ca_gere
Yes. And no not really. It's still pretty good though.
Lemonade
I didn't care for the novel. I have been meaning to watch the film though.
Paranoid Android
I haven't read the novel so can't comment on that. The film was okay but in a 7/10ish way that I wouldn't really recommend to anyone. Tonight I watched Captain Phillips. They should have had some guns on the boat but then there would have been no film. Not bad though.
Teabags
Crimson Tide - Don't know why I'd never watched this before. But it's fantastic. Always liked Denzel Washington. Gene Hackman is good as well. Was odd watching Gandolfini though. Didn't like his character much either, which was odd. Anyway, ace film, highly recommended. Scootray
Goon - I wasn't expecting much to be honest, but it was actually quite funny. Ice Hockey isn't that bad for fighting is it?

Scootray
Well surely there's not fisticuffs every game? Obviously I know it's rough as fuck, but my old hockey game for the Sega from years ago and this film suggest it's all about the fechtin'. Teabags
Not every single game, no. Probably every 2 or 3 games. That movie suggests it's all about the fechtin simply because it's is all about a guy whose only place on the team is to fight.
ca_gere
Goon keeps popping up in my Netflix suggestions. It looks like a poor man's slapshot. Is it worth watching?
Teabags
Not really the same film as Slap Shot at all. Worth a watch. Quite funny and Stiffler plays a proper lovable character. No hockey film will ever beat Slap Shot though. Still probably the best scene ivver... Jaaakkkeee
I think it's a fantastic film.
Scootray
Plenty of fechtin' and quite a silly film. As Teabags points out, Stiffler is a lovable character.
Lemonade
Catfish - Documentary about a guy who meets a girl on Facebook but all isn't what it seems. The shock factor has been taken out of a bit for me since it's also been made into a TV show and I've seen a lot of them. This story is a lot more mental than the TV shows though, and you get to spend a bit more time with the people involved. Good watch.**** Home Alone - Christmas classic. Haven't seen it since I was a kid, it was better than I was expecting.*** The Eye - Jessica Biel or Alba plays a blind woman who gets a retinal transplant and regains her vision, but starts seeing ghosts. It's not really very scary but its interesting enough. I think if I rewatched it knowing the twist it probably wouldn't make a lot of sense.*** Carrie - Classic chiller. Can't say enough good about this film. Not only is it a great story, but it's such a brilliantly made film, the acting, the camera work, the sets, the editing, the sound, everything. Never fails to stir up an emotional response. Just brilliant.*****
Adam Easy Wishes
I watched Home Alone recently too. And then Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Both absolute classics. The kind of movie that I can say the lines in my head before they're said on screen. As good as Christmas movies can get IMO.

I quite like the look of the re-make, the advert makes it out to look quite good. Me and missus are planning on watching a Christmas every day up till xmas from this weekend, so any suggestions outwith Home Alone, Elf, Muppets xmas carol, and the other usuals would be appreciated. Adam Easy Wishes
We started watching Scrooged last night but got tired and fell asleep (it's on Netflix). Will rewatch tonight. Your question is relevant to me too though, because I'm keen on seeing a bunch of good Christmas movies that I haven't seen before (I've not watched many films, remember?). I downloaded Bad Santa so will watch that too (I downloaded four versions, just in case - three were pornography).

I'm not sure if i should be counting films released at Xmas, if so i can slip Die Hard into the mix, without her moaning about watching another action film. Lemonade
Was it the new Carrie or the older one you watched? I quite like the look of the re-make, the advert makes it out to look quite good. It was the original I watched. I'll probably watch the remake but I'm not that excited by it, while the original is often cited as a horror classic it's not really a horror until the final few scenes, it's a story about a frightened and fragile young girl taking her first steps into womanhood and it's really emotional and affecting (well I think so anyway) and atmospheric. I think the remake is emphasising the horror aspect a lot more so it'll be a different kettle of fish altogether, they'll probably just throw a load of blood at it and add more jumpy bits and it'll probably lose a lot of the human aspect. I've overthought that haven't I.
The Milner
Well if its more horror and less about the human aspect then it should be more up my street, i've nae time for that namby pamby stuff, i just want to jump out my skin every so often and feel a bit disturbed by what im watching. Lemonade
I really like Carrie though. It was the first "grown up" book I ever read, and I've read it tons of times since. I've even got the audiobook on my iPod read by Sissy motherfucking Spacek! It's one of my top 5 favourite films as well. Cobra Kai had a song about her. So I'm allowed to overthink it. Lemonade
It's a funny little morality tale as well. Although she murders hundreds of people she's not the villain of the piece. The other schoolkids and her mother are the villains. She's written very sympathetically and if anything she's the heroine. You root for her and empathise with her, even when she's killing everyone it's her you feel sorry for, not the victims.

Jaaakkkeee
Resevoir Dogs - The mrs hadn't seen this and liked Pulp Fiction so I stuck it on. Brilliant film. Slow motion cameras were shit back in the day though. And Mr White doesn't even light his first fag. Oh and you know, no one killing Nice Guy Eddie. But apart from that, brilliant film. American Beauty - Pretty awesome movie. Had never seen it before but heard good things so the mrs brought her dvd over for us to watch. Kevin Spacey is really good in it. And with all the different characters I felt like they gave each one enough time for development. Apart from the US Marine's wife. What was up with her? Was it explained?
