  1. I just picked up the new Springsteen record. First impression is that it's not bad, but not as good as 'Magic'. More info on the way... Also, can anyone tip me off on a good Neil Young record to pick up?
  2. I've seen said posters. I'm bursting with glee at the prospect of hearing some of these tunes. I Won't Spend Another Night Alone has been on my iPod in constant rotation since I booked my tickets, haha!
  3. I concur. I bought the White Lies record on Tuesday. Pretty derivative stuff but still pretty enjoyable. Some great songs on there, with From the Stars being my favourite just now.
  4. I'm definitely at this. That'll be the night of the second Cheesy Punk night I belieeeeeve, so I'll make a night of it.
  5. Words cannot describe my hatred for approx 90% of their tunes, but I have to grudgingly admit that Chelsea Smile is a beast of a tune.
  6. You talking about the Matter of Life and Death Tour? The one where Trivium were guests? I thought that was a bit ropey right enough. Some of the tunes on that record were gash / 3minutes over-long/both. A couple of years earlier on the Dance of Death tour I thought the set was near enough perfect, considering I thought DoD was a pretty brilliant album.
  7. This match was absolutely astounding to watch. Not in a high-class football way, just entertaining. What I found interesting was that for the first 25 minutes of the second half, Aberdeen's approach was way off (for me, at least). Sitting back and throwing 9 players behind the ball is a really good way to concede a goal. Then when Celtic scored, it kicked them into gear again. All the same, will be interesting to see if the same happens again next week.
  8. I am 100% guilt-free in my loving of Fall Out Boy, Coldplay (generally the new record, but some of the older stuff is decent as well), Slipknot, Dragonforce, Panic at the Disco etc. etc. etc. I realised only a short while ago that expressions like "good pop music" are just euphemisms for "it's not particularly cool, but I like it". I don't understand why anyone feels the need to justify liking anything. As for my parents' music taste, my mum loves the Beatles, Amen Corner, The Small Faces, Queen etc. while my dad is well into Pink Floyd, Neil Young, The Blue Nile, The Who and Jackson Browne. They both tend to come through to Aberdeen/Glasgow with me for gigs sometimes though. Me and my mum went to Edinburgh to see Duke Special a couple of years back, while my Dad came down to Tool, Iron Maiden, Muse and some others. They introduced me to a lot of excellent music, and are also open-minded enough to listen to stuff I bring home, which is great.
  9. My general rule when I was at university was not to do anything after 11pm at night or before 7.30am in the morning, because I wasn't taking anything in. These things are, of course, highly subjective. Some people work better at night i suppose. It's easy for people to say, with the benefit of hindsight, things like "don't get too worked up", but as far as I'm concerned, if you're going to get worked up, it's going to happen anyway. My twin sister did the same degree as me, and she always got to the point of hysterical the night before exams. She got a first class degree. I realised about halfway through second year that there was no telling her to calm down, because she couldn't help it. Good luck to everybody, all the same.
  10. Nice one! That's definitely one of the better ones! Apart from Mark Ronson, the best proper celebrities I've met are golfers probably, at Carnoustie. Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia and Davis Love spring to mind. Met Ally McCoist aged six as well. I was six. Not McCoist.
  11. I stood and watched an entire Paolo Nutini set with the boy from North Tonight with the grey hair that does the entertainment stuff. His name escapes me, so I should probably only get a half point on that one. I've met Goldie Lookin' Chain as well. Mystikal was having a smoke at the bus stop outside the Lemon Tree when they played there in October 2004. Nice chaps. I spotted Pedro Mendes in the Buchanan Galleries the last time we were in Glasgow. On a vaguely more fashionable note, I met Mark Ronson last year.
  12. I find it difficult to disagree with this. However, I agree about the latest batch of Kanye West stuff, or at least, what I've heard of it. I quite liked some of his stuff around Late Registration / Graduation type time, but Love Lockdown and Heartless are both really terrible. And also, yeah, James Blunt seemed quite willing to laugh at himself on Top Gear. Good job, I suppose, or he'd have had a rough few years!
  13. Good find Angus, this is cracking news. Congratulations to them all!
  14. I concur, I thought both bands were pretty awesome, and FCM were both bored and boring. The King Blues' newest record is an absolute peach like. "What if Punk Never Happened" is one of the best tunes I've heard in ages.
  15. Fucked Up - The Chemistry of Common Life Picked it up in a sale, struggling to see what the fuss is about. It isn't bad, but not amazing, on first impression at least.
  16. Any idea of stage times for this? I may stop by to catch Heller State but only if time's on my side. Obviously I'll stay for as long as possible like...
  17. Seeing 28 Days and A as the first two names on the list got me well excited. I think if I heard "Rip it up" or "I Love Lake Tahoe" in the Tunnels my heart would literally explode with joy.
  18. If Plant's not on board, this is clearly the correct outcome.
  19. You're right you know, not least because I loves me some metal. Seriously though, I'm frankly disappointed in myself for letting this slip under the radar! Well up for this one.
  20. I HATE this. Considering there are only about 5 full time members of staff at my work, you wouldn't believe how gossipy the place is.
  21. I quite like The Hold Steady, but Stay Positive is a definite let-down, at least on the first few listens (haven't had the stamina to go back and check it out again). Boys and Girls in America is an outstanding album though.
  22. I'm the bad boy that you invite for dinner, ain't got no manners 'cause I eat with my fingers...
