  1. dont want to be seen to be xenophobic, but.... what james allen does, and btw it pisses me off more than you, a lot of english f1 commentators have done through the years. (btw i note at one point last week blundell pointed out that hamilton winning the world championship this year was inevitable) for some reason commentators think the only reason we watch f1 is to see an english/ british driver give johnny foreigner what for. the english press will very quickly raise the profile of any english driver, raise the expectation and then swiftly seek to destroy them the moment they dont perform... hill being a good example. like you i wish hamilton well, but equally i am sick of hearing about him. a good anecdote focuses on john watson in zolder in '82 or 83. both he and lauda qualified on the back row of the grid because the team - mclaren - didnt manage to have cars prepared for friday qauls and on saturday it rained. so, according to murray, IRISH man john watson started the race from the back row. as the race progressed and john watson made it through the field to about tenth, midway through the race, he promptly became BRITISH. finally, when he won murray walker celebrated ENGLISH man john watson superb victory....
  2. monday 24th is MOHARE , HEADLIGHT , ESTRELLA , THE UNDERKILLS , VELVET AUDIO monday 31st is VESUVIAN , ESKIMO BLONDE , THE HOLY SMOKES , THE VANZANTS , THE DIRTY HAND SHAKES
  3. Louise is rubbish... worse still i notice one of eccelstones offspring doing a bit of similar work... frankly i hope he doesnt retire for a bit, i think he is doing a pretty good job where he is... ha, bet you dont remember the dodgy sinclair spectrum overlay titles bbc used to run in the 80's, they looked shit in the 80's, look comical now... i have an old tape of them kicking about somewhere... i used to go racing at boyndie (national kart) they used to play the chain to spectators at the begining of some finals.... the locals got used to it, drivers from further afeild were somewhat bemused...
  4. they are keeping brudle, in fact he is the only member of the team who is transferring to the beeb.... james allen i could easily live without... he is the worst f1 commentator i have had to endure since watching f1 in the 80's...
  5. yep same here. that will be full membership allowing you to use the facilities anytime.
  6. new sound city range are more of the "cheap chinese made valve amps" of which a lot of decent amp manufacturers seem to be getting involved in (big mistake IMHO) - the list includes fender, peavey, ashdown etc... i tried a lot of the hiwatt stuff in denmark street a few years ago, i thought it was pretty good, but overpriced for a korean made amp (im told - but finished in the uk) if you want a real hiwatt, and have a few bob to spare, speak to matamp, they make a "Harry Joyce" head (the engineer behind the hiwatt). the joyce head is probably the closest you will get to a real hiwatt today. the HJ head that matamp produce is based on his last ever prototype head before he passed on. back to the sound city, i'd try them by all means, sad thing is even if they sound good, based on the performance of similar products you would have to wonder how reliable it is....
  7. can be.... i have used them four or five times, usually you get a confirmation within a few hours which specifies the bloke to which to send your " where's my spy camera?" type e-mails. they will even send you a text when your goodies ship.... however once it took two days to get the confirmation.... thomanns prices are good... thier delivery is usually free.... but their deliveries can be pretty slow....
  8. Best Gig.... Roger Waters at Earls Court, (although hyde park was better, but that was last year) Andy Fairweather Low would be another contender (although the end of his set where he played his 60's hits wasn't my thing - punters loved it - but the first half of his set was superb)
  9. hmmm... i got half a dozen sets via stringsdirect.co.uk in 2 minutes.... do i win a coconut...? got to their search box and type "12 string electric" there is about 5 pages of stuff.... some of them are bass sets and just sets with the number 12 in them.... but peppered in there you will find rick, diadrio etc etc...
  10. sm58beta is pretty good, you can pick one up for about a hundred bux...
  11. yep... prices last year were mental... they under cut everybody i know.... well worth a visit.. i will be there...
  12. russian big muff... i think i bought one a year or two ago..... i'll check tonight if it is russian.... (pi model if memory serves me) i'd sell mine... i never use it.... good nick never gigged etc etc... very "sustainy" but the tone is just not my thing i guess....
  13. seconded, BUT dont bother paying royal mail for next day "special" delivery that strings direct automatically offer if you want next day delivery... for some reason its crap... of all the orders i've placed with stringsdirect (usually for fairly obscure strings) the FOC delivery has been turned around in a day, whereas i've had to go chasing the "special" delivery on numerous occasions...
  14. we wrote a song about that carpet... ok not quite, the singer was stuck for ideas during a jam...looked down and hey presto a whole world of inspiration at his feet!

    track day racing

80 quid or so (was in my day anyway) will get you 6 laps in an XR2 - with instruction(probably something quicker now) and then 5 in a formula ford... fucking bargain... i've done it a few times... including winning fastest bloke of the day/ class/ something or another.... the instruction is good... the circuit is superb (but short) duffus dip takes a little bit of corage as does the chicane at the top of the hill (which actually turns in exactly the opposite direction as you anticipate on approach).... try and learn the circuit in advance in your head... take it easy to begin with and you will have a ball... they also have a skid pan course... very useful... and a rally course.... all good stuff....
  16. so how long you got to wait? i waited from 18th august to end of october for a head once....
  17. good for you! hope you enjoy all the benefits(!?) of non 4 wheel transport including... - low fuel costs - easy to make your way through traffic jams - much more enjoyment/ skill/ attention/ road craft required to ride a bike downside.. - much higher risk of injuries.... think of your self as a turtle on the beach... the first few months can be pretty treacherous... (after that it gets only marginally more safe) as for 55mph...feels a lot faster on two wheels than it does on four... got a few bikes, but my fav is the duc
  18. an akai head rush is a pretty versatile, easy to use delay... with plenty of extras... such as simulated tape loop delay... multiple outputs for different virtual head positions, not to mention it can sample 16 - 20 odd seconds... which you can then sample overdub etc... if you want to use it in pure delay mode it is a doddle to use, i partularly like the very useable tap delay action.... as for pitch control, boss make a nice, intelligent, but expensive pitch shifter... the ps-5, it can make harmonies in particular keys, or just pitch shift a number of semitones up or down... it can be a pretty basic chorus aswell... pitch shift range is up or down 2 octaves... there are plenty of others... ...does that help any.....?
  19. bassist required... aberdeen band seek bassist for straight ahead rock band. we write all our own material. the band line up is two guitarists, singer & drummer with ages ranging from mid twenties to late 30's. bassist age can vary from 18 to 60 (+/-18years). we have been playing together for over a year... ability to play moody arpeggios and funky licks would be advantageous... (if that helps any) don't ask about influences as i wouldn't say there are any obvious influences in the stuff we do we practice once a week through the week. pm if interested. oh yeah... punch and pie...
  20. i was abroad for about 10 days, and missed the gtr more than i thought... so i tracked down the local music store and shelled out 70 quid for a cheap gtr that i would either leave in the hotel, sell back to the store or just plain trash it... it was a maxtone "handmade custom" for which read hand made by an indonesian machine and just as customised as the other 500,000 that came of the line that year... surprise is it was pretty damn good for a 70 quid gtr... strat copy, reasonably stable trem, hot pickups, very flat neck... plays well sounds good you could do well worse for twice the mulah... never seen a maxtone in the uk though...
  21. smoke on the water on one string.... sounding pretty sweet an' all....
