  1. I think their first 2 albums are quite good, certainly worth getting if you like Creep. People dismiss them as Grunge also-rans but some of their songs stand up pretty well.
  2. If you watch the extras on the recent Sex Pistols concert DVD Therell Always Be An England, John Lydon can be seen chatting to 2 young black gentlemen outside the Arsenal stadium and discussing his Finsbury Park youth and how multicultural it was with no hint of disgust. Given his long standing love of reggae I find it laughable to hear that he somehow triggered this so-called racist assault. And who exactly knows what Gruff Rhys supposedly witnessed did he hear what was said or only witness the violence? Lydons main gripe seems to be how unrecognisable London is from what he knew as a youth. Its a loss of British identity thing by an excess of foreign culture taking over rather than an actual dislike of immigrants. He also had a rather strong view on buildings such as The Gherkin and their overall effect on the London landscape. I hope no architects get chinned in his presence, hell get blamed for that as well.
  3. I watch so many films just 10 is a struggle but off the top of my head and in no particular order 1. Jaws - A favourite since my youth and still revisited frequently, just a great story and performances. It doesnt even matter how crap the shark is. 2. For A Few Dollars More I love all 3 Dollars films but this is the best for me, more satisfying than A Fistful of Dollars but less long-winded than The Good The Bad and The Ugly. 3. Wild at Heart My favourite Lynch film, although I like most of his stuff. A great cast (especially Willem Dafoe as Bobby Peru, and Nicolas Cages best performance), great music and a reasonably coherent story for once. Sometimes its nice to understand what the hell is happening. 4. The Big Lebowski Again I like most Cohen brothers films but I think this is the strongest, very amusing and loads of great lines. Just edges out Millers Crossing though. 5. Casino Much as I love Goodfellas and as much as this film is dismissed as a pale retread of it, I currently find this the better film. 6. Rumblefish Even though Matt Dillon is typically wooden (he definitely got a bit better with age) this is a great film, nice style and a key example of how good Mickey Rourke was pre-boxing and melty face. 7. Suspiria Dario Argentos best film, brilliant use of colour and really needs to be watched in the dark and at a decent volume to get the most out of it. 8. Slingblade It amazes me how many people havent seen this. Anyone Ive insisted watch it tend to love it. 9. Requiem For A Dream Great soundtrack and very stylishly filmed. Jared Leto showed so much promise and yet ended up in a pish band. I also enjoyed The Fountain but this is much better. 10. Dead Mans Shoes Amazing performance by Paddy Considine.
  4. Im clueless for method of cutting and pasting my I Tunes screen and I cant access at the moment but apparently my Top 25 as taken from my I Pod is 1. McLusky ~ What Weve Learned 7. The Fall ~ Sparta 2XX 8. The Jesus Lizard ~ Horse 9. McLusky ~ Dethink To Survive 10. The National ~ Lit Up 11. April March ~ Chick Habit 12. The Brian Jonestown Massacre ~ You Look Great When Im F**ked Up 13. Dirty Three ~ I Offered It Up To The Stars And Night Sky 14. Nancy Sinatra ~ You Only Live Twice 15. Nick Cave & Warren Ellis ~ Song For Bob 16. Smog ~ Vessel In Vain 17. Soulsavers ~ Revival 18. The Brian Jonestown Massacre ~ Anemone 19. Clutch ~ A Shogun Named Marcus 20. Fugazi ~ Blueprint 21. Hot Chip ~ Over And Over 22. Mark Lanegan ~ Wedding Dress 23. The Misfits ~ Halloween 24. Mogwai ~ Auto Rock 25. 13th Floor Elevators ~ Splash 1
  5. Can't understand the Bernie Mac hatred, I always thought he was quite an enjoyable presence in films. Especially Bad Santa, good call.
  6. He was also 'The Duke' in Escape From New York and so is eternally cool.
  7. I thought Death Proof was OK personally.....maybe slightly long but still better than a lot of the pish out there....considering the sort of movies it was meant to be aping it did the job.
  8. So is this supposed to be set between Episodes 2 and 3? The trailer was on in the cinema the other day but 2 bints were yakking beside me and I couldn't quite follow the jist....
  9. I went to see this on Saturday afternoon, I thought it was a really good film for the first hour and a half then it just seemed to lose track, could definitely have done with losing 30 45 minutes. Heath Ledger was very, very good, thats without any sentimentality at all. They seem to have wasted an opportunity to have a follow up Two Face film, his whole involvement at the end seemed very superfluous. It should have been more than a 12A certificate though, some of the kids in the audience were far too young for that. I kind of wish they would just go the whole hog and do an 18 certificate Batman film Definitely not the best film ever..best Batman film ever though..
  10. The Sex Pistols only made one album and it's pretty much perfect from start to finish. Bloc Party have made 2 and I own them both and can only think of 1 memorable song between them. Lydon's stuff with PiL was also largely fantastic, and it was brave stuff to come out with rather than just rehash what the Pistols did. It's too easy to take the Sex Pistols out of context now, I was too young for them when they were around but when I discovered them in the early 80's they still beat the hell out the shite you were forced to endure at that time in the mainstream charts, Spandau Ballet, Culture Club, Modern Romance, etc. Their 'outrageous' antics seem quaint now when you have folk like Marilyn Manson cropping up on a regular basis. John Lydon is a man out of time, I don't think he particularly tries to cause a stir for any publicity, he's just a cantankerous twat who like mouthing off but yes, it tends to be a bit embarassing to watch.
  11. Crime by Irvine Welsh, promising so far......
  12. Job Search Hmm, actually it looks as though lazy advertisers have experienced positions posted under 'no experience'. It does show up trainee and graduate positions however....
  13. It's worth registering an account and posting a CV on the site in case recruiters happen to be looking for graduates - my advice is to reactivate the CV on a weekly basis as it keeps the CV in the attention zone. Did you try searching under the 'no experience' menu?
  14. Josephine ~ This Is Not An Advertisement Stapleton ~ Rebuild The Pier Slayer ~ Reign In Blood No Age ~ Nouns One Day As A Lion ~ One Day As A Lion U2 ~ Boy/October/War Remastered Editions Hot Club De Paris ~ Drop It 'Till It Pops
  15. Oilcareers - The Official Recruitment site for the UK's Oil and Gas Industry oil and gas jobs search Mechanical Engineering positions tend to be available at many of the diving contractors such as Technip and Subsea 7 these companies run Graduate schemes and may be keen to get more new blood in regardless of the time of year. It depends of course on what your notion of a Mechanical Engineering position involves, this may not be your thing.
  16. I saw her on daytime TV a while back and she was quite well spoken, certainly nothing like her singing voice. Much as I like Twilight Sad, my first thought on hearing them was Shoegazing Proclaimers.
