Guest
Who's your favourite comedian(s)?Good live performances, reccomendations?Anyone get on yer tits?I'd have to say, right now I'm well into Frankie Boyles stuff. He got ripped into my mate at the music hall last year, was pretty hilarious. But to stick on a Mock the Week theme, I really do fucking hate Russel Howards comedy. Lots of my mates love him, but I have not once found any of his "Ill juxtapose a random noun with a random verb to make an entirely unsuitable adjective" comedy appealing whatsoever.Case in hand- I screamed like a badger with its nuts caught in a bicycle.Paramount 2's late night comedy is pretty good sometimes as well. Lemonade
Russell Howard pisses me off as well. My favourites are Jack Dee and Lucy Porter. Lucy Porter is funny as fuck. Some quotes:"If we can all learn one thing from Mother Theresa it's that you have to moisturise. I mean she was wonderful but she did have skin like a scrotum.""They always parody films to get titles for porn movies, I thought it would be nice to do some British telly programs as well, like Thongs Of Praise, Ready Steady Cock, or Bargain Cunt.""I'm a single woman in my 30s so most of my friends are gay men and cats. It seems they are both are attracted by the stench of gin and regret.""I think it must be really hard to meet someone if you've got a pronounced sexual fetish. I mean dating is hard enough anyway isn't it, without having the added thing of going out on a first date and sitting there going "Yeah the steaks lovely, the wine's great, now will you shit in a bag and hit me round the face with it?" ""Hen nights are so predictable aren't they. You watch them and they go 'happy, happy, happy, happy - crying on the stairs'. On every hen night by the end there's just one girl weeping in a pair of bunny ears, smelling faintly jizzum. It is normally me, to be fair.""Bless, little boy in the front, you're not going to shout "get your tits out" in a million years are you? You're a lovely little middle class thing, you'd pop a little please on the end cos you're nice. Bless him, he's looking at me like he wants me to make him my bitch. He's too young for me anyway, I mean I'm 31 and I look at him and I don't know whether I want to fuck him or feed him. I want to rip his clothes off, but only to wash them and iron them, then I'm quite happy.""I heard Geri Halliwell got a job as a judge on Popstars. That's a bit rich, isn't it. Geri Halliwell telling you you can't sing, that's like MIchael Jackson telling you you're a bit odd.""Playing poker online is like being mugged without the company. ""I like a drink myself. I like nothing more than those days when you wake up and you're sweating pure beer, and then tramps come up and start licking you. I actually really like that cos they've got little rough tongues like cats.""I've spent so much money trying quit smoking, with patches, gum, hypnosis, acupuncture, that I'm beginning to wonder if it might be more cost effective to just keep carry on smoking, and with the money I save buy a small Mexican child so I have a heart and lungs ready to go when the time comes.""My flat got burgled recently. When the police came round they said "You know Miss Porter, the one thing that annoys us about a crime like this is that some local crack dealer is going to benefit from the proceeds". I didn't think that wasn't very comforting, plus, how did they know how i was going to spend my insurance money?"
Lemonade
I'm actually really impressed by Russell Brand as well, he comes across as a bit of a twat on TV but his stand up stuff is hilarious.
Dayeth
My new favourite is Stewart Lee. Brilliant.
MikeyEB
Rich Hall in his Otis Lee Crenshaw guise is very funny. I got a DVD of one of his shows a few years back and it's brilliant. I also enjoy older Eddie Izzard stuff , it's starting to seem a bit forced these days though. Oh and another vote for Stewart Lee, that man is a genius. Guest
Lucy Porter is funny as fuck. She is.And I've always found her oddly attractive, in a cutesy kind of way. Also, WE ARE SCIENTISTS.Not strictly comedians, but their sense of humour is miles better than their music, and I don't mind their music one bit.I'd check their website. Some of the blogs and parts of the advice page have actually reduced me to tears of laughter.

Ross.
Also, WE ARE SCIENTISTS. Agreed- two very witty guys. The website is great.Maybe it's because I'm not an ageing housewife with a penchant for shit entertainment, but I don't like Alan Carr. Saying that I haven't seen any stand-up from him- I can only presume it's the comedy equivalent to receiving a 90 minute toothy blowjob. Lemonade
I like Reginald D Hunter, he's really funny, though a lot of his material is basically jokes about being black, which I find a little tiresome.black comedian - make loads of jokes about being blackfemale comedian - make loads of jokes about being femalejewish comedian - make loads of jokes about being Jewishold comedian - make loads of jokes about being oldJoan Rivers is guilty of 3 of those. Though I still like her.
Chris
The biggest category of joke I get fed up with has to be sex. At the Aberdeen heat of the Scottish Comedian of the Year competition a couple of weeks ago most of the sets consisted of sex jokes, told badly. It was no coincidence that the best sets were the ones that veered away from that (or at least in the case of the American girl who finished in the top 3, told sex jokes very well).Best laugh I've had recently was a tall Canadian guy on Mock The Week, he was fucking brilliant. Didn't catch his name though.

Only thing that annoyed me was that he seemed to shoehorn his own material into questions.

JJ 10 Easy Wishes
having spent almost a week in edinburgh seeing fucking heaps of comedians this year, I can tell you that Andrew Maxwell is a superb stand up

Teabags
I can see why people might not get Mitch Hedberg, but if you do he is ridiculously funny.I seriously think that if you don't read too much into him, thats all that is required to get it. Its simply good jokes.Plus, try and tell someone a Mitch Hedberg joke without unpurposely sounding a bit like the way he tells it. I know I can't do it. andrew. I also watched an old Eddie Izzard dvd recently, which was hilarious
Christy
Bill Hicks. The only one you need.Yes, I know he's dead. If you want a current stand-up, try Limmy. Or Ricky Gervais, whose over-exposure shouldn't mask the fact that he's a brilliant comic.Love from Christy
Swingin' Ryan
Or Ricky Gervais, whose over-exposure shouldn't mask the fact that he's a brilliant comic.Bingo. His stand-up is great but I genuinely think the funniest he's ever been is when he used to present a radio show on XFM with Steve Merchant and Karl Pilkington around 2001 to 2003. He's got the mark of a great comedian in that he's funniest when he's just in a room chatting to his friends (You can download them all off Pilkipedia.co.uk).At the moment I also like Kristen Schall, Robin Ince, Josie Long and Frankie Boyle and although he's not a stand-up I do believe Charlie Brooker to be possibly one of the funniest men in telly at the moment.
