  2. Fickle bunch on here. I had a Morley for sale for 30-35 quid and got no takers.

He reckoned 100 - 150 if I could find anyone to do the job. He even went as far as to suggest that I might be as well bunging the guitar on ebay and just buying a new one!o_O " Geezo, that's like saying 'my car needs a new indicator switch, better sell it to Overton's of Dyce'. That would not be too big a job. What helps the situation is to attach a piece of strong thread to the 'buggered' pot after taking of the plastic knob, but, before removing the securing nut. Then undo the nut, and gently push the pot through. The pot will now be floating about inside the hollow body. Simply turn the guitar on it's edge until the offending pot comes into view. If you have a problem just get a thin piece of stiff wire 'hook' the pot and gently pull it through the 'F' hole. You can now work on the pot, taking care not to lose the end of the piece of thread. Once you have unsoldered th eiold pot and resoldered the new pot, tie the end of the thread back on to the new pot and simply pull the piece of thread back through the drilled hole in the body. When the new pot get near the hole be carefull not to pull too hard as you might break the thread. You might need the wire again, but this time to guide the bottom of the pot into position under the drilled hole before gently pulling the pot through. Slip the securing nut over the thread and and slowly tighten the nut on to the threaded section of the pot. I reckon this email took longer to write then it would take to get a pot out of an 'F' hole. Give me a PM if you would prefer to talk it over on the phone whatever.
  4. A solo, what's that then? Only joking, I think all guitar players like to solo, those that say they don't probably don't know how. I think the secret is not how many notes you put in, but how and where you put them in. It's got to add something to the song other than just making it longer. Endless widdlly, twiddly-dee is IMO tiresome. I bought a Budda Wah lately and found the using a wah, or you could use any effect within reason, during my solo's has brought a new dimension to my old work out fret work. As for how to put a solo together, your lugs will tell you what's right and what's not. It's important to not improvise over the same type of music all the time, because by changing from blues to jazz etc will let you know different notes go with different moods. Enjoy
  5. I've heard it said that the frequency of the bass notes don't really 'gel' until you get about 4-6 metres away from the cab, hence why bass players sometimes play too loud. IE they can't really hear what they are playing. I know that whenever I change over to play bass, it always seems to be quieter than it was when I was standing at the other end of the stage. So raising your combo would probably make no differance to what you were hearing (unless you were 4-6 metres away). I presume.

    I think R&B can be ok, it depends on what you want. IE. 'Merchant City' is good, but I can't remember the last time I saw a really nice s/h vintage guitar in there. However, the 'Vintage Guitars' shop has loads. So if you want just a 'normal' guitar or amp etc, R&B would be ok. Yes you could get stuff cheaper elsewhere, but if we said that about everything, there would be no shops at all in the NE. I mean, when was the last time you went to 'Farmfoods' in Govan for yer eerings!! However, I have found that R&B can be way off when it come to knowledge of the items they are selling. For instance, I saw a nice LP Custom in there a while back. The R&B guy told me it was a 72, however when I checked the number it was a 79. The same a couple of weeks ago, I asked about the s/h the purple THD and was told it was a 16ohm one, only to be told later, oops I've made a mistake, it's a 8 ohm. AofD. Sorry about the last comment, but it is true. If I made mistakes like that at my work, I would be in for the high jump!

  10. I've been using a SM57 to mike up my vox lately. I have it bang in the middle of the cone about 0.5 - 1cm for the the grill cloth. It sounds great. Not fuzzy etc, good overall sound. It sounds like the amp sounds to me standing next to it if you know what I mean. It might have something to do with the AC30 having a wooden slat in the middle of the speaker, hence blocking some of the dreaded "cone of death" sound that was discussed on this forum a short while ago.
