memories of drakes.

Dos Dedos's final ever gig with Subsistence to a Drakes filled bizarrely to capacity.

Dos Dedos playing a random Saturday afternoon gig at an hours notice for somebody's leaving party.

Playing a gig with Sirius and almost getting beat up by the bassist from the Swell-Bellies for knocking over his bass amp (accidentally I might add)

Many, many nights of lock-ins with NIcky Casino and my old flatmate drinking vodka and fake red bull till 6am.

Finding two randomly discarded pairs of pants on the bar floor during one such lock in. Added my own pants.

Drunkenly attempting to sing "The Wanderer" by Del Shannon at an open mic night, and forgetting both the chords AND the words.

Drakes was so much fun. My early 20s WAS Dr Drakes.

special times. drakes just makes me think of the little damp enclave where you kept your kit. AUBL alldayers, particularly 29 December 2001: AUBLooza.

i also remember sitting in there one Sunday afternoon (in the other room, not the venue part) with dave and chris officer, bigbad, etc. having a meeting about a proposed gig at the beach ballroom. shame it never happened, that would have been the nuts.

Dr Drakes was special too. Like the gig with the X-Certs and dave from sidca when the support pulled out and i bought a homeless dude a half pint to play instead and then he 'went to get his guitar' and never came back!

Must have missed this thread first time round:

- Last ever Maiden Taiwan gig. Not because of us, but it was the first time I saw Spike Pile Driver. My life has never quite been the same since.

- First Spike gig, which attracted a large thread on here IIRC.

- Bumsnogger!

- DJ'ing a couple of gigs.

I was in Sapphire a while ago while I was back in town, but I couldn't stay there for more than one drink, because it didn't feel right.

not

I'm the same with Sin - not exactly the same as Estaminet. Last time I was in Sin, the 'DJ' (Dude with itunes) played 'Loch Lomond' and about 5 guys went into a huddle and jumped around. Sad.

I saw Maple in the Drakes on the Castlegate, they stood out.

I saw hundreds of acts at both Drakes and met loads of people.

The Screamin Stukas were ace .

Mart oot o Colon Open Bracket and his electro chums were fun tae .

I loved King Liar and the Brutes and The Videos, they made me feel like getting in a fight and making up with prepostirous drinking, AYE, Drakes was a hoot .

Guest treader.

Having The Valentine melt my face.

Onion Terror gigs.

Asian Morrisette gigs.

JEDI's second ever gig, and a random note we found written by Bob and Kai saying we were the best band ever, which although obviously sarcastic, was pretty cool when I was 13.

aaaand the Dangerfields. "This song's about kicking your ass, it's called Kick Your Ass"

Microphones / Mt Eerie at Dr Drakes.

The Alternative101 gig that seemed to start at 1 or 2 and went on forever. I liked a hell of a lot of the bands but I couldn't tell you many of their names!

+others

where to start...

Feverdream & Mono (not the japanese band)

Man Inc (who could forget him!)

Youthmovies & Redjetson

Adorno Records launch with Torqamada, Macrocosmica, Fighting Red Adair, Mercury Tilt Switch amongst others (bloody ace line up, naebody there!)

Keitzer

Fighting Shit (Olafur Arnalds hardcore band)

Macrocosmica & Narcosis

Pete Doherty,The Libertines and their entourage turning up at the end of a open mic, where Pete & Karl (that his name?) took over the stage, sang songs from shows whilst clearly out of it...we couldnt get rid of them, jim had to chuck them out in the end

i may edit this with more highlights when i remember...

i also remember the cleaning up of puke and the throwing people out. oh and the lock ins, and the lack of sleep

I could start a list but wont, old and forgetful for a start.

2+ years of the best times surrounded by the best people, best, and worst music, great nights with the doors closed...

Being mesmerized by Opaque stands out seeing and meeting Drat and the numerous other bands that Shaz and other promoters booked.

Nice to dig the out the old nostalgia now and again and be reminded of our wee and special venue and times. Shame we couldn't bottle what we all made eh:up:
