  1. there are numerous examples of serious accidents that support your view where the driver has survived. there is also a significant element of luck involved in any accident, but that is neither here nor there. the safety, strength and resiliance of f1 cars of today versus those of yesteryear can be analysed/ illustrated more objectively with controlled destructive testing, than with dodgy footage of fatal accidents. watching/ posting such images is disrespectful in the extreme, and further you have mentioned a perspective i was too polite to: that watching such video is essentially enjoying the "thrill" of a snuff movie. bottom line is, not only is it disrespectful to the driver in question, it is also very disrespectful to the family. god forbid a close relative of anybody you know were to die on camera, and they later discovered the film accumulating hits on you tube. some time ago, after senna's death Hello magazine took an interest in senna. certainly more than at any time during his life. unlike any serious motor sport magazine* that only printed images of him while he was alive while reporting the accident, Hello had no quarms about printing a frame by frame sequence of his last milliseconds of life. Scorge, your views do not put you in good company. as for zinardi, he survived, and obviously loves the sport he competes in, further he was happy to be filmed in front of his car with his prosthetic legs (previous image posting), these were conscious decisions made by him. Villeneuve, Palletti, Pironi, Winklehock, de Angelis and countless others dont have the luxury of that choice. i hope you enjoy the season.
  2. guys this is just plain wrong. in the past, if i driver died the motor sports press would only print pictures of the driver while he was alive. if the accident was survived then photos could be pretty detailed. what we are doing is watching a recording of a human beings last moments for your our own morbid entertainment. have some respect. i remember seeing some old 70's footage of a team canoeing in some pretty treacherous rapids. things went very wrong. there was guy filming the unfolding events on a crappy cinicamera. in his narration you hear his commentary in which he points out that if his friend (the canoeist) survives they would all watch the movie some other day. if he died the film was going in the river behind him....
  3. it was pallettis second ever race, he qualified pretty much last. didier pironi's car (on pole) stalled on the grid at the start. by the time palletti crossed the start finish line he was doing 200mph. he crashed into the back of the ferrari and burst into flames. it took over an hour before anybody could get at him. during that time he was alive but suffering from internal bleeding, which proved fatal.
  4. if my memory serves me right eddie cheever had a very similar accident in detriot(?- not sure, definitely usa though) where quite literally walked out of the car (just sat up and walked forward, not climbing out of the cockpit) unscathed. just plain luck. a year later we lost Gilles Villeneuve, Didier Pironi, Ricardo Palletti. changed days thankfully. I thought kubica's crash in montreal was going to be fatal, that really brought home the improvements. crazy to think that the unprotected human skull is good for impacts up to around seven mph...
  5. i agree with idol btw, spend more get disproportionately better... for me the best digital reverb available is the nova reverb (tc electronics). try it, buy it you wont need another reverb - there isnt much verb based that it cant do....
  6. having a pete cornish P-2, i cant speak highly enough of this mans work. expensive but worth every penny... let me know what you think of the G-2. i was toying with the idea of picking one up. out of interest, what was/is your waiting time and where are you getting it from? btw i see the bk is in production again. is yours a vintage or new model?
  7. eh justin, possibly a mistake in the offing, z-machine have been on the same bill as us in the past... the folks in the myspace link you've got there aren't them... i can tell...
  8. eh, where did you buy it? i traded in a dsl-50 a while back. mine was barely used and in immaculate condition...
  9. according to the links above he still gets about 80 grand a year in royalties... (nae bad for a tune)
  10. vintageandrareguitars.com are good for skreddy or go to skreddy himself, although i understand he is currently snowed under... i just picked up a lunar module that i ordered 3 months back and my top fuel is going to be a month late what has steered you to the mayo?
  11. sound control dundee is still on the go isn't it? management buyout or something?
