  1. Of those options, the word ASCENSION jumps out at me. You know it makes sense mate.
  2. Blackfriars and Ma Cameron's are both good shouts, they're excellent.
  3. Definitely. Trying to cover as many bases as possible without the whole thing degenerating into a big list of bands, venues and promoter. Thanks for the help so far guys. What I'm essentially asking you is how you would like the scene to be perceived by an 'outsider' with little to no knowledge of what's happening up here. I'm not sure how widely circulated the article will be when it's done but still, figured it was a nice chance to get some exposure to some of the many good things going on up here.
  4. Right guys, was wondering if you could help me out with this one. A friend of mine based in Edinburgh has asked me to write an article on the Aberdeen music scene for a magazine she's involved in down south. I can pretty much approach it from any angle I want and length isn't an issue. I've got a few ideas kicking around (kind of in the early planning stages at the moment) but I was wondering what you guys thought would need to be included, be it bands, venues, promoters, etc. etc. Any input appreciated!
  5. This ought to be good. Modern Times was beasting, especially Thunder On The Mountain.
  6. You don't know how right you are, Donald. Consider me a skill-free, tactically inept oaf. Someone told me at the last game of football I played that I "made some good runs". I took this to mean "you're fine until someone passes to you." In short, yes, Headlight FC would be an unqualified failure. ....I'm well up for this, incidentally.
  7. Seasick Steve would be absolutely blinding...
  8. I hope I'll get along to this. Haven't seen Contra since 2004/2005 and love a bit of Heller State.
  9. We're playing Exposure that night. Otherwise, I'd have checked this out. Sorry lads.
  10. I already said in the other thread the extent to which I am all over the Tunnels show. This is set to be brilliant. In other news, I've roped in some power metal-loving mates to come along for the crack. See you there!
  11. You are correct sir. Their album is absolutely brilliant. Also, good to see IRL on the bill, that's going to be a cracking night.
  12. Attention everyone: I cannot stress enough how awesome A Silent Film will be. That is all.
  13. I'm sure there's somewhere I should be on Tuesday. Provided I don't remember where exactly that is, I'll have a walk down to this one.
  14. No danger my good man, was good to see you!
  15. As a great man once said, two out of three ain't bad.
  16. I've been informed that Stephen Podlesney will be opening this show with an acoustic set. More info here. Stanley on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads
  17. Aw shucks. Seemed like such a good idea too. Looking forward to hearing what the next idea is
  18. I try to do this on my programming. To that end, any established/semi-established local bands looking for airplay?
  19. Somehow, I missed this being mentioned first time round. That's a tidy lineup. Mitch Bain on that list, please! Might have to nip to Tunnels for Cheesy Punk after, mind. It shall be a busy evening!
  20. I'm not a lover of the expression "over-rated". Always ends in circular debate. You can't, however, argue with Metallica's influence. That said, aside from St. Anger, the only other thing I hold against them is being at least partly responsible for Trivium and Black Tide. I love the vast majority of Metallica's stuff, and have got quite a bit of time for the Load/ReLoad era material, particularly 'Fixxer', 'Hero of the Day' and 'Ain't My Bitch'. Aye, you could probably have distilled it down to a really solid single album, but in terms of experimenting, I thought it panned out pretty well. The less said about St. Anger, the better. Pretty much everyone accepts it as being a big fat black hole. I've re-listened countless times and it just doesn't click for me. I class Death Magnetic as a bit of a return to form, but it's exactly what I expected from it. The songs themselves could have been released in '85. It's not exactly their boldest work, but it's their most consistent in the better part of twenty years. As an aside, I always find it difficult to tie down a meaning for the word 'relevant' in this context. Relevant to what? Regardless of your opinion of them, can you ever describe a band this successful as 'irrelevant'?
  21. Have to see if the other guys are up for giving this a bash...
