  1. here dave, since your going fancy filling me in what the sound in the union is like? i was going to go, but i'm playing rugby away and won't be back in time...
  2. i havn't been to outrageous amounts of gigs, but i've never walked away from a performance with nothing to say. I didn't have anything to say after them, was ace.
  3. after seeing black channels tonight i strongly recommend seeing them. so much energy... made me feel like crap for not being able to make music like that. and enablers... YAS. going to be special.
  4. I wasn't saying those time signatures weren't used at all... just that it wasn't natural. free jazz and jazz fusion are genres of music i've yet to even give a listen let alone understand.
  5. Why am i not allowed to cross my arms at gigs? If i put them at my side they look silly. Annoyed/ashamed i didn't go. I'm going to the Dundee gig, no excuse for not going to an Aberdeen gig though bloody uni work. I don't think you can ridicule those lads for attending a good gig, despite them being there for their mates bands or not. Was discussing this the other day with a mate and a valid point was made... If all the Aberdeen scenes were kind of 'joined' then people would be exposed to different kinds of music maybe leading to make their own mind up. Discussions for another day/thread.
  6. its weird what sounds musical in different countries/cultures. Some of those tahitian harmonies are off sounding to us, but i guess to them its all melodic. Time signatures too... Traditional western music's natural rhythm tends to be in 4/4, but in some Eastern European countries the natural rhythm is 5/4. Ghanian drum ensembles drum in 12/8 so i'm told. Regardless it sounds very cool. What intervals are those harmonies the Bulgarian choir are singing?
  7. beats stamps, ye cunt. besides, i was merely showing my disappointment in the fact that there aren't more. Why shouldn't there be a comma? surely it should be 'set light to our kingdom' then?
  8. Maxi - Got a link to that black channels?? That will take my Scottish skramz band tally up to i think 4 (mesa/kaddish/archives/black channels). EDIT2: got the black channels stuff... its cool. The vocals are mega low in the mix though. Just listened to the 'set light, our kingdom' (i feel there should be a comma) track. the vocals are ok although they are far too high in the mix... I'm not sure if its the drumming, but it just doesn't seem very tight. If kaddish came up i'll even more definetly be heading down. Kinda gutted we're not playing this now... alas, Calum's fishmongering beckons. EDIT: ask S W O R D M A S T E R to play

    6 Nations 2008

No. Slow, brainless and very boring. One break will inevitably lead to a try. Have you ever been to a game? There is more minks in attendance than any SPL game. I'm just waiting for S14 to start, beacause quite frankly the standard of rugby in this 6 nations hums to high heaven. Even the form team, France, can't pull their finger out for an entire game. Clerc looks on form though, as does Heymans - who used to be quite slow and verging on chubby. I really like Malzieu for Clermont, although he scored a try last week for France his performance wasn't amazing... Talking about the french back three at length is a lot more exciting than talking about Scottish rugby. There is no hope for the future either... did anybody see the pumping Wales U20 gave Scotland U20? I knew a few boys from there who seem very good players at club level but just couldn't produce when faced with good opposition. The problem with Scottish rugby is there is little or no development for younger players stemming fromthe SRU being a bunch of arseholes.
  10. I heard this. Rubbish. Absolute rubbish. Just as they became my favourite band.

    Converge!

No Heroes is very good, but really doesn't stand out to me like Jane Doe does. I'm still not over the fact Kurt Ballou plays through a metal zone. I'm going to try my damnedest to make it down, as i had a ticket last year, but i fell ill on the day... even it is just to see the pit in the broken vow with all the fist pumping and such-like. From what i've heard they are the best live band ever. On the Converge topic, does anyone know what Kurt actually does with his guitar at the start of concubine?
  13. wow... a fender reverb and a diezel in the space of two months. mental. Aberdeen likes its tone.
  14. listened to maybeshewill. quite cool. reminds me of mahumodo/*shels a wee bit. any word on extra bands? excited for the neuk like... flooorr shoowwzzz

    6 Nations 2008

Wales beating England in 'Twikers' was possibly one of the best moments of my life. Saying that their game was patchy as hell showing enterprise for possibly about a minute for the entire game. Scotland look boring and pretty dire generally. No surprises i suppose. Rugby is a cunt's game, but you have NO idea how much fun it is being a cunt to someone on the pitch.
  16. I tried that once. used a site tunemybass or something like that. intonation was fine and it sounded sweet and tight even in drop C, but that action was far too high... i wouldn't know how to sort thast out. Bruceys recommended me this independent guy... Marshall Dow. i have his number somewhere...
  17. you said yourself most of those amps had something good about them and that they were suited for a certain style. but when someone is playing through an 800 you KNOW it... no matter what style... that makes it a great amp.
  18. nah nah nah... torso was severed needed to come on. we should have started an encore. more singing was required. most of the good bits were sung though. if they were really tech they would have done it themselves.... some of blakfish's vocals were cool. but that was about as far as it got... it wasn't an endurance test, but not enjoyable. Secta were good for the most part... only let down by leaning a bit too much towards what sounded very numetal. katerwaul never dissappoint.
  19. you might be able to get THROATS up. but its a bit of a long shot. Moleck are ace. They were stunning with sincabeza... drummer is a bit of a machine like.
  20. lucky does not describe it. probably on par with winning euro millions. Yeah, that Kerry King jcm 800 is the way to go if your wanting to fork out the big bucks. Or possibly the 5150 EVH, don't really know what it sounds like though. Another options the Marshall Vintage Modern - can get it for around 560 new. With the right pedals and guitar it sounds great - probably sound OK with the likes of boss metal zones too. Really versatile, lovely clean channel, a few knobs and simple controls means theres less tone draining going on.
  21. I thought they were meant to be really good. bummer. Why is that then?
  22. It really is. You can pick up a Peavey Valve King Head for 350 or something off GAK and i reckon that tone would suit what you want perfectly. I might be wrong, but from what I've heard they produce pretty good tone and have clarity even when you crank the drive. It has valves, so you will have to have 'check ups' every so often, but its probably worth it. Or you can fork out for something you'd keep for life - maybe a JCM 800/900?
