Moon Moon
Pardon my ignorance.Do you have your final results certificate from the SQA? for the national 4's it's marked by the teachers and I've been told I passed. PE they marked it before they sent it away and their predicted mark was clear from a fail.
givemeasmile
for the national 4's it's marked by the teachers and I've been told I passed. PE they marked it before they sent it away and their predicted mark was clear from a fail. Ok but until you get the certificate you don't actually have those qualifications. There is no need to get defensive, I was just wondering if they'd brought forward results day from August in light of the changes, turns out from a quick look at their web site that they haven't. A bit of advice though; have a good think about what you're posting in terms of the points you make and your grammar. Over the top stories don't impress anybody and neither does getting defensive every time somebody cracks a joke (which may or may not be at your expense) or offers advice. Stop posting every detail of your life on public forums, you're just leaving yourself open to criticism; this is a place for people to shoot the shit about bands, insturments, gigs and other matters of general public interest. I'm not sure your family circumstances (or anybody elses) come under that category...no offence intended. If you're half as smart as your predicted grades would suggest then you're going to look back at most of your posts on here in a few years time and cringe until no end. I'm only talking from experience.

I wouldn't say you are really classed as having qualifications until you get your Highers or the equivalent, in all honesty. Do you get jobs advertising for Standard Grade level or equivalent? And no, not being bitchy, just ignorant as in my experience it's all about Highers or Int 2's at the very least. It's great that you are volunteering though, and well done. I'm only talking from experience. There will be a whole generation of folk when they get to my age are going to have this experience. I'm very glad that social media wasn't really a thing when I was a teenager. I'm sure I talked some amount of shit back then (even more so than now!), but luckily it was confided to round the back of the school or in my mate's shed or the football changing room or whatever. KarmaTsunami
What the fuck happened to the old curriculum? I was curious and found this comparison table: http://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/59033.html Regarding old posts on social media, I am forever glad that I deleted my old LiveJournal. Some of my old posts on here are supremely cringe-tastic.
Skacel
Comparing the old to the new it seems the Moon Moon got some decent grades and is reasonably intelligent. Who'd have thought it.

KarmaTsunami
Another day another rejection e-mail. I don't mind most of the time, but this was for a really decent looking role at RGU. Spent ages doing the application as well. I know it's a case of just continuing to try, but when the agencies are quiet for months on end as well it's just depressing. Chris
Another day another rejection e-mail. I don't mind most of the time, but this was for a really decent looking role at RGU. Spent ages doing the application as well. I know it's a case of just continuing to try, but when the agencies are quiet for months on end as well it's just depressing. I'm in the same situation. Looking to move into a slightly different role which I've got qualifications and some crossover experience for but finding it hard to get that initial step away from my current job into a job where I can develop properly into the other role. Keep getting encouraging bites from agencies and had a couple of interviews but then it goes quiet for ages. Just need to keep plugging away. Tweak the CV and use each talk with an agency as interview practice.

Chris
Chris If you haven't already, you might want to try Right People - http://www.rightpeople.uk.net/site/home.asp I've spoken to them already, thanks. Though not heard much from them for a while. Been re-writing my CV to big up what I've done in my previous roles (Apps Support) - emphasising project work, customer and vendor management etc - which may make me sound like a better prospect for the new role (BA/PM) so going to send that out to the agencies I've been speaking to soon for some feedback. As well as all this I'm now acting as team lead in my current job so that's more experience to add to the pot.

Alkaline
What are people's views on/experience with agencies then? Compared with doing things alone?I think they can be good but it depends on what your skill set is and how that agency can place you. I find they're good for driving your wages up. Chris
What are people's views on/experience with agencies then? Compared with doing things alone? If you're experienced in your profession agencies can be very helpful. Most IT jobs after entry level are advertised through agencies so you have to deal with them. But like everything there are good and bad ones. I had a meeting with a national agency the other week and the supposed specialist I was talking to had only been in the job for 3 months, his last job (according to linkedin) was sales assistant at the moneyshop and he didn't understand many of the details on the CV. He also refused initially to tell me the name of the company I was applying for a job with, I'd have walked if he hadn't. Thankfully he told me in the end as it turned out to be one I was very familiar with (have a current relationship with them in my present role) and I don't really want to apply for a job with them. Some of the other one I've talked to have been excellent though. Know their specialty and very happy to discuss your options.
Gypsum_Fantastic
I have had mostly good experiences so far. Got my new job I believe through Colb's place. Had a good experience with another lot as well but no concrete jobs came through. Couple of others though just seemed to want to throw my CV at people without reading it first. Adam Easy Wishes
On agencies, I only have great things to say about Thorpe Molloy. Although, that is specifically one person at Thorpe Molloy that's been good for me so I can't speak for the rest of the company. If anyone is after legal/commercial/contracts roles fire me a PM and I'll pass on his details.
