Weekend

Recommended Posts

Friday - Stonehaven Folk festival. In nice dry town hall and in the pubs

Saturday - Folk festival in more pubs and the town hall. Thinking warm, dry thoughts while everyone at T in the park gets soaked

Sunday - Folk festival in possibly more pubs.

Monday - Wake up in a warm bed, remember I've booked the day off and play xbox and guitar all day.

I have glasses at the moment. But both legs are being held on by year-old selotape, one lens keeps popping out and the wee rubber bits look like they have something growing on them. Plus, I've had them since Academy. This has been a long time coming.

My weekend is looking like total pap:

Friday: Fly back from Nigeria at 11pm

Saturday: Land in Heathrow at 5am, fly to Aberdeen at 8.30am. Saturday will be spent trying to catch up on sleep

Sunday: Fly to Dubai at 11am, arrive 11.10pm and probably start crying

Kind of similarly I am in Accra at the moment and will have nothing to do over the weekend apart from sit in my hotel room and play Football Manager/masturbate (although what's new?).

It's not even like the weather is good. Rainy and kind of hot but not really.

Are you in Lagos? I am going there on Tuesday. I hear there has been shitloads of rain/flooding?

I was in Accra yesterday! I've also been in Takoradi and Lagos this week already. Im in Port Harcourt as we speak and it's a total dive. Armed escorts to and from the airport and if we leave the base they have to be with us at all times. When did you get to Accra? What hotel are you staying in?

A weekend of gaming and masturbation sounds wonderful. I would do the same but im not sure British Airways would tolerate the latter...

Slam tent on Sunday looks pretty tidy. Paul Kalkbrenner, Pan Pot and Maya Jane Coles should all be amazing. Get yourself there if you fancy boogying to some techno

Also, Slam opening it on friday night. With the rain forecast i think im just going to set my tent up in the Slam tent.

Arrived on Monday evening (KLM via Schipol), staying at the Holiday Inn near the airport. You? I have colleagues staying at the Alesis (or something with a similar name).

Port Harcourt...jesus. Not sure I'd be a fan of that. In fact, I think my company have a ban on non-essential travel to PH at the moment anyway.

Ah, i was in the Best Western which is only 5 minutes from the airport.

Port Harcourt is a scary place. I had to get two approvals to come here because we're banned from non-essential travel as well. The level of poverty is startling and the infrastructure is pretty much non existent. I would post some pictures of my travels if only i knew how.

Dubai should be better though. Im taking a week off work after that to recouperate before i head to Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Poland and Romania. The only good thing about travelling so much is that you save a heap of money.

What's bringing you to Ghana?

In my dept, I look after Africa. Ghana's our Africa region headquarters now (weirdly only off the back of one large contract, so if they put that out to tender when it's due for renewal and we don't get it, we're pumping all this cash into new bases/office etc for nothing...), so there are a bunch of management meetings and training stuff going on this week. It will probably be regular travel out here now, Ghana and then across the region as and when. Should be decent, but you're right about saving money.

Although I'm in a right clusterfuck at the moment in that I've been locked out of my internet banking, presumably because I tried to access from Accra (despite telling them I would be here in advance). The only way to reset is for them to send out new login details (which they have done once already, but fucked up, so I stil can't access). Luckily my girlfriend is at home to pick up all this mail. Anyway, it means I don't have access now until at least Monday and I wasn't too pleased with what the woman on the phone was telling me about the balance of my account (about £700 shy of what I thought should be there). I hope I haven't been card frauded or something.

Similarly I have three voicemail messages on my mobile that I can't access because I didn't set up a security code before I left the UK. Crazy. Absolutely no way that they can give me a way to listen to them - it could be anything!

I feel your pain. I've had to tell the bank to allow access to my funds from anywhere in the world as i've no idea where i'll be week-to-week and i can't be hooped phoning the bank all the time to unblock my account. Luckily i just wax all expenditure on my company credit card and if it gets hacked then it's not my issue!

Are you actually looking forward to Africa travels? I don't like Africa one bit. I need my luxury and ability to wander unhindered without AK47s protecting my every step. It's also really fucking hot.
