Didn't realise how many players we've lost this summer:

However, manager Mark McGhee is looking to further bolster his squad after several players departed Pittodrie.

Captain Mark Kerr will look to feature in Asteras Tripolis' midfield in Greek's top flight, wing-back Charlie Mulgrew joined Celtic, defender Davide Grassi opted for a return to Italy to join Sorrento Calcio, while striker Steven MacLean went back to Plymouth Argyle at the end of his loan.

Goalkeeper Stuart Nelson joined Notts County and another fringe player, winger Paul Marshall, joined Walsall.

Meanwhile, midfielders Gary McDonald and Stuart Duff are looking for new clubs.

bring on the pre-season friendlies, not long to go till ours.... away at the might St Ives Town... tis tough at the bottom. Still most of the squad is in place, just one more striker and we'll be ready to go.

I love this time of year - so full of hope and optimism for the forthcoming season ahead. that'll be all shattered when Wrexham stuff us opening game of the season! Actually more confident regarding Cambridge's chances next season than I have been for a long long time have to admit.

It's a sad day when the only player your club can afford to sign to replace your main centre forward is an unemployed teenager who was a goalkeeper until recently.

On the plus side, he can double up as reserve keeper. A masterclass signing really. 2 for the price of 1... for nothing!

Dons rule!

Still need a couple of old heads in the squad though.

We've just signed 2 young players on 1 year deals

Caley Thistle bring in young guns - Press & Journal

The Isreali guy had a stormer whilst on trial with Rangers last summer banging in a hatrick from midfield against Blackburn in a friendly, but they couldn't agree terms. Could be a bit of a steal, if he follows the same trend as Johnny Hayes and Lee Cox.

Nae a scooby about Max Johnson... I was sure that was a pornstar name!? He's got a nice wee website though - Max Johnson Goalkeeper - Currently at Newcastle United FC

Looking forward to our pre-season friendlies v. Huntly, Real Valloloid (sp?) and Royal Antwerp, in addition to the League Cup game v. Queens Park. Unfortunately I'll miss our annual game v. Elgin City due to holiday commitments.

In International news, I got my ticket for Sweden v. Scotland friendly in August. Looking forward to that one!

Circumstances are forcing our hand this season, but people are overdoing it with all the pessimism. So we've lost Mulgrew, G-Mac (probs), Kerr, Duff and Grassi? big fucken deal. They were useless last season. We still have some extremely promising younguns. Despite a poor season, Aluko is still a class act. Pawlett and Fyvie look the real deal. McArdle and Magennis are young, hungry internationalists.

Don't get me wrong, this is a far from complete squaaaaaad. We need some experience in there, but if experience amounts to those wasters who stole a wage from us last season then fuck em. Stick the younguns in.

Some people are talking about relegation. Nae chunce of that happening.

I agree, assuming the first team stays fit and we get 2 experienced signings in as well as the youngsters. If that doesn't happen it could be another long season.

The spine of the team just isn't there, though. Aberdeen don't even have two good SPL centre-backs. Considine is error prone and makes poor decisions, despite being strong in the air, and Diamond is just an over-zealous idiot at the best of times, in my opinion. He always reacts before he thinks, which usually results in a free-kick conceded and a yellow card.

Aberdeen are going to struggle big-style this season - they don't even have a central midfield to actually field; just one sixteen year old boy.

Aluko does well for around thirteen minutes out of every ninety, but really, who is actually going to score goals for Aberdeen this season? I know they have had that problem for years, but at the beginning of each previous season there was still one or two players who had at least scored goals in the past. Aside from Mackie, is there a single player in the squad that has ever scored more than ten goals in a season before?

I totally agree with your attitude towards those who have left, though. The vast majority were over-paid under-performers, but they at least gave Aberdeen some sort of squad to select from. Not many new players will come in, and Aberdeen is a club that has always been prone to injuries due to their below-par pitch, training facilities, and coaching methods. Things are going to get very desperate this coming season.

I think we're in for a real tough season, I hope we manage to stick some points on the board early doors because if we get back into the sort of form we were on at the tail end of last season, we're in deep shit. It was our results in the first half of the season that kept us up last year.

Have some faith, bawhums. No team in the league, not even the OF, have a prolific scorer. I would love to get MacLean back, and it's still a possibility, but one way or anotehr we will bring in an experienced head or two.

My point is that the experienced players we had last season were fucken garbage; give me the kids who want it ahead of thon shower of shite any day.

Phil: Zander and Considine are a decent pairing. Actually, Cons and Ifil were very good until Cons got injured. Zander and Ifil were a shambles, though. Clangers is as good a keeper as we could realistically hope for, I love Foster, and fingers crossed Bebo and Paton can push for a regular place. OK, it's a work in progress, but it's not hopeless. We actually have some money, unlike most of our peers.

I'm going to hold judgement on the Dons for now as the team aren't in place yet. We'll all be in a more informed position when we see what the squad and starting 11 is going to be like at the start of the seaason. Ideally we'd have the majority of players signed for pre-season but if we can remain patient and bring in some quality signings before the opening games then it will have been worth it. There is a strong nucleus of youngsters in Fyvie, Pawlett, Aluko, Paton, McGuire et al so if McGhee can get them playing to their potential along with any further new signings I don't think it will be doom and gloom. My concern is (as I'm sure it is everyone's concern) the transfer market doesn't go in our favour and we are left scraping the barrel to try and sign cover rather than players who are improving the squad.

No matter how bad we are though, I'm sure Killie will do us a favour in the relegation stakes.

I really like Considine. Unlike Diamond, he's actually learned from his mistakes and looks to have virtually eradicated the errors and poor decisions from his game. I struggle to think of a goal last season that he was badly at fault for.

I actually disagree about him being strong in the air though. I think he should win a lot more headers than he does, considering his size, and I don't think he's ever going to be a dominant, ball-winning centre-back. What he has learned to be, though, is something that's much harder to find in Scottish football - a defender who uses his brain. He has the intelligence to hang back and make an over-aggressive idiot like Diamond look good, like he did for Ifil in the first half of last season.

He'll probably finish Aberdeen's top scorer next season. All with headed goals from set-pieces.

3 goals would just about do it going by the past few seasons ;)

Sort of my point.

I wager he'll get around five or six goals this season, mainly with his bonce.

I'm pretty sure Blumstien scored a hat-trick against Portadown for Rangers in a trial game, certainly not Blackburn.
