Hmm. It was well written with great dialogue (which you'd expect from Aaron Sorkin) but every character in it is a prick. It's made worse because you know in advance that the company is a massive success and they all get stinking rich off it.

The coding scenes were a joke as well.

I thought the fact that everyone was a prick with brief glimpses of ol' friendship was great. And supposedly he did do all that code for FaceMash in one night if that's what you're on about?

The weekend watches were....

Saw : The Final Chapter 3D (Extreme Edidition wowee!)

I saw Saw1* and missed all the other sequels, but I guess if you've Saw 1 you've saw them all. Has some pretty inventive ways of killing obnoxious characters. 5/10

I enjoyed Saw 1 as the twist at the end was not too bad. And to be fair it wasn't even that gorey. Now they're just trying to shock. I saw Saw VI and was close to walking out if it didn't end so fast. I never bothered with number 7.

A Haunting in Connecticut

Loosely based on fact, this fillum does what it says on the tin. It's about a family being haunted...in Connecticut. Well enough acted and has one REAL jump out your seat moment. 6/10

I missed the jumpy part when I watched it so it was kind of a waste on me. No real suspense in my opinion.

I don't have a problem with him doing it all in one night but there's no chance it just worked. Where were the hours spent hunting for an unmatched bracket? That wouldn't make for a good movie though.

I think it was just demoralising.

Everyone in the film is a dick and they ALL win. Even the rowing wankers got their 65 million dollar payoff at the end. It's even worse that it's a true story (generally).

He's just that ace eh. It's a superhero movie. that's his power. No unmatched brackets. Ever.

Yeah I get what you mean in the spoiler. We'd all love for

The twins to get nothing and Sean Parker to get sacked, but it it would cause more moaning about the story not being true than the drinking and partying thing

Let The Right One In - Swedish language vampire movie, not at all horror, more a coming of age sorta thing about an adolescent boy who meets a girl who turns out to be a vampire. Creepy as hell in places and beautiful in others - sort of a The Orphanage / Sixth Sense vibe. Definitely see this.

****

Down Terrace - A low budget British crime flick about a family of criminals trying to figure out which of their close associates grassed them in to the rozzers and got them jailed. It's set almost entirely in their living room. Tries to be the Sopranos but it feels more like the Royle Family. Never really gets going.

**

Scott Pilgrim vs The World. - My new favourite movie! Everything about this film I like. Super-stylish look and feel, and great characters and acting. Knives Chau is a delight.

Predators

Started off promising but got very silly pretty quickly.

Machete

From the same studio as Predators, but better. Pretty daft B movie pastche but enough going on to retain my interest. Also as an honorary Texan I foundf the Mexican immigration subplot interesting. Good ensemble cast. First decent De Niro film in 12 years or something?

MacheteJessica Alba and Lindsey Lohan get their lungs out.

Body double in the case of Lohan.

Hereafter

Eastwood directed piece on the afterlife. Interesting themes and a good central performance by Matt Damon but fizzles out with a non-ending and is therefore ultimately disappointing.

Juno is pretty average though. Actually that might be giving it too much credit.

Red - shit more like. The bird fae weeds looked tidy. Everyone seemed to be phoning it in. No real storyline, crap gun fight scenes (when will Hollywood stop the non stop duck and cover shooting from behind a wall set pieces? They were good in the 80s but just boring now) overall not as good as confessions of a window cleaner.

Watched The Motorcycle Diaries the other night. Based on his book documenting a South American road trip taken by Che Guevara and his friend when he was in his early 20s. It was this which opened his eyes to the suffering of the world and divisions in society and shaped his future life.

Great story, great acting and surprisingly good humoured. 9/10.

I didn't have much more than a rudimentary knowledge of him and also his being the poster boy for students going through their mandatory socialist phase. Are the 'Che' films with Del Torro worth a watch?

Yes absolutely. Think we talked about them earlier in this thread. The first one is more cohesive than part 2 but both are excellent.

Thanks, have put them on my Love Film list.

Anyone want to fire me some recommendations old or new? My list is a bit sparse. No horror films, wizards, blue people or aliens.

Let's start a new thread for recommendations:

Wait, hold on a second. There are SEVEN Saw films? Seven? 7??

The Room

A little background on this film: Writer/Director/Star Tommy Wiseau raised 6m to make this movie out of his own pocket. He wrote, shot and starred in this movie which in it's entire run in the cinema made around 2,000.

It is hailed as being the worst movie ever made.

Y'know when someone says that something is "so bad that it's good" but they really mean that it's shite but you'll laugh at it once or twice?

Not so with The Room. The Room is so endlessly awful that it is gut-wrenchingly hilarious from start to finish. The actors can't act, the script is terrible, the plot is awful, the scenery is horrendous, the metaphors are clumsy, the plotholes are unbleievable.

This 'romantic drama' is so infinitely shit that it was remarketed as a black comedy and since then a cult following of people now go to viewings and chant along with the farcically long 'pan across scenery' shots, do laps around the aisles during the painfully long, uncomfortable sex scenes, correct the inaccurate dialogue and (the highlight for me)

when a framed picture of a spoon appears in the background on the set. the list of 'memes' (for lack of a better term) surrounding this movie seems endless and it's an utter riot to watch, especially in a cinema full of people who know the 'memes' that go along with it.

If you see this movie showing anywhere, go see it. It's a cinema experience unlike anything I've ever seen.

Wiki for more info.

10/10
