  1. You did not say if it was the voices of the crowd or the sound of the vocal. I presume you mean your singer vocals. It's important to get a good balance of vocal/guitar/drums/bass etc. You don't need a small fortune worth of gear to do this (although that sometimes helps) Just someone with a good ear that you can trust. And that does not mean the bass players girlfriend/boyfriend either, as they will probably say "the bass needs up a bit'. Trust me on this, I have been there and got the hoody. Guitar amps....Diesel is right, it depends on your music style. There are extreme ends of the market regarding amps as Diesel stated. However, most amps can do most things within reason. I know I will get slated for saying this, but I think if you are unsure of what you really want/need, try out a Line 6 combo of some sort. you can get some 'reasonable' sounds out of them. One of these might give you an idea of the type of 'real' amp you require. You might not need a vintage fender/marshall/vox etc etc. Let's now wait!!!!
  2. TBH I was fancing the THD, but the set impedance is putting me off a little bit. I'd never heard of the Weber before, but this might be the one for me. I would really like to get my half stack going again, but it's just too bloody loud most of the time.. I know this is a little off the thread, but while talking about vavles etc. Has anyone found their head/combi start to lose, shall we say 'sparkle', over the period of an evening gigging? Or is just my hearing being blattered and not hearing what I thought I heard at the start of the gig?
  3. I noticed Mass has the choice of ohms , which is good if you use different cabs. But am I correct in thinking that all THD's are set to one ohm setting, or do they make variables as well?
  4. It's like I said he sold it. He put an add in the paper and someone came and bought it. It was 15 years ago min! You should be able to pick one another up no problem though. Or does it have to be that one? I wouldn't care, I hardly ever sale on guitars, that's way I seem to have tooooo much of the buggers. TBH I have talked several time about it to the guy I sold it to, but he can't remember who he sold it to. All he ever says is "That was a nice guitar after I got rid of that gagging paint job" So there you have it Tickets. I have a epi sg with stonking pick ups in it if you what to try that out.
  5. Ah! Right! I suppose you are correct. Because in theory you are playing the amp at higher volumes. Cheers.
  6. Interesting. You do you think it compares with the Powerbrake?
  7. Okay we all know that a valve amp sounds better cranked up a few notchs, but also know it can be too load at this sonic nirvana levels. What is the best 'power brake' type thing to use. I have a Marshall Powerbrake already, but I feel it mucks up the tone a bit. Is this just me? Also, do these contraptions bugger up the valves etc? Cheers Brian
  8. Aye nae bother....would you also like me to get you the Holy Grail as well. Joking aside, I dinna ken far it's at noo. The last I saw it was in Balmedie, but I know the guy sold it from there. He cleaned it up and took out the MHG bit (no accounting for taste - I liked it, in fact it was a bit like Dave Hill's 'Super Yob' guitar) Gee it was too many years ago.?( Oh! and HAPPY NEW YEAR!! nearly forgot about that!
  9. "The Hotcake is amazing, I've had one for 6 years and it's one of my favourite pedals but they're really temperamental about what amp you use (they're designed for Vox amps Bri! ). " That's amazing. I thought I was the only one to hear that with my Marshalls. As you say, no problem with the vox though.
  10. I've got one. It's okay, but I prefer my Hotcake. I always think the Big Muff adds something to the signal even when it's switched off. I also like the Jekyll & Hyde Ultimate Distortion, it's great VFM coz it's two pedals in one box. If you want to spend a bit more try a MoonRock HOME Great sounds but depends a lot on yout playing style. Cooler than a bag of Fox's Glacier Mints.
  11. Thanks Biz, but my works PC won't let me access myspace for some reason. Can't even access our own red cortinas site. Due to 'unsuitable content' . No digs required about the content;) But am I correct in what I thought? It was in the Windmill lounge. Better than a few other bands I saw there. Joe Public and French Lessons were ok covers bands. Better than the other bands kicking about at the time. Life and Soul, Embassy Sound etc etc.
  12. APB. Was that not a punk type trio? I think I saw them play in Peterhead one time. The management of the pub pulled the plug on them. Aye! actually pulled th eplug out of the wall. The crowd went apeshit until he plugged them back in. Is this one and the same band??? Another question. Biz you might know this one..did Bruce from Dirtys/Pedro's band play bass with them for a while or is that an urban myth?
  13. Ah! Boys don't cry. Classic. 'I would say I'm sorry if I thought that it would change your mind, but I know that this time I have said too much, been too unkind' Great lyrics. How many times have you thought about saying something like that?
  14. Class! If you are over him yet give me a PM. I'm 'having a giraffe' btw:up:
  15. I have a S&P. it is a nice guitar, not too big either as it's like a 'folky' thing. I tried a couple of Breadlove guitars around 500 quid mark.....really really good guitars!! I would certainly try out one of those if I was you. I tried it a Rainbow Music Dundee. Breadlove got best acoustic of 2006 in one of the mags, I can't remember if it was in the 'under 1000, or over 1000' price range though.
