  1. On the newer material (my knowledge on the earlier stuff is a bit suspect) there's a lot more of an even spread on the vocal duties. I would never suggest they were anything more than half-decent in the 90s, with some admittedly god awful songs. What I would say is that I've always thought they were a bit better than a lot of similar acts, especially these days. Having been pretty much indifferent to most bands of this ilk back in the day, I'm in a position where nostalgia won't threaten to cloud my judgement on this one. I see your point though, and The Spice Girls' comeback was a good example. I saw people I knew who didn't care for them at the time suddenly falling over themselves to spend 80 on a gig ticket. Very bizarre. EDIT: Did not expect there to be any more replies while I wrote this. This post is about Take That, obviously.
  2. You are correct madame. Tavares did the original. Take That had some duff tracks then and they still do now, but I definitely think they're a cut above most of their contemporaries. I actually saw them in 2007 with my then-girlfriend, and they were outstanding. Pure entertainment.
  3. ...and my evening is complete. I've been promising one of the boys from Heller State I'd come to see them for ages, so this is all coming together quite nicely for me! Nice one folks!
  4. Can't believe it's taken me this long to spot this. I'm definitely there!
  5. I still haven't picked up Dig Out Your Soul. I thought The Shock of the Lightning was nae bad, but thought I'm Outta Time was really flat/uninspiring. As far as Take That goes, you've pretty much summed up my opinion on the matter!
  6. Yes yes YES. I will be at this, and I will bring friends. This literally sounds like my favourite thing ever.
  7. Love Won't Wait was poor, but come on, Open Road was a tune.
  8. I saw the Goos three times that year. Extremely well-drilled live act that are really cracking at what they do. In terms of disappointing live acts, The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster supporting both Placebo and SOAD over the last couple of years. It was only during the latter show that I had a moment of clarity and realised that they're actually just a terrible band.
  9. Jesus, that's some angry stuff for an MSN article. A lot of it is dead on though, especially the Scouting For Girls/Verve comments. That Beyonce tune is rank as well.
  10. The Xcerts? On a date that I can actually manage? What next? I'm definitely there. Fantastic stuff!
  11. I'll be there. Ross, as ever, drop me a line if I can help out with this in any way.
  12. I thought that this lot were the Orange Unsigned people. Now I'm torn between this and the Exposure gig that's on that night...
  13. Had to be a Saturday I'm stuck at home, didn't it! Damn and blast. Hope to catch you again soon, all the same.

  15. I always found Union of Knives pretty difficult to get into, owing mainly to going along to a show at Moshulu with my friends that I found to be a bit flat / uninspiring. That said, these tunes aren't bad.
  16. I think my Dad knows someone in Bin Laden's Daughter. I wonder if this will tempt him along for this show...
  17. Holy hell, that's brutal. Didn't know the floor was sticky to the point of hazardous...
  18. I came in to the store not too long ago and he gave me a flyer for it having seen me at Amusement Parks on Fire. Unfortunately I was away for the weekend and couldn't make it, but it sounded awesome.
  19. I thought this was okay, but I thought the bulk of the stuff on that compilation was eclipsed by Coheed and Cambria's version of The Trooper.
  20. It's Sunday mornings you've got to check out
  21. I've been working there for 5 years almost, and I can tell you that the format of the show has not changed in any even halfway significant way in that time. People seem to love it, mind.
  22. Don't diss the Waves Weather Bush, you mental bastard. Beatles Backtrack has been revived, to the collective dismay of the north east. It's sponsored now. So yeah, I'm finding it difficult to spring to the defence of this programme, even though that's my boss you're talking about....
  23. I love a lot of Explosions in the Sky stuff. It's a lot to do with my getting into PG Lost actually, who're a bit heavier, which i like. I'm going to get to checking out the other bands mentioned in this thread.
