It can't have helped that all of Aberdeens retail seems to be centred at the other end of union street and this must have had a knock on effect over the years, but a sad loss if indeed it does close. could be difficult to sell the business as a going concern if it isn't making a big enough profit. I do, I've bought every guitar I've ever owned locally either at R&B or Bruce Millers plus various accessories and countless packs of strings over the years.But having said that Strings Direct offer a great service and I also use them a lot for bulk buying strings and picks. Was wanting to try out peavey amps recently and went to RnB and BM and neither of them had what i was looking for.If they did have something and i was happy with it, I would prefer to have tried it and buy it there. Maybe something to be said for reduced rental/rates for local businesses a la BMs? But then, why would they when The likes of Hugo Boss and G Star Raw can and probably would pay double whatever it is just now. It'll be interesting to see if the independent other retail outlet(s) last up that end. Signature is the only one i can think of, but no doubt it will go soon.I don't think it's the landlord's obligation to reduce rents and the council have to adhere to a fairly strict set of rules when it comes to rates. The small business bonus scheme helps those further down the food chain but unfortunately its the middle guys like BMs which are left stranded. I do not want Aberdeen to lose all of it's independant retailers. It seems like Union Street is becoming vacant and every shop is moving to one of the many faceless shopping centres we now have. How much cheaper are electrical products in the likes of Tesco? Yes, for the most part they will be much shitter, but people buy what they can afford. And one major part of it is perception. People think that everything is cheaper in supermarkets so they just go there. Plus the convenience of being able to buy everything you could possibly need under one roof is obviously killing off local, independent stores as well.Tesco will own Walmart soon. The buyers are likely to keep it open because it has a good reputation and history. It a good retail opportunity. It the buisness that is being sold not the retail unit. It might stay open. Probably as mentioned the use of online shopping to buy gear cheaper most have a knock on effect. Saying that, I have felt differently of BM since I saw them sell a 2nd hand guitar as new. Aye okay it was in mint condition, but it was still 2nd hand and this was not mentioned. I'm not sure of the legal side of that but it still bugged me.Good guys in there though and have passed many an hour looking round and chatting. Bought quite a few things from there over the years as well.It will be interesting to see if R&B up their prices even more if BM (the shop) do shutdown.
