Mmmmmm Om Nom Nom Nom

Many animals are here for the soul purpose of eating them. If it wasn't for carnivores, they'd probably all be dead.

Well, we bred them for the purpose of eating them.

I stopped being vegetarian because of these two facts:

a) the dairy industry requires the constant birth of milk calves, which are either put down or shipped off to become veal.

b) vegans are dicks.

This is one of those posts I wish I could give rep for, but I can't. Apart from the bit about mint, I hate mint. Especially with lamb. I just want to taste the fucking lamb.

Give me some lamb cooked slowly for hours in red wine so it just melts apart when you bite it, amazing.

I'm not too into mint myself either, but it seems to work with Lamb, though not too strong and very very subtle. Had it in a restaurant once, and it was like eating a packet of polos. Bleh!

I've just not had lamb as often as I should, but when I have done, it's been glorious. Such a flavoursome meat. It makes beef tastes like cardboard. That's not saying I don't like beef. It's just saying how great Lamb is!!

Ignoring the attention seeking vegan for a moment and getting back on topic, I've just read a recipe that makes me wish I hadn't had spaghetti and meatballs earlier this week:

Dinner Tonight: Spaghetti with Garlic, Anchovies, and Chili | Serious Eats : Recipes

Really want to grab some anchovies and try that out now but I've filled my pasta quota with the mammoth spaghetti portion I had on Monday night. Might do it over the weekend.

Then i remember i have morals, and eating animals is wrong.

I heard that animals love being eaten. Why deny them such simple, delicious joy?

I have an urge to cnstruct a big ol' sandwich today. Chorizo, Jarlsberg, salsa, mayo and rocket possibly... must buy nice bread.

Speaking of lamb, I had a lamb and olive tajine in a magreb restaurant the other night. I swear it must have been cooking for at least a week on about 30 degrees because it was so tender. Because of the infused olive flavour, it was like putting a meaty bit of olivio in your mouth and letting it melt. simply divine I tells ye.

Also had a barbecue and freestyled a bbq sauce/marinade recipe. I had seen the addition of coca cola somewhere so i thought I'd try it. Put in coke, ketchup, vinegar, cayenne pepper, tobasco, garlic, tomato paste and onions. All in a bag with the meat, sloosh it about and let it marinate. If you heat up the sauce when cooking the meat and let it reduce it becomes lovely and sticky

I saw this video earlier in the year and have now found the perfect place to post a link to it. While I'm not in favour of replacing people with machines - these do look mighty fine pizzas

BBC NEWS | Europe | Italians ponder pizza vending machine

Well, it looks better than I thought it would. But the fresh ones being made by hand in the video still looked better.

Has anyone tried the pizzas from the machine oustide Heavenly in Mannofield? Imagine they're fairly shit as the machine isn't as sophisticated as the one in that link

Absolutely agree with you there Chris. I was, however, thinking more of the vending machine as an "out of pizza shoppe hours/range" kind of thing, ie train/bus station, post-pub snack-attack kind of thing.

Never heard of the machine at Mannofield so would be interested to hear anyone's view on it too. .

Then i remember i have morals, and eating animals is wrong.

I have no problem with anyone chosing to be vegetarian for whatever reasons, but I'm afraid that's utter bollocks. All you have to do is look at human teeth to know that we are meant to eat meat.

Torturing animals is morally wrong. Keeping animals in shit conditions is cruel. But eating animals couldn't be any more natural.

And I bet you own a leather belt or shoes.

It's not really the weather for it, but I would thoroughly recommend this homemade recipe for Sweet Potato, Chilli and Lime soup. Seriously worth trying:

1 large Sweet potato

1 onion

2 red chillis, de-seeded

Juice of half a fresh lime

1 pint of chicken stock

olive oil

salt/pepper

75ml single cream (optional)

Chop/dice the onion, sweet potato and chilli and fry in 2/3 tablespoons of olive oil for about 10 minutes on a med/high heat.

Add the chicken stock and lime juice, stir, bring to the boil and reduce to a low heat.

Pour it all in a blender. Blend to fuck.

Pour it back in a deep pot or pan and season to taste, and add the cream if you wish.

Stir and heat gently for a couple of minutes.

Sit back and enjoy your masterwork. Also works really well with about 4 large stems of asparagus thrown in for good measure.

Humans are Omnivores -- The Vegetarian Resource Group

Sums it up. Humans are omnivorous by nature, but our advanced civilisation means we can rely to an extent on certain foods and supplements being available meaning we can throw off our opportunistic feeding patterns.

Our advanced civilisation means we can get a woman pregant by watching gay porn, wanking into a pot and using a turkey baster to induce artificial insemination.

Doesn't mean it's the most natural, or indeed enjoyable, way to procreate though... :)

Ha! Very true, but vegan food can be yummy, especially if it's a good beans and rice dish! I just scratch my head as to why anyone would want chocolate mouse made out of tofu or vegan cheese...

I really like vegetarian food to be honest. Pulses and veg is all good in my book.

I make lots of lentil or vegetable soups and chickpea curries etc.

I also often choose a veggie lasagne over the meat version as well.

I just like all food. Except corned beef and tinned sweetcorn.

Recently became hooked on hot dogs.......but not the shit tinned ones.

I mean proper bratwurst things you can buy in bulk from costco, lidl, aldi etc.

So it goes in a fingerbun (of course!) with some fried onions, ketchup and the classy single line of easy squeezy mustard (ate about 6 of them last night).

I know it ain't exactly gourmet, but I'm a 19 year old student and I appreciate the simple things in life!

Besides, you know you're an awful cook when your dog of all things won't eat your pancakes.........

I can't remember what corned beef tastes like and I bought a shitload of it, along with many other tinned things, in case of disaster. Good until 2013 though

I like veggie food too. Especially when the addition of meat seems a bit too much. I was in La Bamba and my workmates were confused as to why I was ordering a veggie burrito. I just explained that beans rice and cheese were enough for me but they didn't seem to get it.

Unfortunately the food there is fucking shit  is there anywhere you can get good Mexican food in the UK???

The margaritas were da bomb, however. Props where props are due.

All the more reason to read this thread and get experimenting with some of the recipes -save you a fortune on pre-made meals if anything...

Tinned sweetcorn.

I can't stand sweetcorn, it's mainly the smell but i can usually eat it if it isn't the main taste involved. The same goes for peas.

I quite like a lot of vegetarian options though but the attempts at replicating meat fall flat on both taste and texture.

I fucking love meat though.
