My school sent us home today at 11ish before the snow got any worse. :D

Although I only had free periods for the rest of the day so it doesn't make much of a difference.

School???

Stop making me feel old :)

And did someone say Cloud lives in Poland? When did he move out of Aberdeen?

Incidentally, does anyone know if it's possible to get travel insurance that covers you in the event of the airline cancelling the flight? Poland appears not to have heard of such a thing.

Yup. Any decent travel insurance policy would cover such things including paying for hotel accommodation, a new ticket home etc. should you need it in such circumstances. I pay 30 a year for multi-trip travel insurance that covers travel to most of the world, even exotic and exciting countries like Poland.

Don't expect the airlines to help you out though. Unless it's their fault (and the weather isn't) then usually youre entitled to nothing if your flight gets cancelled. With Ryanair it wouldn't surprise me if they charge you extra for the inconvenience of them having to cancel your flight.

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) have launched a global appeal for urgent relief for the nation's capital. Mayor Boris Johnson has declared the city "a...oh, y'know... ghastly wotsit of terrifically um, crikey, shocking state of affairs, I dare say if I may, er... will that do chaps?..."

The few reports that have been able to come through from London suggest that while some M&S relief lorries have been able to get to some of the outlying areas, conditions in the stricken town centre are described as 'almost 20th Century"...It appears the city's education system has almost completely broken down. Women and children have been left completely unable to move, as their traditional 4x4 vehicles are entirely unsuited to the massive drifts, some reaching over three inches. Volunteer home tutors have been drafted in, but without fully waterproof footwear, many simply cannot get through the desperate conditions. East European nannies are said to be working shifts of up to four hours at a time just to try and stem the tide of rapidly spreading boredom. Those trapped in their homes have been left without fresh croissants, and latte supplies are running dangerously low.

Any contributions can be sent to DEC for distribution, with Barbour jackets and pashminas a priority.

Unfortunately the BBC have refused to broadcast the appeal, to try and maintain impartiality with those in the North.

Fucking snow.

I have a flight from Poznan at 2pm to Edinburgh, and seeing as it's with Ryanair, I'm finding myself desperately hoping that the flight gets out of Edinburgh allright. Ryanair tend to be quite good about getting the plane back to base - so I'm not too bothered about delays, but I'm absolutely worried sick that the Edinburgh-Poznan flight will get cancelled.

The outwards flight is at 10:20, so I'm hoping that the snow won't fall in Edinburgh until later in the day - a delayed flight is no issue, but we need a plane to take us there.

I've spent most of today checking the weather forecast and the flight schedules, hoping desperately that Ryanair don't get too messed up today. It seems fine...touch wood.

Incidentally, does anyone know if it's possible to get travel insurance that covers you in the event of the airline cancelling the flight? Poland appears not to have heard of such a thing.

I was in Edinburgh yesterday and there was absolutely no snow at all. It wasn't even that cold.

Apparently the Haudagan's closed due to a burst water main, which won't be helping anything today.

Big debates in our office just now as 2 of our team live in BoD and we're in the west end. I'm not fussed really, the snow actually means I'll get an easier walk home than I did this morning in the ice.

yeah its fucked up that way, my friend doesnt think she will get home from dyce tonight and might have to spend the night in her work.

My old man has been stuck on the muggiemoss road for over an hour now and cant get moved at all. We've also had 2 jackknived lorries in bod and a 4 car crash.

It seems like no one has ever seen snow before, especially these maniacs in cars who think that the more you rev when your stuck on ice the better it does.

It's unbelievable how nobody knows how to handle ice/snow these days. I'm a country loon, so it comes fairly naturally...

I can't remember the number of times I've been behind someone driving very very slowly because it's frosty, but when they come to a corner they slam on the brakes. There's no point driving slowly if you're going to hammer the brakes on cos you'll skid. If it's icy enough to go that slow, you stay off the brakes as much as you can, just using the gears. If it's not icy enough to hammer on the brakes at corners, then speed the fuck up.

Then you get the idiots who think their fancy cars can handle whatever nature will throw at them and drive exactly as if it was a nice dry summer's day. They're worse.

Forecast is for more snow tomorrow. We're supposed to be going to Exile tomorrow to do some recording, don't fancy our chances of making it along those country roads. Especially coming back at 10pm when it's all frozen again.

Man up...

Warning as heavy snow bites again

Heavy snow has again returned to Aberdeen

A fresh severe weather warning has been issued for the Grampian area, with more than 150 schools closed due to the conditions in the north of Scotland.

Commuters had experienced easier travel conditions on Friday morning.

However, the Met Office later issued a severe snow warning, with drifting snow causing renewed problems.

Aberdeen Airport took the decision to close the runway on Friday afternoon due to heavy snow. Efforts were being made to clear the runway.

More than 160 schools were closed or partially closed in Aberdeenshire, Moray, Highland and Aberdeen.

Grampian Police said the B974 was closed and several roads were passable with care, including the A93 west of Crathie and the A96 Huntly to Inverurie road.

Heavy snow began falling again in Aberdeen at about 1100 GMT, and similar conditions were reported in Mintlaw.

Aberdeenshire Council advised drivers against using the A941 and B9022 due to drifting snow.

On Thursday, there were 145 schools closed in Aberdeenshire, about 60 in the Highlands, about 40 in Moray and 26 in Aberdeen. Twelve Borders schools were also closed.

There was also disruption on the railways and flights were affected in Aberdeen, Inverness and Orkney.

BTW if you're planning using Holburn Street, Albyn Place or Queens Road on your commute home aviod at all costs. It's not moving at all.

Why did Mintlaw get singled out for a special mention? There's snow all over Aberdeenshire, but we've now confirmed it's snowing in Mintlaw so we're all fucked.

Aarrrrrrrrrrrgghhhhhghhhh!!!! It's like the Day After Tomorrow!!!

It's just some fucking snow for christs sake.

Exactly - we've not had "proper" snow for what, a year, maybe two, and we've forgotten what it's like. Jee-sus.

There hasn't been proper snow in Aberdeen for at least a decade.

Well yeah. But what the folks term proper snow nowadays. Today - it snowed for about 3 hours, maybe 4 and has now stopped and it's caused absolute chaos.

Imagine it snowed for 10 days constantly. I actually think the world would end.
