ca_gere
As the title suggests...Last gig I went to was Bombay Bicycle Club at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Was roundly underwhelmed by them to be honest. Solid enough and they definitely had a couple of absolutely beautiful tracks (lights out, words gone is awesome) but overall pretty boring and the fact they had a completely superfluous band member in that girl bugged me. She only came on for a couple of songs and you could hardly hear her.Support was excellent though: http://guards.bandcamp.com/album/guards-ep and http://www.myspace.com/1comma2comma3 . Two bands with terrible names but very enjoyable music.Going to see Gardens & Villa next week. Like the album a lot so looking forward to it. Captain America
I haven't been to anything since Jimmy Eat World last month I don't think.JeW were good though, some poptastic classics and some new bumph I wasn't to fussed about. There was also a middle aged knob in front of me still wearing his work shirt and recording pretty much the whole thing on his blackberry. Tragic twat.Support was nothing to write home about, so much so I don't remember their name.
ca_gere
This is ruining gigs. I make a point of not taking out my phone at a venue, unless I can get a really good photo. Most of the time it's far too dark anyway.

It was pretty good, lots of drink fueled adolecents in attendance creating a good atmosphere.September's been pretty quiet but October / November are going to be pretty mental.*Edit to say, got Bon Iver coming up in October, really looking forward to that one. One of my bucket list bands to see live. YASS!
Jaaakkkeee
Last gig was a Charity Showcase a couple of weeks back that included DUKE, Avoid The Morning, Transmissions, Re-Wired and Ross Gordon.Next one will be the gig in Cellar 35 this saturday if 70 folk aren't ahead of me in the queue. Alphas
Last gig for me was Arcade Fire at Edinburgh Castle. Brilliant setting for a gig and a really good live band so enjoyed this one a lot. Bit of an odd crowd mind you as it took a while for people to get into it and was a bit flat to begin with. The fact there was no bars probably didn't help.I was at JeW at the Corn Exchange as well, first time I saw them and was well impressed. Monster Zero
PJ Harvey at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. It was fucking amazing. Seated, crowd were completely respectful and quiet during the music. Mick Harvey was in the band. PJ was awesome as usual. Sound was crystal clear.Contrast with one before that, Interpol at the Music Hall. Full of typical Aberdeen crowd, i.e. folk acting like they haven't been let loose in years and who seem more interested in getting as much drink down their neck as possible and catching up with their fud mates. Pish sound. Quite enjoyed Interpol though, good set list. Support were dire.Have hardly been going to gigs lately, have really lost interest in school nights spent checking out bands I haven't heard of, used to spend a lot of time doing that but nothing really interests me enough now. Paranoid Android
Haven't been to a gig since Sonar. I saw Cut Copy there who were absolutely awesome.Loads of great bands come here for Primavera and Sonar but outside of these bands don't seem to stop off here on their tours that often. Duckula
Pulp a few weeks back in London. A little too much off We Love Life to be honest but I'm not complaining.Had to leave during Misshapes in the encore to get the sleeper train back to Aberdeen though. framheim
Last gig was Robert Curgenven and Bill Thompson at the Woodend Barn, part of Bill's Burning Harpsichord series. It was pretty interesting, lots of nice textures and tones being created.

Guest Gladstone
Bombay Bicycle Club at Barrowlands last night - fucking superb.Support bands were both ace too - Dog is Dead and Dry the River (Dry the River especially - fucking LOUD!).Met an extremely wasted Matthew Horne as well - no idea what he was doing in Barrowlands...First time at Barrowlands - not what I was expecting at all from the outside - it looks like Codonas in the 80s. Cool venue though - ace sound.
FatHand
Last gig I was at: that final for that £2k competition in Drummonds on Friday.I don't agree with introducing competition and rivalry into music, especially at this level. It ends up causing friction and disappointing people.Anyway, other than that it was a cracking local line up. Although I didn't catch the first two bands, from Amy Sawyers onwards was great. That was my first time seeing Stanley and thought they were superb.
ca_gere
Just got back from Mos Def playing with the Brooklyn Philharmonic orchestra. Talib Kweli was due on after but I had to leave early. It was pretty amazing. It was in a bit of a rough area so there weren't many posey hipsters and it was free too. He's such a charismatic chap and his delivery is still just perfect, it went so well with orchestral instruments. Absolutely buzzin after that and I didn't even stay for the whole thing. Pierre Von Mondragon
Saw Ubre Blanca with Teeth, at the Captain's Rest, fucking ace, UB got that-tearing-out-live-electronics-like-an-ace-band vibe, Someone up here should look into booking them, particularly as they are the Shitdisco spin-off with the songwriting and energy that had made SD ace. UB are a much, much more honed, hooky, techy but dirty experience...Ubre Blanca-Feral Kid
