Lemonade
Bruce Almighty - Jim Carrey isn't in full gurning mode, but he has his moments. The film itself is very funny in places, Steve Carrell getting tounge-tied trying to read the news is hilarious, but it falls badly into schmaltz by the end. Also the main character complains constantly about how shit his life is - but he works on the telly, he has a really nice flat and he's shagging Jennifer Aniston, so it's difficult to feel much sympathy for the cunt.***
Guest Bob Knob
Watched Bounty Hunter last night. Very few laughs but Anistons tits make up for it.

Very few laughs but Anistons tits make up for it.that sounds a hell of a lot more appealing but if i ever see it(them!) it'll be on the small screen. Monster Zero
Pale RiderMid-80's Clint Eastwood Western that retreads the ground covered in his early-70's effort 'High Plains Drifter'. A group of gold-panners have their community ransacked by thugs employed by Lahood, the local rich guy. Clint plays a mysterious stranger who helps one of the panners out of trouble when he gets a kicking from the same thugs when he visits the town. He goes back to stay in the panners community and turns out to be a preacher, in due course inspiring the panners to stand up for themselves. Lahood hires a corrupt marshall and his 6 deputies to come and sort things out, leading to a final confontation with the Preacher. Great film but I still prefer 'High Plains Drifter'. 9/10. Alkaline
Into The Wild. 5/5 this is what i needed! A bit of a downer at times but a truly fantastic film! A young man who doesn't believe in society sets off away from home, destroying his ID and documents, buns his money and heads off in his car under the name name Alexander supertramp to travel. I would recommend this to anyone. really enjoyed this film.A "bit" of a downer? The guy bloody well dies, if that's not a downer i don't know what is? Lemonade
I was summarising the film with out giving away the ending. It was very very very sad at the end, i nearly cried when i realised he wouldn't go back to be adopted by Ron:down:You know it was a true story, yeah? Here, read this:Into the Wild: Amazon.co.uk: Jon Krakauer: Books
Lemonade
Yeah it was why i picked it up and it mentioned it at the end. Like any true story though, how do they know all that happened? I know he kept a journal and stuff but did he detail it that much? There's a lot of speculation in the book, but the film was pretty true to it. It's quite an uplifting film really, expect for that one bit. The book is actually really boring.
Monster Zero
Finally watched The Room all the way through. Holy shitting fuck.Shutterspeed are kind of like the Aberdeen music scene equivalent of 'The Room'.
Surfer_Rosa
Shutterspeed are kind of like the Aberdeen music scene equivalent of 'The Room'.That's actually quite a good analogy. The numerous sex scenes set to R&B slow jams were almost exactly as uncomfortable as listening to a 'speed songs.
kirsten
Finally got round to watching Anvil: The Story of Anvil. It wasn't as funny as I was expecting, but still very sweet.
Norseman
You really feel for the Anvil guys, was a bit surreal seeing them play in Edinburgh before xmas, very very enthusiastic live and very humble.Saw Kick Ass recently, tremendous film, absolutely loved it with Nic Cage ace as a psychotic but caring daddy! Hit Girl steals the film though and is an uber cool character (though probably not a great role model for most 11 year old girls) :-) 9.5/10Eventually got round to watching the new Star Trek film, can't say I liked it and thought the story was pish, so many plot holes and idiotic actions and decisions for dramatical effect it just got me annoyed. C'mon, a cadet who hadn't even qualified yet from the academy made a captain!!! What???? Not a single shuttle/fighter/man with a stick to protect vulcan and earth from the big drill thingy, come on!!! 3/10Also watched The Matador, a very quirky role for Pierce Brosnan. I enjoyed it very much, some unusual twists and turns and Brosnan nails the role of a burnt out, screwed up unpredictable hit man to a tea. Lots of quite amusing sequences as well and he plays off straight man Gregg Kinnear very well. 8/
ca_gere
Shutterspeed are kind of like the Aberdeen music scene equivalent of 'The Room'.Yes! I was gonna make the same comparison in the other thread but I just don't have the energy to contribute to that one anymore. I'm going to a screening of it in May... And I'm bringing cutlery! Monster Zero
The Girl With the Dragon TattooExcellent adaptation of an excellent book. Naturally some of the book's intricacies and detail had to be condensed but they did it very well. One of the few 2.5 hour films that felt an hour shorter. Lisbeth Salander was very well cast and played. Was a bit strange having someone who looked a bit like a young Charles Bukowski playing Mikael Blomkvist though, while reading the books I've always imagined someone who looked like William Petersen in 'Manhunter' for some reason. 10/10. Monster Zero
CleopatraAs in the early 60's Liz Taylor/Richard Burton effort. Apparently this bankrupted the studio after the budget ran over to the tune of 44 million - that's a lot of cash for then! The film has a reputation as a flop, I guess that is down to the fact it only recouped a shade over half the budget, but it's actually not a bad film, certainly looks good and the sets are impressive considering there was no CGI in those days. I actually found Burton's portrayal of Anthony a bit annoying. Liz Taylor was tidy in her day. It's a long film, 4 hours, so was viewed in instalments. 7/10. Swingin' Ryan
Went to see Cemetery Junction on Thursday and I thought it was brilliant. I'm a long-time Gervais/Merchant obsessive I expected great things and it totally lived up to expectations for me.Anyone expecting an out-and-out Office/Extras style comedy will be surprised but for what is primarily a drama there are lots of incredibly funny scenes. It ticked all the boxes for a 'coming-of-age' type film and it had three of the best debut film appearances I've seen from the three main guys. Tom Hughes was particularly great, he's the new James Dean, ludicrously cool.
Monster Zero
Paranormal ActivityA bit repetitive overall but quite effectively done. As with 'Blair Witch Project' it showed that sometimes less can be more to get under your skin. 7/10.

As with 'Blair Witch Project' it showed that sometimes less can be more to get under your skin. 7/10.Did you see the film about the haunted yogurt? Paranormal Activia (sorry)My latest ventures have been:Kick Ass: It's alright but the mood and message are all over the place. Fun to watch, but isn't as good as 'real' superhero movies.Love Me If You Dare: Fantastic French romance, one of my favs. Really surprised nobody's tried to re-make it yet.Candy Strippers: Not what I thought it would be, really boring and generic 'horror' set in a hospital. Lame, lame, lame.Orgazmo: A Mormon in the porno business, brilliant. Don't want to sound like a queer or nothing, but I think unicorns kick ass!Hot Rod: Danny McBride + The Lonely Island = where the fuck has this been hiding? Amazing offbeat comedy. Samberg is great. Bigsby
Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakuel. The Alvin and the Chipmunk films are a notch above your standard kiddie fare I feel, this was good. And is it wrong that I can't get their version of You Reaaly Got Me out of my head?Astroboy. Again, an excellent kids movie. Pretty much at Pixar levels I would say, although Nicholas Cage managed to be crap even when only acting with his voice.Harry Brown. Basically Death Wish 3, except in Britain, and not shit.EDIT: To point out before some other smart arse does that I know that Death Wish 3 was filmed in Britain.
