french_disko
well, ive read all the comments regarding this Aberdeen band and it really got my blood boiling so ive got to get a few things off my chest!First of all, as far as im concerened, if you have NEVER been to see this band, then your opinion means nothing! How the hell can you comment on something you've never got off you're arse to go and see??As for them being in 3 newspapers last week, YES 3 well, how many newspapers has YOUR band (if you're in one) been in? Have i even heard of them? I doubt it very much. And no, i dont agree that they are selling out, its called PUBLICITY! something you need if you intend to get anywhere. All publicity is good publicity, as they say.Everyone is entitled to their opinion on music and if you dont like their sound fair enough, but dont put them down because they're being noticed and you're not. Green is not a nice colour. As for their name, you've bloody well heard of them, havent you? Good or bad, you've heard of them!!!!Im absolutely disgusted that a few of you are making lewd suggestions as to why they have a 15 year old drummer. Ill tell you why, cos he's an amazing drummer but then how would any of you know, if you've not actually seen them! These sinister, disgusting suggestions say more about the way YOU think than the band. They are a great bunch of guys just trying to get somewhere. if you dont like that, well, thats your problem. If you have an opinion on the actual music and you've seen them, fair enough but dont lower yourself to slagging them off for their name, the paper articles, the drummer etcIts just all in bad taste!!!Band member's girlfriend alert!!!Have you suggested to Erotic Fire that they record in "Dobly"? offramp
I nipped into T1 on Friday night after the imp gig in T2, just to check these guys out after all 'the talk' on here. The drummer was good for a fifteen year old, but nothing special. The band were average. The songs were bland. But that's just my opinion. And I'm entitled to it. Apparently.

HeinzHines
If you read their Myspace biography, you will actually know they are "fast gaining a reputation as one of Aberdeen’s best live bands". All this since their debut gig on christmas eve 2007, we should applaud them for their speedy work, gaining such high profile status within the city in such a short scale of time. Also, their Bebo states "this Aberdeen super group will be topping the charts worldwide in the very near future". Hardly to be sniffed at, even topping the charts in one country is pretty difficult.
Lemonade
Actually, are you the drummer's mum?Don't be silly, I'm sure she's not connected to the band in any way and is just a big fan of Erotic Fire because the drummer is FUCKING AMAZING and they are a BRILLIANT BAND. Lemonade
They may have become chart toppers if they were around in 1984, when ripping off Van Halen and Kiss was in fashion.

A bit of research reveals her to be the guitarist's sister. They'll be getting themselves all into a bebo upheaval about this.

JennyD
erotic fireI couldnt care less what a band is called, if i enjoy they're music, thats good enough for me.Surely, thats what its all about? If you dont enjoy it, there's nothing wrong with that. Each to their own.Yes, im defensive about the drummer being so young comments. Who would even question that in the way it has been?? His age has no bearing on his ability or why he's in the band.As for the press, yes, i agree there's not enough coverage of local music but thats not Erotic fire's bloody fault.I shouldnt get so worked up about this, thats true. The "jealousy" comments im not interested in at all. i just think that if anything good can come out of this city, surely we should encourage it? and im not just talking about erotic fire, im talking about all good bands on the go at the moment.isnt there room for everyone? we cant all like everything but why slam people who are trying? Chris
I don't really remember anybody slating Erotic Fire in this thread?...Apart from possibly their name. And as we all know I'm not really in a credible position to slag off any band's name, it's just fun.But no, I wasn't having a go at them per se, just the non-story nature of the article. Band no-one's heard of recruits a drummer. Big whoop.

french_disko
I couldnt care less what a band is called, if i enjoy they're music, thats good enough for me.I hate Chumbawumba for their name, their music and for things that have nothing to do with them. Personally, I think Erotic Fire sounds more like a porn film than an STD. However, that makes no odds to whether I think their music is up to much or not.Yes, im defensive about the drummer being so young comments. Who would even question that in the way it has been?? Jim Stax
a story (mentioned elsewhere on forum ages ago)Some years ago Paz from the Pelican, who at that times was looking after oor band, Greenblade, got an article in both papers stating that we were off to conquer New York within a fortnight and the gig at the weekend, in said club, may be an opportunity to be up close with a band that had been invited to play some big clubs in NYC and moving on up. Not one bit of truth in the story and not one journalist checked up. The Pelican was sold out that weekend... Got to hand to his brass neck and lazy journalism. Saying that the fibs were so grand they may have assumed that no one would be so bold. They clearly hadn't met Paz before!

