Don't even think you can give a red and a penalty for that, it was running away from him. If he thinks it's a pen that's it. Can't red him as well. The Milner
Its never a pen, but if you give the pen, you have to give the red. Its the rules, as stupid as they can seem.
Adam Easy Wishes
So fucking typical of Scottish refereeing though. It's hugely indicative of the standard we're used to when Pittodrie roundly applauded a routine (correct) decision to award Aberdeen a throw-in vs Real Sociedad. The Milner
Aye but that wasnt a Scottish ref tho..... The problem is the player, he dived, and got a player sent off, he should be hammered, the red card should be given to the guy who cheated, instead of the st johnstone player. Eupraxia
We're accustomed to poor refereeing decisions in Scotland; it's probably a fair reflection of the standard of football, to be honest. Scottish footballers are quite low on the overall talent spectrum and they are as guilty of making horrendous decisions as the referees. Sadly, we're going to see many more similarly poor refereeing decisions this season. Let's just hope they balance out and we don't see a pattern favouring certain teams. Captain America
Yup, they've overpaid like hell there. Considering the money they've taken in this summer that's a properly shit signing. They've overpaid for sure but he's not a shit signing. He played pretty well by all accounts for Hull after signing in January and has been a good EPL player in his career. Only knock on him is he doesn't score enough goals but he is a good all round striker that links decently for others to score. Need to remember this is Southampton they're not going to be making the Champions league or realistically the Europa even so they can't exactly go out and get a huge name no matter how much money they make. They need to be realistic. Edited August 14, 2014 by Captain America
ca_gere
Experienced premier league player, will be happy at Southampton, his pace and workrate could mean a fruitfull partnership with the big-man Andy Carrol-esque Pelle. A little overpriced but not a terrible signing in my opinion.
Lemonade
He's a solid enough player but if I was a Southampton fan that's not the sort of signing I'd be looking for to replace Lambert, Lalana etc. I'd consider him a lower level EPL player. It seems a bit lacking in ambition IMO.

Highlights on BBC website for those who haven't seen it. Beaton has always been up there with the worst, damning indictment of the state of refs if he's let loose in the premier. Did almost exactly the same thing at Station Park once when a Montrose forward was clogged in the box and got a yellow for diving. He backed away from the Mo end quickly enough when he saw the mass stream of blue firing down the terrace to give him 'kind words' about his decision.... Soda Jerk
Moyes should give it a bash. It might be beneath him though. He wants a Champions League club. Even United is below him now. He'd be wise to just sit and wait for Ancelotti to be given the heave-ho.
Adam Easy Wishes
Palace is a dangerous job for Moyes to take. If he doesn't hit the ground running he's basically fucked and his already dodgy reputation will be destroyed. Needs a mid-table side that he can take a couple of seasons at to get them into the Europa League/push for top four or whatever to build his rep back up. Murrr
Moyes just needs to put out a hit on Alan Pardew and take the Noocassul job. Perfect for him on so many levels.
