JUKEBOX

Great jukebox! I can't wait to see those loaders fill up.

My friends and I have been committed to either make it out on a wednesday or thursday night (recently I've been managing both!) for the past couple of years. Personally, moorings is my favourite venue because its the only place I know of where the I can request such a selection of metal bands: I remember being stunned at seeing Iced Earth and Blind guardian on my first visit to the jukebox!

I'd really appreciate it if we could see some black metal on that jukebox though. A shame to see some death metal, but nothing I'd really class as black like:

For comedy effect, there's also bands like this:

Long live The Moorings!

Pirate metal band.

Flash, being into pirates and suchlike, you might like a band I've just heard called Alestorm who have just brought out an album called 'Captain Morgans' Revenge'.

The song itself is great and would make a great addition to your jukebox. (I can't get the damn pirate shanty out of my head.)

Not on topic of Jukebox but on topic of last band mentioned (I failed to find suitable thread to mention this in but then again, I didn't look very hard)

Alestorm are playing in Glasgow in what I assume is a relatively small venue (Ivory Blacks). They also played Moshulu last week with Turisas, they went down very well and a lot of people at that gig were wearing Alestorm t shirts, even before getting a chance to buy them from the merchandise stall at the gig.

Cannot think of a better venue for a pirate metal band.

Nows the chance to book them for moorings. Also book MySpace.com - Alba Gu Brth - Glasgow, UK - Folk / Metal - www.myspace.com/albagubrathmusic in support as I woudln't mind seeing them and they will support Alestorm in Glasgow. Should also book Black Atom again also as they were good t'other day.

Alestorm are playing a good few notable heavy metal festivals in the world such as Wacken, Masters of Rock, Metal Camp and Bloodstock Open Air.

They made conga lines out and back in the door when they supported Turisas in a few towns, so I heard.

Also, the last metal gig at the moorings was very well attended.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers LIVE .....

There is a George Thorogood and the Destroyers album in the jukebox, but don't think it's the live one. I really like their stuff though, do you remember they played at Live Aid. My 2 favorite songs are Bad to the Bone, and I Drink Alone. We also have an album in there called Perfectly Good Guitar by John Hiatt and you'll probably like the title track of that album although the rest of it is so-so.

I walked into the Moorings last August after moving to Aberdeen from Dumfries.

I knew the place from years ago when my daughter studied here.

As soon as I sat down with my pint of real ale on came China Pig by the Captain himself.

What a great welcome to the granite city.

Good ale. A great bar. And one of the best songs ever. IMO.

Current Jukebox Listing: 20 slots to swap out - requests please

Among the things we intend to swap in this time around are:

Courtney Love - American Sweetheart

Fields of the Nephilim - Revelations

Jet - Get Born

Sisters of Mercy - Floodland

Soil - Redefine

Young Heart Attack - Mouthful of Love

Various other jukebox stalwarts will have their albums rotated such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers, AC/DC, etc.

We intend to rotate about 20 entries in total, so we need specific suggestions on what goes in. We do not however require any input on what is removed, otherwise it will become impossible to remove anything... So please be constructive. Also take into account that we have to maintain some sort of balance, exactly where the point of balance is may drift a little over time though.

It would be useful if people could highlight niche compilations that cover a specific minority genre where there are no definitive albums as such.

Another thing we intend to do is hold over 5 slots for local bands material. AUBL are going to burn some local band compilation albums, that way we get to include the work of as many bands as possible.
