  1. Nah. Though, I did need to cool down for over a week so I didn't call you a moron and end up looking like an arsehole. Be thankful I restrained myself; else I'll conjure up my most powerful dead relatives to turn off your kettle just a second too soon, or hide that last screw you needed for your cabinet. Odin help you if you even dare walk down the 9th step of any stairs at 3.13pm on February the 29th.
  2. Heh. Teabags got pwned by the power of suggestion. N00b!
  3. Have any of you read any books written by Rob Grant after the pair split? Seems clear from reading those that he's been the real brains behind the more enlightened stuff, particularly evident in Incompetence. Even within the Red Dwarf universe, "Backwards" easily trumps "The Last Human" (written by Grant and Naylor respectively). If you haven't read anything by Rob Grant I highly recommend Incompetence and "Fat".
  4. Tell me that's not hilarious.
  5. I thought it was cute when the woman joined in and thought her opinion mattered.
  6. You're just another twat with an opinion on something you've clearly never seen/heard. I can understand it from politicians (who love publicity), but you are clearly here just to spout a brainless opinion. In short: GTFO.
  7. Oh, what I said there still stands! Did I mention that those alcohol rubs are flammable?
  8. After reading up on it some more, I'll admit my lack of understanding of hand sanitizers. From the wiki: "Alcohol rubs kill many different kinds of bacteria, including antibiotic resistant bacteria and TB bacteria. Alcohol rubs inactivate many different kinds of viruses, including the flu virus and the common cold virus. Alcohol rubs also kill fungus. Not all pathogens are equally susceptible. Certain bacteria, especially the spore-forming gram positives (e.g. Clostridium difficile) are relatively resistant and remain biologically viable. During the Anthrax attacks on the United States Postal Service, authorities warned that alcohol hand rubs would not kill anthrax spores. In environments with high lipids or protein waste (such as food processing), the use of alcohol hand rubs alone may not be sufficient to ensure proper hand hygiene."
  9. I recall watching a news piece in which a doctor was very much opposed to the use of hand sanitiser in hospitals. Something about it makes it far less effective than soap (liquid or bar) and water. Probably that most bugs are actually immune to what's in the sanitiser, but soap works by attaching to both non-polar and polar molecules and leaving them easy to rinse off, thus avoiding the need to combat the bacteria. I <3 wiki Hand sanitiser is for convenience (outdoor events where water isn't readily available) whereas soap, whilst old fashioned is beaten only by chemicals that readily degrade your own skin in the process! The water is readily available, even if it's a little slow. I shall endeavour to use the right tap from now on!
  10. For those interested; every vertebrate animal is protected by law... plus some species of octopus - it's got something to do with pain sensation. The law says you can kill them if they're a being a pest, but there must be no unnecessary suffering.
  11. You gotta admit, this guy is one hell of a troll! Not only does his first topic get 2 pages of responses, his next gets more than double that! I can't wait to see how much his next one gets!!
  12. And rational thinking is letting the "bad people" kill you? Are you honestly suggesting that these people can be reasoned with? What is your own solution? To quote H.G.Wells: "Fanatics are madmen who find a masochistic pleasure in strangling their own doubts, there is no dealing with them". Read his book "The Outlook for Homo Sapiens". It's at least 65 years old (1942 infact), but as relevant today as it was then. Tbh, this very fact makes it all the more depressing. And stripey, you are taking the view that if I agree with Hitchens on anything then I must agree with him on everything. This is simply not the case, and you make yourself look stupid by suggesting it. Are you intentionally trying to misunderstand me to strengthen your own position? I still believe the Iraq War was handled badly (as does Hitchens, btw). But I also believe that Saddam should have been dealt with long ago... (as does Hitchens...). That said, Saddam was only a minor player in a much bigger game. I could go on, but there's alot of detail to get into and from what I've experienced here I doubt those arguing with me will read it anyhow (or at least not without trying to misinterpret something). Volker Pispers sums the Middle East situation up very nicely (ABOVE), and with a healthy dose of humour. If even one person on these forums makes their way through all 5 parts of his routine then I'll have considered this exchange worthwhile.
  13. Surely only people who have read the book should be commenting in this thread? Hitchens delivers a strong argument for his case in this book, and if you reject it on the basis that you don't agree with the guy on another matter then you can hardly be considered an objective person... Originally I too disagreed with hitchens on the iraq war, but his case is certainly compelling and it would be wrong to ignore the points he makes. Though I can't say I support his view today, I will say that his logic has persuaded me on some aspects of it. I would say you suffer from a case of selective reading, Stripey, and I would urge you to read and view Hitchen's ENTIRE view on issues (not just iraq). Judging by your previous posts you seem a reasonable person and it would be a shame to see you misguided by an initial dislike of the man's approach and therefore blind yourself the arguments of such a rational thinker. Look the man up on youtube, he has a persuasive argument to make on any subject - regardless of whether you agree with it. Better to defeat an argument than ignore it. Thank you, Time-bomb.
  14. I dunno about you lot, but hearing that only 1 out of 6 of our kebab houses are unsanitary came as a great surprise to me. Either the regulations on sanitation are very lax or we've got an industry to be extremely proud of! Should the latter be true I propose we picket until they release these unsung heroes back into our gracious community! Immigrants FTW!
  15. Absolutely. The only thing that kept me out drinking these past few years has been the knowledge that I can turn round and say "Screw you guys! I'm heading to The Moorings!". It's that little lifeline and centre of Aberdeen nightlife that saved me and several of my friends from hermit-ism and depression. Though I've found myself studying in Glasgow now, The Moorings remains the venue that I compare all others against - and the one that I head to the moment the holidays come about! We owe you guys at The Moorings much! Keep up the brilliant work. ((Btw, anyone know the location of a venue on the north side of Glasgow similar to The Moorings? o_O ))
  16. Great jukebox! I can't wait to see those loaders fill up. My friends and I have been committed to either make it out on a wednesday or thursday night (recently I've been managing both!) for the past couple of years. Personally, moorings is my favourite venue because its the only place I know of where the I can request such a selection of metal bands: I remember being stunned at seeing Iced Earth and Blind guardian on my first visit to the jukebox! I'd really appreciate it if we could see some black metal on that jukebox though. A shame to see some death metal, but nothing I'd really class as black like: www.myspace.com/immortalofficial www.myspace.com/mayhemtrue www.myspace.com/bathoryquorthon www.myspace.com/officialcrypticwintermoon For comedy effect, there's also bands like this: Long live The Moorings!
