  1. Hey all, I'm selling my Line 6 Spider 2 Amp, Shortboard controller and Expression pedal to finance buying another amp. The amp is stereo with 2x10 Celestion speakers putting out 120w of power The shortboard features a backlit display and allows you to scroll through 36 preset sounds, turn off chorus/delay/tremelo and phase. Also tap delay tempo and built in tuner and noisegate. It has a built in expression pedal allowing volume control or wah-wah when used in conjunction with the additional expression pedal I'm including. Both amp and pedal are in very good condtion. Only gigged once. There are some minor nicks and scrapes on the paint/tolex caused by lugging it to Capt Toms every week. Its a very versatile amp which to be honest is wasted on my less than versatile playing style - I'm only utilising 2 of those 36 channels - 1 clean and 1 dirty so I'd rather sell it and buy something simpler. I'm looking for around 300 for the lot but willing to negotiate. I'd rather sell it here and have someone local collect than put it up on Fleabay and have to post it. The shortboard alone is worth at least 100 PM me with your email if you want to see photos of it. Thanks
  2. Is this a comment on the gleaming paragon of incisive and investigative journalism otherwise known as the Evening Express?
  3. Apologies if this is old news to anyone here but the Evening Express reports today that Green Day will be recording their version of The Simpsons theme for the forthcoming movie.
  4. I've actually been to Muff in Ireland a few times and admit to sniggering like a wee boy every time. They also have a petrol station called "Top Muff"
  5. I seem to remember a certain Mr Branson once being up before the beak for doing pretty much the same thing when he first started Virgin. Bottom line is people want to pay the lowest price for their music. If the prices for UK sourced cds were competitive enough people wouldn't have to buy imports. All the BPI is trying to do is enforce a protectionist market that suits them best not the consumer or even the artist. Check this excerpt from an interview with Trent Reznor... Herald Sun: It must be an odd time then to have a new album, "Year Zero", out? Trent: It's a very odd time to be a musician on a major label, because there's so much resentment towards the record industry that it's hard to position yourself in a place with the fans where you don't look like a greedy asshole. But at the same time, when our record came out I was disappointed at the number of people that actually bought it. If this had been 10 years ago I would think "Well, not that many people are into it. OK, that kinda sucks. Yeah I could point fingers but the blame would be with me, maybe I'm not relevant." But on this record, I know people have it and I know it's on everybody's iPods, but the climate is such that people don't buy it because it's easier to steal it. You're a bit of a computer geek. You must have been there, too? Oh, I understand that I steal music too, I'm not gonna say I don't. But it's tough not to resent people for doing it when you're the guy making the music that would like to reap a benefit from that. On the other hand, you got record labels that are doing everything they can to piss people off and rip them off. I created a little issue down here because the first thing I did when I got to Sydney is I walk into HMV, the week the record's out, and I see it on the rack with a bunch of other releases. And every release I see: $21.99, $22.99, $24.99. And ours doesn't have a sticker on it. I look close and "Oh, it's $34.99." So I walk over to see our live DVD "Beside You in Time", and I see that it's also priced six, seven, eight dollars more than every other disc on there. And I can't figure out why that would be. Did you have a word to anyone? Well, in Brisbane I end up meeting and greeting some record label people, who are pleasant enough, and one of them is a sales guy, so I say "Why is this the case?" He goes "Because your packaging is a lot more expensive". I know how much the packaging costs it costs me, not them, it costs me 83 cents more to have a CD with the colour-changing ink on it. I'm taking the hit on that, not them. So I said "Well, it doesn't cost $10 more." "Ah, well, you're right, it doesn't. Basically it's because we know you've got a core audience that's gonna buy whatever we put out, so we can charge more for that. It's the pop stuff we have to discount to get people to buy it. True fans will pay whatever." And I just said "That's the most insulting thing I've heard. I've garnered a core audience that you feel it's OK to rip off? F--- you." That's also why you don't see any label people here, 'cos I said "F--- you people. Stay out of my f---ing show. If you wanna come, pay the ticket like anyone else. F--- you guys." They're thieves. I don't blame people for stealing music if this is the kind of s--- that they pull off. Where does that extra $10 on your album go? That money's not going into my pocket, I can promise you that. It's just these guys who have f---ed themselves out of a job essentially, that now take it out on ripping off the public. I've got a battle where I'm trying to put out quality material that matters and I've got fans that feel it's their right to steal it and I've got a company that's so bureaucratic and clumsy and ignorant and behind the times they don't know what to do, so they rip the people off. Given all that, do you have any idea how to approach the release of your next album? I have one record left that I owe a major label, then I will never be seen in a situation like this again. If I could do what I want right now, I would put out my next album, you could download it from my site at as high a bit-rate as you want, pay $4 through PayPal. Come see the show and buy a T-shirt if you like it. I would put out a nicely packaged merchandise piece, if you want to own a physical thing. And it would come out the day that it's done in the studio, not this "Let's wait three months" bulls---. CD Wow also does import DVDs (as do Play and Amazon) What's the difference between buying an import cd from Hong Kong and buying a Region 1 DVD cheaper and months before it hits the shelves on Region 2?
