futureheads don't rip off gang of four, they quite clearly want to be the jam.

my faves this year are:

bloc party - silent alarm

magnolia electric company - what comes after the blues

silver mt zion - horses in the sky

QOTSA - lullabies to paralyse

and that futureheads album i guess.

not bought much this year. though the new pelican album will be splendid.

Exactly! I keep hearing people calling Bloc Party or the Futureheads "totally original". They're both just a direct Gang of Four rip-off' date=' if they re-recorded 'Damaged Goods' by Gang of Four, no-one would bat an eyelid and it would be hailed as their best song.

Revolting.[/quote']

The Futureheads maybe, but Bloc Party are far from a Gang of Four rip-off, they have a far more varied sound it's just that they use angular guitars as a base for it.

In no order:

American Head Charge - The Feeding

Electric Six - Senor Smoke

Daft Punk - Human After All

Audioslave - Out Of Exile

Weezer - Make Believe

Turbonegro - Party Animals

Paradise Lost - Paradise Lost

Hondo Mclean - Unspoken Dialect

Garbage - Bleed Like Me

General Patton Vs The Executioners - Joint Special Operations Task Force

Still have to buy Foo Fighters, and just got the Nine Inch Nails album, so perhaps they will be added by the end of the year, along with the new Devildriver and Billy Corgan albums.

Futureheads - whatever the fuck its called - should be called - yet another attempt to rip off XTC/Gang of Four done really shit by wankers (only bought it on a recommendation - never again!!!)

Still a fine album in my opinion' date=' if they are going to be influenced by anyone then Gang of Four and XTC is not a bad place to start. If it's not your bag then fair enough, but if we start picking off every new group who have drawn strong influences from 70s/80s/90s bands then we won't be left with much. It's definitely a better album than the Bravery/Kaiser/Others efforts from the same NMEite stable.

I'm listening to it now:- [i']This is a brand new problem... :p

I've not bought many albums this year, or at least not ones that were newly released this year, mainly due to having fuck all money for 6 months. However, the three stand out albums I've bought this year are:

Fantmas - Suspended Animation

Queen Adreena - The Butcher And The Butterfly

Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth

New Order and Idlewild's new ones are good, but not in the same league as the above three. Apart from the Morrissey Earls Court album (which doesn't count), I can't think of any other 2005 albums I've bought, so if I have they've not made much of an impression on me.

Napalm Death: The Code Is Red, Long Live The Code (thats about the only album from this year I own.)

New Order's new album is pretty cool too though.

Garbage - Bleed Like Me

Tegan And Sara - So Jelous

Still yet to buy 'With Teeth', 'Mesmerize' and 'In Your Honour' but expect they will be on the list.
