  1. Someone needs to put this to music. Muttered in Arab Strap style with dark and eerie guitar line and some rattling drums. It would sell a million. AKM
  2. These things are hard to come by. Even eBay couldn't help. Would be interested to know anywhere they could be found. AKM
  3. Generally Aberdeen crowds are pretty awful. I've been to countless gigs where the bands have been met with folded arms and muted applause, catcalls and heckles for no apparent reason, or just people chatting loudly all through their set. Some guy was even chanting "you suck!" at Laeto the other night, which is just unforgiveable... AKM
  4. I was surprised at how few folk stayed on for Laeto. They were immense. I only arrived as Fiction/Action were starting up but I thought they were pretty decent too. Laeto rule, as always. AKM
  5. I doubt it. If they had done, they'd have realised that 3/4 of the monkeys album is crap. AKM
  6. The Welles should petition Orson for a support slot, if only to see a big poster with "Orson The Welles" written on it. I always thought Orson Welles needed a middle name. AKM
  7. While it's impossible not to be amazed by the dexterity of these guys, I can't help but think there's not really much purpose to what they're doing. What's the point learning to play *really really fast* if all you can play is meaningless, directionless noodling? AKM
  8. Isn't Neil Young the coolest old man in rock? Especially since Dylan did lingerie adverts... AKM
  9. Not at all. It certainly doesn't help though. We didn't get ANY sound check, which is a bit of a pain with five guys, three vocal mics, keyboard, two guitars, etc. We've played the Moorings and we enjoyed it. Because all the levels seemed just about right from the start. Noted. Again, it wasn't an excuse - it's not like we're incredible when we DO get a soundcheck...just illustrating that it wasn't really our night. I've never heard Stayover so I couldn't comment. Maybe we're just still at the nursery stage re. soundchecking. AKM
  10. You're entitled to your opinions, and I won't offer excuses (we weren't on form that night)...suffice to say that when you get two hours to soundcheck, and one band (nameless, of course) uses up an hour and a half of that time with interminable fannying about, leaving our band with nothing more than a 5 minute line-check before we start...it doesn't make for the best performance! I'm expecting we'll sound better in Drummonds on Monday. AKM
  11. What did you not like about Kordoba? Needless to say I won't cry at any criticisms. AKM
  12. Nickelback are probably the worst band in the world. Everything about them annoys me: hair, songs, voice, the way he holds his guitar, etc. Ugh. AKM
  13. I actually thought the cover of "Nothing Compares..." was the highlight of their set. But, come to mention it, it DID sound a bit like McFly. AKM
  14. That's what I sound like without monitors. AKM
  15. You neglected to mention that it also stars SIR Ben Kingsley. Expect to hear from his lawyers. AKM
  16. Pffft. You for real? The French stereotypes are very true. They seriously don't appreciate people who can't/won't speak any French. But if you at least try a few words, they'll cut you some slack and help you out. Even though most of them have conversational English, it's polite to learn a leetle beet of Francais. AKM
  17. I said "equivalent" amount. Obviously he has slightly more spare time and money than you, I'm guessing? But he makes a hell of an effort for a good cause. Which not many people do. Ugh. He's apparently a "comedian/TV presenter". He's neither funny or entertaining. I wish he were not on my TV screen any more. AKM
  18. Not true. Raised awareness, and twisted government arms into coughing up more dough. Unless you have done an equivalent amount of charity work to Bob Geldof, don't criticise his efforts. Best bit of the show? When Geldof called Russell Brand a "c**t". If ever an epithet was deserved, this was it. And Brand's face was a picture. AKM
  19. Say, for example, I wanted to hire the Forum for a night for a semi-private gig. Involving four bands. In May. I've enquired about prices, security etc, but I'm just wondering if the Forum's sound/light/monitor system is any cop, or if we'd have to hire the above? Also - does anyone know if the Forum have their own sound man, or would we have to find one? cheers AKM
  20. I was in Paris this weekend just past. Stayed in Montparnasse, found a great wee hotel on www.ratestogo.com - well worth checking out. Montparnasse, the Latin Quarter and St. Germain are all readily accessible and lovely areas. The Eiffel Tower is infintely better and bigger than I expected. AKM
  21. No! Not my name! I don't want anyone getting access to my name! AKM
  22. I saw them a few years back, supporting the Coral at Kef. The Leaves played too. I had to go to football so I ended up missing the Coral. Zutons have changed their sound a bit since then, and added the sax player. AKM
  23. Seen them twice in Aberdeen. Better live than recorded. Worth seeing. AKM
  24. The "Plastic Surgery Disasters/In God We Trust Inc" set is tremendous. Fresh Fruit probably wins though, mainly because of California Uber Alles and Holiday In Cambodia. AKM