  6. BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Record companies win 41m damages Suprised no one else has mentioned this today.
  7. From their website... "VAT, Customs & Courier charges will be applied. We have no control over this and we do sympathise with you over these charges. For your information: When you package arrives in the UK HM Revenue & Customs will charge 17.5% VAT on the total value of your purchase, including shipping. They will also charge around 0.60p Import Duty per watch. The courier (Usually Parcelforce) will additionally charge a 13.50 'Administration' charge."
  8. The Hold Steady - "Boys and Girls in America"
  9. Standard but if I find I'm coming up with the same old chord progressions then I either go for Drop D, Open G (DGDGBD) or D Modal (DADGBD) to see if I can get a bit more creative.
  10. Great thread - The Boss is long overdue some respect. I just got the cd version of the Hammersmith Odeon gig the other day after I re-watched the dvd from the Born to Run 30th Anniversary set and was once again blown away by the stripped down piano version of Thunder Road he kicks the set off with. It beats the one on the Live 75-85 version (which is good but this one is better). Wish he would play a gig in this part of the world. Don't think he's been north of the border since he played Edinburgh on the Tom Joad tour.
  11. Personally, while not to belittle what has happened in the US this week, I was more disgusted by the blanket coverage and collective hand-wringing over the Prince William relationship breakup. as if that had any importance or relevance to our lives.

  13. The Microsynth is pretty cool - I have one of those too. As for the Jamman, yes you can use it live once you get the hang of stopping and starting your loops. I have used it with a prerecorded synth lick before but the timing has to be spot on, we ended up recording stick clicks and all sorts to help cue our drummer. You can also load samples onto it (like clips from films etc). If you're going to use it that way you can just plug it direct into the PA so its not going through any overdrive etc you have on your guitar amp. If you buy one you should get hold of a piece of software called Loopertools which allows you to transfer your loops back and forth between PC and pedal so you can do all sorts of editing on them.
  14. According to the liner notes by Bruce Botnick the orginal album was released at the wrong speed and pitch (slightly slow and therefore half a key low) which has now been corrected. On "Break on Through" the word "high" which was mixed out of the original release has been reinstated there are apparently lots of other minor differences with things being added back into the mix that were previously inaudible - reminds me of the remixes Pearl Jam did for "Rearview Mirror" The Fopp website also has these cds at 5.00 (plus a flat fee of 1 for delivery) dunno if the shop will have them at that price as there seems to be some discrepancy between the two at times - I got a couple of Foo Fighter's cds for a 5 each from the website but they are 10 a pop in the shop. I also got the Velvet Undeground's "Loaded" (2cd version) for 8 but the shop has the old one disc effort at the same price.
  15. The four they had were "The Doors", "Strange Days", "Morrison Hotel" and "LA Woman" didn't see the other two at the time I was in.
  16. Sorry Dude - couldn't be helped. They had plenty of copies anyway so I'm sure there will be some left if you go back:up:
  17. Just thought I'd pass this on for anyone who was interested. Asda has all of the 40th anniversary Doors cds on sale at 4.97 at the moment.
  18. I agree absolutely with your first point however let's not forget that John Peters did put a book out about his experience (Amazon.co.uk: Tornado Down: Books: John Peters,John Nichol,William Pearson) although, to be fair I think he at least waited until he had left the RAF before cashing in.
  19. Digitech Jamman to keep track of riff ideas and work out songs, Boss RT-20 Rotary Speaker simulator for swirly Leslie sounds, Danelectro Backtalk reverse delay to help create some more "special defects" and a Boss LS-2 line selector to save on tap-dancing around my pedals. Quite fancy a new amp this year as well - Currently have a 120w Line6 Spider II but I'm bored with it and fancy a proper valve amp instead. I've always had a notion for the AC-30 (I have a dinky little 15w Vox Pathfinder for home recording which is pretty sweet). Anyone road-tested the new Custom Classic series?
  20. Damn! you nailed a heap of ones I was thinking of. Still, to add to those... "We came, we saw, we kicked its ass" from Ghostbusters The passing out parade in Stripes "It was you Fredo, you broke my heart" from Godfather part 2 "No, I am your father" from Empire Strikes Back - also the "I love you" "I know" exchange just before Han Solo gets put into carbon freeze The opening sequence from Raiders of the Lost Ark The Horse/Blanks scene in Animal House also Belushi's "Did our guys give up when the German's bombed Pearl Harbor" rant. The "conversation" with the Mother ship in Close Encounters. The "How the fuck am I funny?" scene in Goodfellas

  22. I believe they now have a booze licence now. Shame really, I kinda liked the BYOB. They were doing some good meal deals last time I looked. Dinner for two for 20 or something like that.
