SteveCrisis
For those of you who don't have kids or are far too young to remember the splendid children's TV programme "Rainbow", this may be a little lost on you...... but it must have been a great episode to watch!Almost too ridiculous to believe... These are taken from original Rainbowscripts and there's no way these could have been done by Accident. Innuendo all the way.The sketch opens with Zippy peeling a banana..... Zippy: " One skin, twoskin, three skin, four "George: " Zippy, where is Bungle?"Zippy: " I think Geoffrey is trying to get him up"We see a view of the door and hear Bungle moaning from behind it.)Bungle: " Geoffrey, I can't get it in"Geoffrey: "You managed it last night"Bungle: "I know, lets try it round the Otherway. Ooooooh, I've got it in"Bungle and Geoffrey enter the studio with Bungle carrying a hammer and peg kitBungle: " Would you stick this on the shelf, George"George: " I can't reach, you'll have to stick it up yourself,Bungle."Geoffrey (to camera) " Hello everyone, today we are talking about playing"Bungle: " Playing with each other, Geoffrey?"Geoffrey:" Yes Bungle, do you have a special friend that you like to playwith?"George:" Yesterday we played with each other's balls. Are we going to play with our friend's balls today?"Bungle: " Yes, and we can play with our twangers as well."Geoffrey (to camera) "Have you seen Bungles twanger?"Zippy: "Oh I have, I showed him how to pluck with it."Bungle: " It's my plucking instrument."(Geoffrey asks the audience if they can pluck like Bungle)Zippy:" I can, I'm the best plucker here."George; "And I'm good at banging. My peg's hard isn't it Zippy?Zippy: "Well of course it is, Your peg wouldn't go in if it was soft."Geoffrey;" Let's get back to Bungle's twanger."Bungle (excited) "Oooooh Geoffrey, we could all play with our twangerscouldn't we? Let's play the plucking song. Rod and Freddy can get theirinstruments out and Jane has got two lovely Maracas."(Singers Rod, Freddy and Jane enter.)Freddy:" We could hear you all banging away"Rod: "Banging can be fun."Jane:"Ooooh yes, and I was banging away all last night with Rod and Freddy."Freddy (looking sad) "Yes, but it broke my plucking instrument."Rod (to Jane) "Do you want to blow on my pipe while I'm twanging away?"Jane: " Oh no, I was banging away with Freddy last night. But would you like to play with my maracas?Zippy; " No, let's just pluck away with our twangers."George:" Yes, it doesn't matter what size our twanger is."Zippy;" I've got a big red one."George: " I've only got a tiny twanger. But it works well and I like to playwith it."Geoffrey (to viewers) " Well, have you got your twangers out?And remember, you can bang your balls at the same time. If you haven't got any, ask a friend if you can play with his. Now,let's all play the plucking song."Everyone in studio: " Pluck, pluck, pluck along, we're going to pluck allday." Dan G
Yeah...I haven't heard that before - and I can't watch it but that sounds like genius!I actually remember hearing the *zippy voice* "I've got a big red one!" before...So thank you for posting that cos I never saw the old thread
Aileen
When I was on holiday a few years ago in Tenerife, we went to a school disco night when they had all these random eighties/early nineties pop stars performing (Limaal [sp?] and Aswad for example) and these HUGE puppet things of Zippy and George and it was horrible, they had big puppet penises and everything - scarred me for life!!!! less_than_stu
Rainbow was ace. But I was too innocent with it.I thought George was actually a straight female, with a boy's name. It never crossed my mind that it was a guy. I mean, he sounded like a girl and everything.I always hated Bungle though. He was such a brown-nosere with Geoffrey. Sue Denim..
I was never much of a Rainbow fan. I preferred the antics of Mr Ben. Does anyone remember a really shite Childrens BBC show called "Chocky" about some diamond shaped alien thing?Or perhaps Ludwig the violin playing egg thing?Oh god, get me a life!Sue
flossie suvara
I remember Ludwig - a great example of the mad as toast british cartoon. Didn't watch chocky, but did the book (by John Wyndham who also wrote The Day of the Triffids and The Chrysalids) at school. All info on such tv masterpieces atwww.tv.cream.orgRegardsFlossie
Marillionboy
That Rainbow script was a sketch for the 1979 Thames in-house Christmas tape, and was never broadcast or intended for it.Ludwig was actually German I think, hence the completely unfathomable nature of it.. suffered in translation perhaps! morlun
I remeber watching Rainbow. But now that were all grown up and have twisted minds it is a lot different to how i remember it. oh the shame. :OThen think about Thundercats: Lion-O has the Sword Of Omens. It's not a very big thing to begin with (but as we all know, size isn't everything). He turns it on by swinging it about, and yelling "Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats, Ho!", and then it gets bigger and becomes a most powerful weapon...Make of that what you will.... Guest Jake Wifebeater
The original series of Captain Pugwash was on the dodgy side as well. With characters like Master Bate and Seaman Stains, I leave the rest to you. At least there was Cut-Throat Jake.

Do a search for rainbow and find all the threads. Thames TV used to produce a compilation video every Christmas for Staff only, consisting out-takes, mistakes, and piss-takes. This 'episode' was a deliberate piss-take purely for one of these Christmas tapes.
Marillionboy
The responses are equally old, I've said both these things too! I have all the TV Christmas tapes from the era and that Rainbow sketch is pretty feeble compared to most of the content on themI hate this lazy "oh where did kids shows get the ideas from in the 70s, they must have all been on drugs!"Er no its called imagination.
