Best Cowbell Moment in Rock History

Recommended Posts

Ahh cowbell. Good at the start of a song, good in the bridge. Why is it so cool?

I hereby nominate the intro to Stone Free (Jimi Hendrix) as the best cowbell moment of all time.

16 Shells From A Thirty Ought Six by Tom Waits. Or Little Sister by Queens Of The Stone Age.

Inspired and one of my all time fave tunes. I suspect though that these are random bits of metal and car engine bits that are being walloped... For argument sake 'cowbell'

'The New Black' - ETiD. Yeah, so what if they use it every track on that album, it's fucking class right before the chorus.

Could be. But the changes in the metallic tone heard on the song can be well represented by a cowbell being hit at different points along it's length - I know, it was one of my first perseverences while trying to learn drums :D

I think I will also take the opportunity to mention Crass' Big A Little A which features random metallic noises at the end, most likely to be pots and pans

Definately, it was fucking awesome when they did it live and Keith Buckley picked up the cowbell and just started clanging away like there was no tomoro :p

No no no.... it has to be the Saturday Night Live take on Blue Oyster Cult

"I got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell."

Excellent, but in terms of "real" cowbell action I would have to go with Jammer on The Stones and Tone Loc.

The SNL one is brilliant but I'd go with Yeah (Crass Version) by LCD Soundsystem' date=' in fact a lot of LCD Soundsystem tracks have great use of cowbell but thats my favourite![/quote']

That would explain the Rapture's use of it.
