  1. We (Kordoba) are one of the other bands. I am now slightly unnerved by hearing that these guys are probably going to make us look shit in comparison. Come and hear us anyway! We combine some punk elements with Flaming Lips, Perfect Circle, Hives, Pixies influences to form a unique space-prog groove. Expect an electrically eclectic set. AKM
  2. "No, you CAN'T!" "well, there's NO need for that!" AKM
  3. It wasn't a case of "couldn't be arsed practicing" - the only slot we could fit in at the Byre was 2-3 January, so the band members had all either been working or were away home for the holidays. Insch, Aberdeen, Inverness, Caithness and Stornoway? Quite hard to practice at those distances. And the guitars sounded ok on the guide tracks and the initial recording, but one of the over-dubbed guitars sounds slightly off-key. We're pretty inexperienced and usually work in a hurry so we don't often notice these things til it's too late. All part of the learning curve. AKM
  4. Didn't want to start a whole 'nuther thread for just one more song: Here's the second song we recorded at the Byre: Narcissus<----- Personally I think the vocals are pretty dreadful, and the guitars sound a tad out of tune. But I will say this. I love the last 30 seconds more than pretty much anything else we've recorded. Thoughts? AKMartin
  5. Guitar solo on "Street Cred" by Laeto. In a way, I hope they don't play it at their gig here in April cos I'll just end up embarrassing myself. AKM
  6. Bollocks to that. If you can't take criticism, don't be in a band. Obviously the originator of the thread should be able to back up his comments, but spare us this touchy-feely "respect" crap. AKM
  7. Kordoba are also supporting Union Of Knives. Our first gig for three months. Huzzah. AKM
  8. The fact that it's in Aberdeen means that it won't be the best course in the world. Simply because of THE RAIN. Did everyone forget that golfing in the rain is crap beyond belief? AKM
  9. I thought it was the most disappointing comedy I've ever seen on TV. I thought it was cheap, dull, obvious and badly written. For Linehan and Morris to be associated with it made me very unhappy, considering their past efforts. AKM
  10. Spot the autotuner going into hyperdrive on his debut single. Worst singer I've ever seen on telly. AKM
  11. Brokeback will sweep the board. It's not a great movie; good, but not great. Certainly doesn't merit awards except for maybe Heath Ledger's acting, and the incredible scenery. AKM
  12. I am not a fan of bands with "The" in front of their name. But then again, I don't think band names really matter. If a band called "Elbow" can be amazing, and a band called "Tool"...then QED. AKM
  13. Screw the name change saga: That is Can't wait. AKM
  14. I think they're great, especially live. Their guitarist and drummer are shit-hot. And they have a very eclectic groove. /two cents. AKM
  15. Thanks for feedback. Appreciate honesty, whether positive or negative. Any more? cheers AKM
  16. It's on at the same time as Desperate Housewives, so, y'know, the Yankees win. AKM
  17. Personally speaking, I really like the track. I was pleased that a song that I usually consider quite flat and over-long turned out with a sense of depth and an eerie quality that we didn't anticipate. I think the drum SOUNDS aren't quite what we'd have hoped for...but I think we as a band expect too much from our recording sessions, so we don't leave enough time to fix everything. Given the chance to do it over again, we'd have probably just focussed on one or two tracks at the most, so we could do each of them in depth and getting every detail right, rather than hurrying through three tracks. But this is certainly the track that I was most happy about. Drum sounds (along with guitar sound and vocal effects) are the things most often criticised about recorded music. Personally I know very little about drum sounds, and what sounds are considered good/shite. I'm guessing it's something that can only be learned over time and with experience. Ironically enough our drummer is the weakest musician in our band, which is fair comment considering he doesn't have his own kit, only started playing around Dec 04, and only gets a chance to practice once a week! in contrast our bass player is the most talented member of the band and his mistakes are like hen's teeth. once again I say - opinions, etc... but it DID take four hours to fix the drum tracks and iron out the missed beats and kicks... thanks again for comments. one more thing - aside from the technical stuff - what did y'all think of the SONG? Good? Weak? Who does it sound like? AKM
  18. I evolve...but I don't...revolve... I'll start giving money to animal charities when there are no human beings suffering war, famine, poverty or disease in the world. AKM
  19. Hooray, opinions at last. I'm not sure what constitues "dry" drums (as opposed to "wet"?) or "shakey" bass playing so maybe you could be a bit more specific? Keilan : I think --->this <--- is the only Kordoba song that runs under 4 minutes...recorded in a hurry last year! I think it's pretty sweet. Opinions, etc. We spent two days at the Byre, the first day was a bit of a screw up because we tried to record guide tracks, which isn't something we're very proficient at, especially after not practicing together for 3 weeks. We recorded two other songs - one of which isn't on the web yet, and the other of which is on our site but I think is terrible so I won't link to it. It's fairly easy to find if you're keen... Our engineer was Andrew Graeme, a bit of a legend. cheers for all comments so far. AKM
  20. Why do people pay 50 to see U2? Unbelievable. How can they possibly claim that that's anything except greed? AKM
  21. 46 views and no comments. am I to surmise that you all hated the track, or that you're just dumbstruck with awe? AKM
  22. Of course. A quick end to a long and unproductive argument about band names. AKM
  23. If you clicky -->here<-- you'll find an interesting new song from Kordoba which we recorded at the Byre this month. We'd appreciate comments or criticisms from anyone with the time and patience to listen to it, so let's hear em. It's got synths! And German! And other such atmospheric stuff. love. AKM
  24. Does Barrymore have clinical depression? Certainly looks like it. And if so, seems a bit harsh to put him on a 24-hr reality programme. Fail to understand the sympathy for Jodie Marsh, given that her stock behaviour is to drink, smoke and arse around, and that her general retorts to any criticism are along the lines of "Esscuse me, but...y'know...fucking...know what I mean? I don't need this, you're all...y'know...fake, and...but...can I finish?" she's a horrible little woman. AKM
