Aileen
i apologise in advance to those of you who i may have already ranted to about this last night but i just thought this was really fucking lamewhat is with the attitudes of people who go to gigs in aberdeen? they will pile down in front of the stage for their mate's band or local bands that theyve seen a hundred times before and then bugger off up the back when touring bands come on. locals bands know they have solid fanbases in aberdeen so surely the touring bands needs just as much if not more support. do people even go to gigs cos they like music or is it just for scenester credibility?? its a fuckin disgrace! boom in the diamond industry were absolutely outstanding last night at moshulu and at most there were about fifteen people on the floor for them.....weapon and contra had huge crowds.....surely theres something wrong there! dont get me wrong, im not saying that local bands dont need the support, but i imagine if i was in a band id be pretty miffed to play to a tiny audience when id already seen that there were plenty of folk there for the local bands!anyway, i just wanted to bring that up cos it was pretty crap that people couldnt make the effort. Guest Ewan SSR
But, to be fair, maybe everyone that was up the back for Boom didn't like them or their music. It's not as bad as it seems.
Guest allsystemsfail
I don't understand it either. Folks go see a show, then once they've caught the local support, leave. Yes, leave. I've seen it happen so so many times. You think a touring act is gonna come back when this kinda thing happens? I like to give this example. antimaniax (from Austria) played a show here at Kev last year. A lotta folks were there. However, once the three local supports had done their thing, pretty much everyone left. I just don't get it, and it happens time and time again. Used to see it happen on a regular basis at Drakes (then still in the Castlegate).

kirkt
yeah well said Aileen...theirs too many scene-sters in Aberdeen and it pisses me off cos ive seen so many good bands playing to hardly anyone here...
Guest scott cs.
now that i'm seeing it from being in a band perspective, it would be dishearteing to play infront of a small crowd. i guess we got lucky on Thursday night. i always do my best to be at gigs from when doors open till the last band plays, theirs not much point in paying the entry fee just to see one or two bands unless its a band you really want to see. MMW were the only band on the bill last night that i had seen before, i knew that i enjoyed their performances and didnt know what to expect from the other bands, some i liked some i didnt, but i stayed the whole night regardless

Camie
moshulu is big though and people could hear and see them from where they were standing.
Aileen
i shall do so right now for you sir!!yeah camie, but that was the case for every band so if people were gonna make the effort for one, why not all. youre right, moshulu is a big place, so imagine performing to people half way across the room, not exactly welcoming is it
Chris
from a stage you can't really see the back of the room. if everyone's standing up the back it seems like you are playing to no-one. It's hard for a band to give their all if the only thing they can see is a great big empty space in front of them.
Emma
yeah, i was talking to someone about that last night. I was stood watching Boom and Douglas, and the crowd was very tiny, there was a lot of people there last night, but i agree, if you go to gigs for the music, why not watch the band? If you go for the banter, why pay to go into a gig?
Princess
That's a load of crap. That's like saying that if you want to talk to people while your out you shouldn't come to a gig. I agree fully that you shouldn't leave just because your friends band has finished playing tho.
*Amy*
I like to give this example. antimaniax (from Austria) played a show here at Kev last year. A lotta folks were there. However' date=' once the three local supports had done their thing, pretty much everyone left. I just don't get it, and it happens time and time again. Used to see it happen on a regular basis at Drakes (then still in the Castlegate).[/quote']Oh god, I think I love you!I was a fellow stayer! They absolutey owned that night, and if I can remember right (don't quote me on it), Alyssa's Wish were playing at the Lemon Tree, so there were about 15 people left after the support had played. That was the worst I've seen for people leaving and it sucked so much. Antimaniax played a blinder of a set, yet there was one single man dancing in the middle of the floor... I felt so sorry for them having come all this way and watch the crowd disappear. I was embarrassed to be an Aberdeen gig-goer then. Everyone that left totally missed out, and thanks to them, I doubt the band will be in a hurry to come back. I have 'As Long As People Think' and 'I'm Without Sleep in this Desert of Concrete' dowloaded, but I feel bad so I'm gonna buy them both soon! Dallas
If I have gone to a gig and paid for it I will be staying till the end or till my train. As if I pay over a fiver to get into town I am not just going into see one band.
sludge
this may sound pretty shit but i dont care.ive cut down the amount of gigs i go to, not because of the bands but because of the whole popularity contest. i generally avoid most gigs now that i know the same faces are there. ill admit ive been dragged into it in the past but jesus christ, if people are going to a gig to socialise MORE than to see a band then theres something seriously up. i think generally i get along with the older crowd alot better. i just feel un easy and dont really think ive got alot in common with some people anymore.shoot me down if you like. care not.anyone else get the same feeling? Guest ForbiddenFruitcake
this is a thing that can bother me from time to time. i always feel thats its more embarrassing than anything when a touring band comes to play up here and everyone fucks off after the local support, its rude and really not right. i understand completely if you don't particularly like the band after giving them a listen and would rather talk to some friends, i often do that, but its the ones that just leave without giving the band a chance which bother me. that said, you have to consider the fact that at drakes, where the main band often isn't on till after 11 that its hard to stick around, as most people's last buses are at 11ish, mine included, and i have missed some bands i would have loved to see because of this. (taxis aren't an option living 17 miles away really)
Camie
i agree with sludge here. Ive noticed too that there is a certain group of people that try and get noticed all the time. Its very annoying but what can you do. Even mroe annoying is that I get all the blame for doing that when the only thing I am guilty of posting heaps on hear and going to heaps of gigs.On the whole leaving early thing it is shit when that happens but everyone has a reason. To counter the people who have last buses to catch gigs should be made to start earlier. It really depends on the target audience though. Guest user
Having read through this thread I have to ask, why be in a band if you can't stand critiscism in all it's glorious forms. What if people leave after their mates band performs, you can't do anything about it. People don't want to go out and listen to bands which, most of the time sound almost exactly alike, they want to go out and be entertained by a band with a good stage routine or bands which their friends are in. As is the case nowadays most bands in Aberdeen do sound almost exactly alike and most if not all have rather disinteresting stage performances and dark lyrics. Guest Stripey
Maybe the aberdeen music scene is just fucking bullshit.
medichi
Maybe. I dunno, it's just the way things are - mates go see mates bands, and usually don't give a fuck about the music. That's how it is. Stick the touring act in the middle, if they have a low profile, and they'll probably play to a few more people..... Guest Stripey
The "scene" is just a joke, its a bunch of schoolkids with zero taste in music, and this upsets me.
