  1. I need to learn to read music I think for sure. As for learning by ear - depends what I'm learning. Some stuff (Metallica, Slayer etc.) is fine enough. Tried that Cryptopsy song (...And Then It Passes)... could NEVER learn that by ear! o_O
  2. Yeah, I don't expect them to feature of course! Corpse are playing Glasgow in April though, so gonna make sure and get to that one! 8)
  3. I will be tempted if I see more than one of the following - SYL Machine Head Slayer Dying Fetus Cannibal Corpse Despite the fact I'm seeing Corpse in April and have seen Machine Head beofre and Slayer twice now...
  4. What annoys me (I don't know why though o_O ) is when the invigilators stare at my work, not being sly while doing so. I fell asleep in Advanced Maths prelim today Granted, I had done all I could and basically put my head in my hands with shame - it just so happened that it didn't come away from my hands til half an hour later :|
  5. My ideal festival would consist of:- Metallica Slayer Pantera Strapping Young Lad Machine Head Cannibal Corpse Nile Dying Fetus The Berzerker Cryptopsy Vader Anthrax Chimaira Sepultura (with Max of course!) Kataklysm Arch Enemy Megadeth (Rust In Peace line-up) Kreator Black Label Society Black Sabbath Pissing Razors Pig Destroyer Slipknot The Haunted Stampin' Ground Element 106:up: Weeping Jesus:up: Fundamental Hate (my band) Obviously couldn't happen. But yeah, that would be ace.
  6. Sorry? I wasn't trying to be offensive in any way! ?( I was just simply saying that I have had times where the tuner is saying it's right yet the notes aren't when a chord is played, not saying that you are wrong or bashing your use of English. I wasn't saying anything about spelling/grammar etc. dude! Sorry if you took my post the wrong way. I FOR SURE was NOT taking the piss in any form! :S I know of you being Italian, and yes, I'll never be as good with Italian as you are with English!
  7. EEADF#B is a fun one (Down to B standard with the B dropped to low(er) E).
  8. I use my tuner for finding my low B. After that I tune by ear for the rest, just cos I find it more accurate somehow! o_O Without the tuner though, I don't think I'd find that first low B by just ear
  9. Make sure you get a Boss TU-2 floor tuner man! They are one of the best purchases I've ever made in the everness of ever!
  10. Something Old - Metallica - ...And Justice For All : It is still my favourite album. Great riffs and structures, love the lead playing - most influential album for me. Crap guitar sound though, if it had production like on The Black Album then it would be better rated by all. Recommended track:- Blackened Something New - Not new as such but my most recent purchase:- The Berzerker - Disssimulate : Very aquired taste. Ultra heavy. Either love it or hate it. Most will hate, I love. Simple Recommended track:- No One Wins Something Borrowed - Dying Fetus - Destroy The Opposition : Borrowed it from someone I work with, loved it. So brutal and great riffs. Gonna be fun and challenging to learn any of it though! I did end up buying it when I gave it back though.. Recommended track:- Praise The Lord Something Poo - All the albums I have bought I like. The only poo thing I can think of is the fact that I bought Machine Head - The More Things Change and took it to a party and came home with an empty box. Recommended track:- Ten Ton Hammer Note: I'm not saying the Machine Head album is poo - I'd recommend it to any metal fan -, just simply explaining the crapness of the situation with it!
  11. I know I'm cutting this very fine... What time are doors at? I'm gonna go but don't know what bus to get...
  12. I noticed that a very large percentage of the people at the front left the gig when FOM were gonna be coming on. I stayed for a song or two but - as it wasn't my thing - headed out. Milner is right, maybe some people heard them (before the gig I mean) and didn't like them so thought not to stay if they wouldn't enjoy it. Others probably had buses to catch. Of course there will be people that went specifically to see certain bands and then left before the headliners - Oh well, not the end of the world I suppose!
  13. Right, as it turns out - the music teacher told him today that he can do it next week. This annoyed me as I gave up two lunchbreaks to record it and didn't have to. Anyways, what I did was chose two scales rather than all of those I mentioned above. For the section that went E major, A major, B dominant 7, C# diminished 7 I played an E blues scale. For the part that went B major, C# minor 6, A augmented, E major I played an Altered Pentatonic (B C# E F# G). Seemed to work well. Sorted!
  14. Hey people. Right, my friend has to finish a piece for his invention folio for music... for tomorrow :| He has given me a key and a chord progression and asked if I can improvise a lead over it. The chords I have to play are as follows:- E major, A major, B dominant 7, C# diminished 7 E major, A major, B dominant 7, C# diminished 7 B major, C# minor 6, A augmented, E major E major, A major, B dominant 7, C# diminished 7 This to my knowledge is in the key of E major but with a few 'Jazz' chords thrown in. Thing is, he asks if I can play a few different scales for the lead, these are to include:- Melodic Minor Harmonic Minor Whole Tone Blues Some sort of modes Thing is, I have the musical knowledge of a dead animal and therefore do not know what should go over the top of what, and why?! Any ideas? Thanks, James
  15. Well, I did my Higher estimate today. I played Angel Of Death by Slayer (with backing track from total guitar) and Metallica - Anesthesia (the bass solo from Kill em All). If I didn't get an A, I don't know what possibly can
  16. 1. Music I don't like (pop music for example)... 2. Metallica - To Live Is To Die 3. Machine Head - Imperium (Best party song...ever!)
  17. Somehow when I edited the other thread, the title stayed as 'vocals', so I though I'd post this one so that bassists actually look!.... Hey how's it going people? Basically, my band (Fundamental Hate) are in need of a bassist. We play stuff that has hints of Slayer, Pantera, Sepultura and Cannibal Corpse going on. Ideally, we'd like someone who can play very fast metal very competently and precisely. If you wish, you could contribute plenty to the riff writing side of things too. You'll have to be quite tight though. PM me or reply here if you're interested at all. Cheers, James
  18. I have a total guitar mag from not too long ago with Master of Puppets on it, problem is the other guitar is still partially on there and I let my teacher hear and she said it was a no no.
  19. Hey guys. I'm needing a place to download tracks of songs without the guitar part being played, so I can then play the pieces for my music exams. Any ideas where I can download any? I'm needing stuff like Metallica, Slayer, Pantera etc. Primarily Master Of Puppets though... Cheers, James
  20. My instructor is Dave Watson - owner of Roadwise. He is awesome! Makes everything so easy, doesn't knock your confidence. Teaches everything so well - the way it should all be done. He said I was ready for my test after 16 hours (having never driven before starting lessons, and also - to this day - having never driven outwith the lessons) so he must be doing it right!
  21. I'm gonna hang back to see who the rest of the line-up is comprised of. I wanna see Slayer headlining one of the days! SYL would be awesome to have too, as would Machine Head again! Gonna be running out of cash from gigs though, Berzerker in March and Cannibal Corpse in April. 6th year holiday in June too...
  22. As my musical tastes differ from many, I'll post tracks to those of you who like your music heavy!
