  1. I wasn't looking for any moral equivalent, I was making a jest. A bad one I guess.
  2. Im going to read this when i get home later, i sense it is of another time, when this website was fun....
  3. ..."lets guess who'll die this year and get points for it so I can make a spreadsheet" was what Lucky Rathen was thinking.
  4. I don't believe anyone on this thread has in any way condoned the messages this lady received. What the article doesn't make clear is whether she took it to any authorities in a real effort to try and rid the net of people who can get away with this sort of thing. To me it kind of reads like she posted a "please stop posting this sort of thing" message and then became somehow shocked that in amongst the supportive messages she received even more abusive crap. The sort of people who have the moral compass that allows them to post threats of rape, whether serious, 'jokey' or as an effort to impress someone are extremely unlikely to take any notice. Of course it is admirable she has highlighted it, but given the papers are full of daily reports of kids killing themselves after being bullied online, was anyone really unaware of the sort of vile crap that goes on and the need for real implementation of the laws Neepheid speaks of, regardless of the nature of the abuse. My problem with the article is that she seems to just concede the action to other folk.
  5. Don't forget the sexist LADZ banter. Maybe thats OK if its 'ironic'.
  6. No, you are taking everything too literally, what I am saying is that at present I feel it is better to ignore a bunch of idiots rather than feed their kicks. It may rankle to keep schtum but to react is to help their game. As was mentioned above, hopefully there will be real measures put in place to stem the tide. Its not just confined to women in the music industry, I have seen some pretty hateful shit flying about.
  7. PiL - Plastic Box. 4 CD collection that features almost whole albums (meaning you still need the original albums), singles mixes and radio sessions. I already have most of the material but the rarer stuff was worth getting at the low price. I like it but I find some value in all PiL incarnations. 8/10, because of the weird method of track inclusion Tindersticks - San Sebastien 2012 Caught up with their last album 'The Something Rain', bought the 2 disc version which included this live album, all versions of songs from the studio album. Really good. If you like Tindersticks, I guess. 9/10
  8. The internet removed the need for weirdos to send boxes of bizarre shit to folk in bands that would get intercepted by their minions once they reached a certain point. If they are going to make a stance on personally answering messages on FB then they either need to get thicker skinned and ignore the drivel or let someone filter then answer the genuine fan contact. While its quite right to say that it shouldnt happen there are always going to be the element who will never believe they are doing anything wrong and these are probably now outnumbered by those who are now aware she gets pissed off by it and will just do it to annoy her.
  9. She waved a red flag at the bull there, sad to say. Downside of the internet is the opportunity for fannies to act like fannies without any real repercussions for themselves. Sometimes it is indeed better to not feed the trolls.
  10. I cant say I recall any of these having the same superior attitude....apart from goths, they could seem a bit snooty but I just took that to be more an air of caution because they were the most comical subculture.
  11. Ha, but mine is not through any choice, I just find it odd that a group of people who wish to be elitist choose to look the same. I probably just don't understand because Im an old bald fuck.
  12. I still haven't been to the pub, primarily because I'm a big jess who can only take a few real ales so I tend to just drink the odd bottle in the house. Good on them for trying to keep up momentum I say. The NE hates when folk grow out of their roots. Actually that may be a British thing in general.... Hipsters - why do they all want to look the same? That short back and sides hair cut? I don't get it....
  13. Reminds me of TFI Friday...."I'm a fat David Cameron"
  14. Ach, Mumford and Sons are one of those bands that just aren't on my radar personally but are essentially harmless. Just seem like posh boys scruffing it up a bit. There is no point moaning about people listening to them rather than 'real' folk music, it is a take on folk styled music designed to have mass appeal and a lot of folk who listen to them probably only ever buy what they can get in the Asda music section (which isn't always a bad thing, I have bought the latest Queens of the Stone Age, Goldfrapp and Black Sabbath albums there) and would find 'real' folk music unlistenable. Kind of like when I worked offshore with a guy who claimed to be into country music but was aghast when I played Johnny Cash 'Live at San Quentin'. His take on country music was fucking 'Crocodile Shoes'. The best you can ever hope for is that people listen to them and then become interested in where that style of music originates....but the few Mumford songs I have heard, I cant say 'sad' was the first adjective that sprung to mind.
  15. Get her watching something vic and bob orientated that'll confuse the shit out of her
  16. Lots of Tindersticks. I bought their albums religiously but after they kind of broke up in the mid-00's I kind of lost sight of them and have persistently failed to keep track of them. So i just bought the last 2 albums plus the box set of film music they did for Clair Denis, which i was aware of but have been waiting to catch at a decent price since i owned the individual releases of 'Nenette Et Boni' and 'Trouble Every Day' already.
  17. I believe RM can be funny about where their responsibility ends but in this case they claim for tracking to end delivery so I think they need to take responsibility...we shall see...
  18. I can kind of understand the photo in the situation where a baby was at full term and sadly didn't survive, for the point of having some sort of memory, I certainly wouldn't judge people for their decision on how to react to such a terrible occurrence in their life but at the same time there are some things that should just be kept away from Facebook. That being one.
  19. Hmmm, its a tricky one and depending on what side of the fence you are on the view is conflicting but I do honestly feel that when a signature is obtained the delivery company should be liable to provide info on who signed to the buyer, i.e. a card stating which address signed. Of course you could end up with someone denying all knowledge but then you could get police involved. This is where sometimes the convenience of companies being able to leave with neighbours and have someone else sign can be worse than having to go collect from a depot. If a seller elects to send with no signing requirement then I think its quite right they are left open to it going missing but I think its wrong to be penalised for taking the extra steps and being the one to carry the can. I think I will see how it pans out but i'm reluctant to refund based on just being told it hasn't arrived, for all I know the guy could have signed for it himself and tried it on hoping I was gullible. But if he is getting nowhere I will tackle our illustrious Royal Mail and try and get compensation to allow a refund to seem more palatable. Even though he could end up with a free watch.
  20. Did you investigate the signing bit, as in did the company give any explanation as to where they obtained it?
  21. I sold a watch online to a guy in Poland (really Poland, not the Irish, American or Spanish variants). I posted it via international Signed For delivery and gave him the tracking number. He popped up on e mail last night claiming he knew it had arrived in Poland on 25th September but he hadn't received it, questioned the address I sent it to, etc. When I looked up the tracking it said it had been delivered and signed for on the 25th and I clarified the address was correct as he sent it. I pointed this out and he came back saying obviously he hadn't signed for it and what to do? Has anyone had any similar experience and how was it resolved? I have sent him a link to the Royal Mail site where it mentions obtaining a copy of the signature scan and while I do sympathise with him i am inclined to think I have fulfilled my obligation and he really has to pursue it with his local postal service as to where they delivered and obtained a signature from. If he comes back again I may contact Royal Mail but I have a feeling they will just say if it was signed for they are clear.