Inkster
Wouldn't it be a bit better to get an article in a paper once a band has done a few gigs and got a decent fan base rather than saying they played to a sold out Tunnels on a night when people were out on the piss rather than actually going to see the band? The article then may hold a bit more credibility.Fair play for getting the band mentioned in 3 papers but after one gig seems a bit premature to me.note to self: keep the nyc story in mind for future reference... Sazzle-R
If you don't believe - you won't achieveHey guysJust thought I'd leave a few comments on the interesting topics you've been discussingFirstly - yes - I'm Erotic Fire's promoter!! (no bebo or mypsace snooping required haha!) Loving the debate you're all having on the local press's lack of support for the local music scene, but if you don't try you don't get as they say! That is a promoter's job afterall, and I wouldn't be promoting them if I didn't think they had a certain something, I don't expect you all to agree but hey that's life!At the end of the day this is the whole point of the discussion forum, to get everyone talking about their views on Aberdeen's Music - we respect everyone's opinions of the band and the music, apart from the comment about their music being bland..... I don't think so, but again it's maybe just not your thing, so fair doos, but you can't argue that the people in there on Friday were obviously enjoying it?!! We hope you realise that some of our comments are (we thought obviously) tongue-in-cheekAlso, it wasn't their first gig, it was just the first gig with the new drummer (just to clear that up!)Thanks for the comments on the music making it in the 80s, the guys wouldve been chuffed to!! They do have influences by Van Halen, Kiss, Bon Jovi to mention a few but their style is their own is that not what inspires most musicians? They just love the music and their style - thats not going to change! So, anyways, thanks for all your commentsOh by the way, listen out for Saturday Night playing on Original fms Sunday Showcase this week - just doing my job haha!!!! Spoonie
it's not necessarily relevant to the topic (not that I should let that stop me on here ) but I've been wrecking myself over the last year or so to get more media attention for the American Football Team I play for. I became the Chairman a month and a half ago and since then it's become almost a full time job, every single evening and all of my lunchtimes being spent harassing all media outlets nationally and specifically in the west of scotland so I know how hard it can be to get anything at all. What I'm getting at is that you absolutely need some little gimmick, no matter how shabby it may seem to others, to get in the door with any paper/tv station/radio station. we finally broke the deadlock with a link between the superbowl, the fact that the giants kicker was born in Greenock and the fact that two of our players have been selected for the NFL international players program.that last fact in itself is a pretty big deal (there are only 60 players outside of the US on this program and we have two in one team!) but people did not give a fuck. we're the only premier division team in scotland but that means nothing either because it's a minority sport. you have to scrabble around to get an angle and push it as hard as you can once you get in, but it's worth it. 15 months of harassing the scotland on sunday got us the best part of half a page last weekend with this: Gridiron duo set sights on Super Bowl - Scotland on Sunday from which we got contacted by the BBC to run a piece on the guys on reporting Scotland over the next couple of weeks. Anyway, to cut a long story long, regardless of the fact that they may be, in some peoples eyes, a mediocre band with a shabby name and a gimmick about having a young drummer, they have now appeared three times in the local press in a week which means that their name is out there and people who hear it again will be familiar with it. fair play to them if that's what they're after not everyone is interested because most bands are too cool, but they are and they're getting on with it. but that doesn't mean you can't rip them for the name! i was in bands called FeSTR, Adults Only, Silkstone and Quixote and even I think that's pish!
