Larsen B
Exactly! I keep hearing people calling Bloc Party or the Futureheads "totally original". They're both just a direct Gang of Four rip-off' date=' if they re-recorded 'Damaged Goods' by Gang of Four, no-one would bat an eyelid and it would be hailed as their best song.Revolting.[/quote']The Futureheads maybe, but Bloc Party are far from a Gang of Four rip-off, they have a far more varied sound it's just that they use angular guitars as a base for it. Swingin' Ryan
I'm eagerly awaiting the new Goldfrapp album in August, on the strength of the new single I'd be amazed if it's not my album of the year.

Still a fine album in my opinion' date=' if they are going to be influenced by anyone then Gang of Four and XTC is not a bad place to start. If it's not your bag then fair enough, but if we start picking off every new group who have drawn strong influences from 70s/80s/90s bands then we won't be left with much. It's definitely a better album than the Bravery/Kaiser/Others efforts from the same NMEite stable.I'm listening to it now:- [i']This is a brand new problem... HummerOfIntenseEvil
I've not bought many albums this year, or at least not ones that were newly released this year, mainly due to having fuck all money for 6 months. However, the three stand out albums I've bought this year are:Fantmas - Suspended AnimationQueen Adreena - The Butcher And The ButterflyNine Inch Nails - With TeethNew Order and Idlewild's new ones are good, but not in the same league as the above three. Apart from the Morrissey Earls Court album (which doesn't count), I can't think of any other 2005 albums I've bought, so if I have they've not made much of an impression on me.
