Pet Hates!

My current pet hate is that my ipod is too quiet. I'm sure this is a combination of my own deafness and passing traffic, but it fucks me off on my walk to work in the morning.

Although, I think I can remedy this thanks to wikihow: Unlock iPod Volume Limit - wikiHow

Get a set of sound isolating inner-ear headphones. I have a set of Shure earphones that do the job very well. I'm listening to my mp3 player at about 2/3rds the volume of my previous set.

Ah, you've overtaken me on rep points you absolute shit! Teabags is sniffing about at my rear as well. I must get my funny on. First to the brown star wins. Or is it a rusty sherrifs badge? Bigsby, shed any light?

I win the brown star. I had hoped it would fill this empty feeling inside. It didn't. If anything it made it worse.

the no smoking police were outside my local tesco yesterday handing out their propoganda. when i informed the chap that i thoroughly enjoy my 28 year tobacco habit and have recently had an all clear from the doc which showed no signs of any smoking related illnesses and had no official plans to quit in the foreseeable future, he still insisted i take the leaflets! fucks sake leave me alone.

it pisses me off the way smokers are treated like lepers and consistantly singled out at times, i mean you dont see alchoholics anymous or some anti obesity do gooders hanging around like that being so in your face.

feel better now, time for a roll up :)

Very true. People like that are knobs. However, your addiction affects people other than yourself more than alcoholism or obesity. Fair enough, we might not like the smell of a pissed up/on tramp or looking at a super fatty fat fat but i don't like breathing in smoke at all and it's more detrimental to my health than the other two.

Folks can smoke all they like, just not in my personal space.

I tried that, but my iPod just doesn't have that file that I need to delete. Seems that the generation of iPod I have has a volume cap set by EU standards, or something equally poncey. Even with good 'phones, it still sounds tinny and nowhere near as good as my old Creative Zen. I guess Creative actually specialise in sound though, where as apple just make shiney white goods for students.

I got some in-ear Sennheiser earphones and the difference is incredible. I Pod headphones are mighty pish. I used to be able to hear nothing on the train in to work and walking up Union Street but it's fine now without deleting that file. Stupid question i'm sure but have you actually looked at the volume maximum lock setting on the I Pod? If you have and it's still nae loud enough you must be one deaf bugger!

I've owned most variations of portable music players over the years and I've never had one that has a completely satisfactory sound in comparison to a proper home stereo, I just accept that the sound quality will be reduced but at least I can listen on the move. The in-ear headphones certainly helped in terms of external noise reduction. I haven't tried any other MP3 players though, the I Pod suits my needs in terms of capacity, maybe I just accept things too easily.

It's the only reason I got an iPod was the capacity. I really wanted something 30/40+ GB, and Creative just don't seem to be involved with mass storage players now.

What kind of ear/headphones should I be looking at? I've got some Seinheiser ones. I don't know which ones. They were 25 in 1up. I would have thought over-the-ear headphones would be more logical, as they surround the whole ear and possibly block out sound? No?

You get in-ears that are designed specifically to block out outside sound. I used to use Sony MDR EX-71, which were fucking amazing. Unfortunately you can't get them any more (though some Amazon shops still have them) but I'm told the replacement model is just as good. The MDR EX-71s are going cheap as chips now since they are effectively obsolete now, you can pick them up for a tenner and they are immense.

I've got Sennheiser bud style ones that cost about 30 quid, got mine in HMV. They come with 3 sizes of rubber bud so you can pick the one that fits snugly. I have to use normal ones in the office as if I have them in I don't hear people talking to me.

Ah yes. Mine are just the regular in-ear ones. I'll give those bud ones a go some time, as they will probably solve my problems.

I suspect they will as the overall sound improved for me, probably due to cut out of external noise.

These are the ones I have -

Sennheiser Eco Ear Canal Headphones Black: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

I didn't buy them on Amazon though as I heard word folk were selling fakes that were shite build quality...
