Why thank you.

I must confess I am somewhat proud of that reply. Hopefully it's a mental image repulsive enough to repeat on Paranoid Andriod tomorow at the least apprepriate moment.

xx

I reek of desperation, but damn it all I want a star.

Rep requests make me want to negative rep you now. ;)

An excellent hypothesis as to why humans haven't invented anything better than rockets for getting into space, and, almost as a byproduct, an insight into why we as a culture seem to keep doing things that we know will fuck us up; concepts of path dependency, aka things can develop from really strange origins, and lock-in, aka why we're stuck doing particular things.

Space stasis: What the strange persistence of rockets can teach us about innovation. - By Neal Stephenson - Slate Magazine#

NS has been one of my favourite authors for years now, intelligent, questing and humane.

Is this link SFW?

A good tip I use is to right click the link, and press copy link in a new tab. If the web address is something you wouldn't want your mum seeing in your history, I leave it alone. If it's something like flowerpetals.com and it turns out to be hardcore porn, you can plead ignorance.

You could just look in the bottom left of your browser window. Every browser i've ever used has the URL of a link in the status bar when you hover over it (although a quick google says this may not be the case in the newest version of firefox)

You can turn it on, if you have add-ons that use the bar at the bottom.
