Alkaline
I've watched quite a few films this week:2001 Maniacs- Terrible. Absolutely pant-wettingly terrible. It was basically soft-core porn with blood and guts. Story was a joke. "Special" effects were even more so.10,000 BC- If you can get past the fact that this is likely to be one of the most historically inaccurate films you'll ever see, it is actually quite an enjoyable film. The pace of the film lets it down a little as well but that is more than made up for with the visual aspects of the cinematography. Whoever decided that they should intensify the blue of Camilla Belle's eyes is an absolute genius. Rush Hour 3 - I've never been a massive fan of any of the Rush Hour films but i'd seen the first two so i thought i'd give the 3rd a spin. To say it was boring with a run-time of as little as 1hr 30mins would be an understatement. It just seemed to go from "witty" dialogue to set-piece martial arts segment endlessly. What little story there was ended up being masked by the general buffoonery of Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan pricking around in Paris. Blah.Underworld: Rise of the Lycans- I love the other 2 Underworld films but as Kate Beckinsale (who i love in all manner of ways) wasn't in it (as such) i was very skeptical as to how it would hold together. Her replacement (and forerunner in the story arc), Rhona Mitra, was more than adequate looks-wise but didn't really set the screen alight with her performance. As ever Bill Nighy was splendid as an overly camp yet sinister Viktor and Michael Sheen delivers a pretty good performance as Lucien as well. Overall the film itself was really just eye-candy laden filler and backstory that didn't really push all my buttons but nevertheless was enjoyable enough.Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist- Another Indie flick in the same vein as Juno that was well paced and acted but hellishly short. I wanted it to last a little longer and get more of a feel for the characters. The story was typical: boy and girl meet, chemistry, boy and girl very nearly get together, boy and girl fall out, ex's create merry havoc, boy gets girl. Some of the dialogue was cracking, some very cliched. The gay bandmates and the ludicrously named Lothario were pretty hilarious though and the Indie heavy soundtrack was well suited to the films pace and feel. A very enjoyable watch, but i wanted more. The Devil Wears Prada- Seen it before but i like Anne Hathaway and i was bored. Quite an easy watch and a no-brainer. Chris
Watched Tropic Thunder last night. Mostly excellent, with some hilarious set pieces but I thought they should have spent a bit longer introducing the characters before throwing them in the jungle. Looking through some of the extras it seems there was a lot of that stuff cut from the film.
Diesel
Rock n' Rolla - Meh. Guy Ritchie retreads Snatch and Lock Stock..... Likeable rogues caught up in a bigger plan, characters with catchy names, mucho violence, serpentine plot with mucho coincidences. Enough already Guy.Frost/Nixon - Excellent. Frank Langella plays Nixon sympathetically and his droll (and sometimes unconscious humour) is brilliant. Top Marks.Moonraker - Utter bobbins. One of the weakest Bonds ever. Has a bit of a straight-to-video, cheap production vibe and some of the acting is a bit gash but it's actually really watchable and I kinda liked the ending. I can imagine bouncers seeing it as their 'Rocky'.
Lemonade
Elizabethtown. Very slow, but the ending is quite good. I can't see the fascination with Orlando Bloom at all. Legolas aside, he's a very average actor with virtually no screen presence whatsoever. It's like watching a microphone stand trying to act. I just find him incredibly dull to watch.Happy-Go-Lucky. Featuring possibly the most annoying lead character in the history of cinema. It's a pleasant enough story, but most of the characters are just completely unlikeable, so it's hard to get that in to the story.
ca_gere
Also watched Changeling and Wall-E on my new HD projector screen. After I stopped wetting myself over the novelty of having a 150 inch screen in my room, I really enjoyed both films. Wall-E is an animated masterpiece. I can't normally get into anything that is not 'real' (as vague as that sounds... as soon as I'm meant to dispend belief I lose interest) but I was gripped. Changeling is a solid effort all round boosted by the presence of the Malk. Read a good quote in an interview with a Hollywood marketing exec the other day who said that "...if marketing didn't exist, John Malkovich would be in every film." i.e. They have to churn out rubbish to make bucks and proper acting doesn't sell. Shame.
Johnny Mac
I watched RoboCop 1 and 2 last night. The first film is awesome (bar the now dated special effects). The scene where Murphy gets blown to pieces is still pretty mental. And Clarence Bodicher is still a bad ass.The second one is a little ropey..... and the new 'RoboCop mark 2 drug dealer super robot' looks fucking terrible. I have to watch the 3rd one tonight.... I remember it being horrific..... I doubt time will have been kind.
Lemonade
Is it the second or third one the one with the Nuke? That one sucks. The one with the little girl with the laptop is fucking horrible as well. In fact both the sequels blew ducks. The bit in the first one where he falls in the toxic waste then gets obliterated by a car - kablamo! Fantastic! Can you fly Bobby?Remake coming this year. Lemonade
I'm fed up of remakes!!!!!!!!!!!!! No more.............Tell that to Michael fucking Bay.... it's him that started the Platinum Dunes film company, who's resum so far is:The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) *The Amityville Horror (2005) *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) The Hitcher (2007) *The Unborn (2009) The Horsemen (2009) Friday the 13th (2009) * A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) * The Birds (2010) ** 6 remakes out of 9 films. And one prequel to a remake. Talk about lack of imagination.

Lemonade
WTF?!?!? Remaking Nightmare on Elm Street. These people must be stopped!Fetch me musket!!!!I know. What's wrong with just making another sequel? Why do they have to start all over again? It's rotten. Also allegedly Robert Englund is going to be in it, but he isn't playing Freddy! I mean WTFF?I'll probably still go to see it like, since I'm a fanboy. I've got the box set of all 7 of the other ones, there's some stinkers in there... the first one was good, but then they sucked all the way up to New Nightmare, which is hugely under-rated. tv tanned
There's such a lack of originality out there, I can think of only a couple of remakes I have watched in my time, and I don't think I have come across any where I have thought they were really good. The new Batman stuff doesn't count as a remake, more a reimagining. There should be a law against remaking certain films. If someone wanted to "reimagine" Jurassic Park so that it was more like the kickass novel and less like the sugar-coated-kiddy-friendly movie I would happily endorse that! DJ Jo-D
Also allegedly Robert Englund is going to be in it, but he isn't playing Freddy! I mean WTFF?.it'll never be near as good with out R.E. in it....plus when they remake they will loose all the comedy from the originalI have watched quite a few remakes, mainly the ones which were tartan asian originally the original being the better of course! ca_gere
Any rehashing of a bankable franchise is shit in my opinion. That includes Batman. There's nothing new nowadays, just needless reworkings of stuff that's come before. It extends to most other cultural products too. e.g. when was the last 'original' stage musical? it's all abba this, queen that. (tenuous link but was just thinking bout it)

However I did quite like My Bloody Valentine 3D and I am going to see Friday 13th on Friday 13th - also rumoured to be available in 3D - not sure this is true tho...I was a big Fri 13th fan as younger and interested to see what he's done to itWhat form of Killings is preferred?? something imaginative! How about fish hooking his left eyeball and attaching to a bungee cord and then to the back of a pickup, along on top of a combination of barbed wire, Piranhas, used needles and bear traps.....this could be and effective way of slowing him down anyway