  12. i am a gibson customer, four times over. i do not approve of this nonsense. it is very unlikely that i will buy another gibson anytime soon, or at all. QED, the new sales philosophy has lost at least one customer. i bet i am not the last. i bet more are lost than gained in the short, medium or long term. the fellow who started this thread was making a comment that the local music store has a poorer stock collection than he would like. i wonder if he was recently interested in buying a gibson? i wonder how recent his last guitar purchase was? i wonder if it was a gibson? i'd prefer a local store with at least a smattering of gibsons. the stores that no longer stock gibson, i can tell you from experience include stores in scotland that had excusive deals on some models in the uk. you may have had some bad experience with rosetti, please feel free to elaborate if you wish. i have had no such problems, i know people that have ordered stuff from them and been perfectly happy, but due to my own perceptions/ experience i am pretty neutral on the whole subject (of rosetti) gibsons sales world wide will go down as a result of the crunch. the annual reports of 07, 08 and 09 will provide testament to that. gibson sales in the uk will go down disproportionately, largely due to their recent distribution philosophy. the "gibbo lovers excitement " will be little consolation i would guess. are you in some way affiliated with any of these "superstores" or gibson?
  13. rod, you don't seem to be making a whole heap of sense... here's why (imo) 1. choosing select dealerships is one thing but 2stoes for 6 million people is just plain dumb. 2. as regards range, a lot of the stores that used to stock gibbos had very comprehensive ranges, now as a result of this nonsense policy, they stock none. 3. two stores in scotland stock gibbo's. i have owned four (gibbos not stores), currently own two. i tried 16 different standards before buying the one that worked for me (from r&b funnily enough). the difference between a good one and a not so good one was considerable. spending the sort of money that buys a gibbo at least justifies trying one first. if there are very few stores stocking them, you don't try one, you wont buy one. 4. Exposure, yep the name could become exclusive, but it's a dangerous game, no first hand exposure, no sale. 5. i'm guessing a lot of this had to do with the strong pound. first gibson cut off the us internet sales path by making state side dealers aware that foreign internet sales would not be tolerated. now the pound is almost unity with the latvian butnik, gibsons, and to a lesser degree strats, are going to go up in price, coupled with credit crunch shock, gibsons sales are going to take a disproportionate hit. 6. you think it's smart i think its dumb, we could exchange views and pontificate eternally, i believe gibson themselves will prove me right. in six to nine months they will change their policy considerably and they will be making the rounds looking for a new uk distributor and trying to pedal their wares to as many guitar stores are remotely interested. time will tell...
  14. eh i bought my "expensive" guitar off r&b... i did so or various reasons, not least that they were able to source difficult(ish) guitars to find, they know the industry/ importers/ distributers very well and the deal i got was pretty damn good... gibson have dumped their distributors (rosetti), and as a result of their policy "realignment" there are only two stores i know of that sell gibbos in scotland. i have a feeling they, gibson, are going to regret this nonsense...
  15. have a decent home studio, but bought the micro for recording jams and recording ideas while in hotels etc.. the micro br impressed me a lot. decent sounds (fx) decent capabilities etc good for the money. the rhythm section is good and bad, some good loops but not very editable, but for a hundred odd bux i think it is pretty good...
  16. neato! thanks uncle G, another satisfied customer....
  17. Dear Uncle G, A while back i bought a new guitar, although i was jolly pleased with it, i thought the neck pick up with no coil taps sounded a little mushy. Now some 6 months have passed, and with all effects and amp in the same settings i find the sound pretty decent. What do you think has happened? Has my hearing changed? Have the pick ups improved with age?
  18. couldnt disagree more. get a valve amp with shit loads of clean headroom. fender supersonic/ fender twin/ hi-watt, use a P2 pete cornish fuzz for distortion. imho you cant get a better lead tone. the above is the guts of dave gilmour's tone... he kinda knows a thing or two about guitar tone i reckon...
  19. 2nded... almost certainly a dry joint... easy to fix...
  20. why do you say that? he didnt seem like an arse on the telly last night....
  21. i dont know this amp, but first thoughts are: 1. are the knobs metallic/ conductive? 2. if it is a spring reverb module it will have one screened line in one one screened lineout, i'm guessing you are missing a ground, hence the buzzing. if you have a digital volt meter (bloody cheap these days -maplin for a tenner) you could test the continuity of the lines to the reverb.... alternatively all of the above could be crap....
  22. actually i do quite a lot of it on a daily basis... the correct abbreviation for mathematics is maths. math is an incorrect american abbreviation. you will often find that the americans spell english words with fewer letters for some reason.... yo figu i ou....
  23. hey, i know Ron, i think, but you have spelt his second name incorrectly... Ron also does a lot of first class pa work... if it is the same bloke...
