The World Cup 2014 Thread

I think the key to our World Cup will be the fitness of experienced central midfield pairing Yasuhito Endo (141 caps) and Nurnberg's Makoto Hasebe (77 caps). At 34 this will be probably be Endo's last tournament, but his leadership plus his creativity and his free kicks will be central to any success we have. Up front Shinji Okazaki of Mainz will be looking to add to his 38 goals for the national team, and Keisuke Honda of Milan with 20 international goals is always dangerous. He has scored 1 goal in Serie A this season so he's on form going into the tournament. At the back its all about Maya Yoshida, ever-present for Southampton as he has been the last two seasons, and Yuto Nagatomo. You don't play 105 times for Inter without being class. Between the sticks Eiji Kawashima is always a safe pair of hands, he's had a cracking season for Standard Liege so he'll be confident going in to the World Cup. We kick off our preparations in a Kirin cup match against Cyprus on Tuesday, then a double-header against Costa Rica and Zambia the following week so that'll give us an indiciation of where things are and how old Zaccheroni Cheese is planning lining them up in Brazil.

Kagawa is usually a star performer for the national side, despite being under/wrongly utilized for United. He's going to tear it up, and make David Moyes look a fool. A FOOL!

First complete group thanks to Del.  We'll call that the "Group of Death" just because...

I saw a clip on the news about Suarez and funnily enough, he was in goals, complete with goalie gloves on.  Stick the boot into Ghana, why don't you...?

All the other chat is irrelevant.  Fellaini's been underperforming for United this season to lull all you fools into a false sense of security.  We're gonna smash you.  Every one of you.

I'd forgotten all about Kagawa. It's almost like I don't know anything about Japanese football.

EDIT - or international football.

We (Ivory Coast) havce selected 4 goalkeepers for the World Cup. I can't wait to see all of them in action.

In other news, our front line will consist of Drogba, Kalou, Bony, Gervinho and the Everton Traore; in other words the makings of an unstoppable team.

Hopefully Tiote breaks Samaras' legs.

EDIT: We haven't selected 4 goalkeepers. I just read the 28 man squad list instead...woops.

You have a pretty good first XI, actually. Unfortunately you have Sol Bamba at CB so you will conceded, but a midfield/frontline of:

Toure - Tiote

Kalou - Drogba - Bony - Gervinho

...is pretty tasty.

Excuse me? Bamba is a proven SPL standard centre half. Him and big Kolo at the back are the human equivalent of bullet proof glass.
