Your favourite city

I think that Aberdeen gets a pretty bad deal from the people who live here' date=' I'm constantly hearing people harp on about how shit a city it is and how they want to leave. If you go down and sit on the beach at about 5am you really appreciate how nice it can be.[/quote']

During my brief time in London I really missed Aberdeen. I missed actually knowing people when you walk down the street (meeting Peaches Geldof in Topshop, Oxford Circus doesn't count.)

Aberdeen can be nice, but at the end of the day, it's still grey and dull and full of old people moaning about things (woah, stereotype much). I couldn't bear to spend my whole life here, it's fine for now, but the prospect of leaving excites me greatly!

There's no way I could chose one : everywhere has it's pros and cons.

Dublin : For just the fantastic atmosphere and general happiness of the place. And perhaps also the fact that pubs are open all day, every day, with live music and guiness on draught. The airport (a vital part of the city) is just fucking awesome thanks to ryanair providing decent flights to just about anywhere in Europe. However, smoking has been banned in public places and everything is highly expensive.

Melbourne, Australia : Fast becoming the 'new Sydney' (less tourists), Melbourne is one of the most whismical places in the world. Cheap as fuck, the people too nice for their own good, fantasic FREE public transport and has a great mix of architecture from the old and new. The city is best a night (walk along the Yarra River) where the art students and street entertainers continue into the twilight zone...and jesus, the Crown Casino.

Amsterdam : I guess everyone's got their own reasons (smoking and hooring) but there is a whole other side to Amsterdam. They've got a nice lifestyle, with the bikes and all, the best streetside cafes (I'm talking about food here!) and the Amber Nectar is in a leage of its own. Also in Amsterdam is my favourite restaurant by far. The Luxemburg Cafe is just of Dam Square, and if you're a fan of the 1920's, its the shit.

SHitting Hell, I've just wrote a bloody guidebook.

I've never been out of the UK but Leeds is fucking awesome. It has Out of Step records, the best punk record shop I'm aware of in the UK, tons of other cool shops, loads of amazing bands (The Mingers, Dead Pets, Beecher, Send More Paramedics, Shotgun Democracy, Skinnyman, The Dregs, Red Stars Parade, The Dauntless Elite, Mama Scuba...I could carry on for ages), good gigs every night and Headingley cricket ground.

York is a really lovely place too. I might say York instead.

Paris lovers! Any great recommendations on places to go?

I would have to say that Monmatre is my favourite part of Paris. The best thing to do is take the metro to Lamarck-Caulincourt and see the back end of Monmatre;which is much less touristy and actually serene. For a bit of fun; go to the Place Marcel Aym and see the statue of the passe-muraille. Then wind your way through Monmatre through the rue Saint Vincent where you can see some wineyards; not what you would expect in Paris; before going to the Sacr-Coeur; have a photo session on the steps and then get down by the Ameli Parc. As long as you stay as far from the tourists as possible; Montmatre is pure delight! In fact...I was there today[gloats!] And I agree: Sainte Chapelle is certainly worth a visit; as is the Jardin des Tuilleries and the Jardin du Luxembourg is a great place for a walk too. Despite the fact I now live in Paris; Im still kind of a tourist so I havent unearthed any real 'finds' in terms of restaurants etc., however I have a bit of time so we'll see... :)

And for Paris too; you have to go to Paris Plage; mind you; you'd be blind to miss it! It's a very surreal experience with famillies munching picnics next to sun-worsippers in next to nothing; even though the beach is only about 6 foot wide! In the square in front of the Hotel de Ville you can play volleyball with random Parisians; which looked fairly fun. If you fancy doing something a bit different though; there's the open air cinema at the Parc de la Villette; and the best thing is, it's free!

I'll join the crowd and say Paris too, it's the most wonderful place I've ever been. Every minute of being there is just spectacular. Plus, wine with breakfast, lunch and dinner is always a good point! If you go to Montmartre, you'll never want to leave.

I still have to see Kiev (Ukraine) and Moscow. They'll definitely be my favourites when I finally get there. Which is next year, so I can't complain.

Well said!

Monmatre is quality. Its a little bit of a walk up the steep hill but the Church is amazing inside. There is also a square packed full of artists who do caricatures and also some very nice cityscapes. The Dali Museum is up there too. You have to see it! Check out the cool pics of Dali in various poses, utilising his moustache to full effect

I'd say Paris for the reasons everyone else has given. It's just a nice place.

I love Edinburgh. It's so near, but so differen't from here. Princes Street Gardens, Scott Monument and Edinburgh Castle all in your eyeline is something I recommend to every person on this earth. It's a well laid out city, and one which for some reason I've never been able to get lost in. And everyone is so nice. It's cool at nights too, I guess it's so filled with tourists and holiday makers that there isn't that much trouble. I don't know if I could live there though, I might get a bit too used to the place and it would lose its appeal.

For living, I would quite like to live in London, but Glasgow wins it for me. I get such a buzz whenever I'm there. So many shops. The grid system of central Glasgow is perfect for wondering in and out of, you discover new places all the time and it makes it very difficult to get lost. The flat I'm about to move in to has everything I'll ever need right beside it, with no need to even go into town for anything. The home of King Tut's, the greatest establishment in the country. The only downside is the ridiculous parking prices in the city, but at a rate of about 20 taxis flying past per minute, there is no need to drive. And the public transport is excellent.

St Tropez is cool too.

My brother stayed in Monte Carlo for a while and said thats a great place to live. Where else... Barcelona was nice.

But alas, nothing will beat Paris.

Hey, I sent you a PM saying you were logged into one of the PCs, didn't realise you were in Munich right now, are you still here? Wow.. what a coincidence.

Doesn't it rock though  Did you go to the Irish pub on Frauenplatz?

My favourite city so far is Prague, but I only stayed there for three days, two years ago. But I'm going back tomorrow!

Perth, Western Australia. It's a beautiful modern city. Tangiers comes a close second because the medina is such a crazy place to explore.

Besides, they aren't THAT polluted (well, most of them, I should say).

I like Stavanger, it's clean and modern and efficient but has lots of old character too and a lovely, non-sinister harbour selling nice seafood. It's right next to the fjords too. Trondheim is also lovely. I like Copenhagan too, even though it has heaps of graffiti, it somehow just adds to the character. I like Scandanavia.
