  1. Flea also pops up in Back to the Future's II and III as I recall. He can also be seen playing a redneck along with Anthony Keidis in "The Chase" with Charlie Sheen. A few more cameo's spring to mind... Phil Spector as the pusher in Easy Rider Bruce Springsteen in High Fidelity Isn't Greg Alman in the brilliant "Rush" playing a drug dealer? ...and lest we forget Courtney Love's turn as skag addled hooker in Sid and Nancy. Talk about typecasting!!!
  2. Can't believe so few people plumped for Hard Days Night - as someone said earlier, its the Fabs at their pop peak. It was also a real milestone in their development: the first (and only) LP to be comprised of only Lennon/Macartney Songs. Can't help but smile every time I hear that massive "Brrrrrrraaaaaaannnngggggg" at the start of the title track - inspired me to buy a 12 string Rickenbacker. Would probably take Revolver as the overall champ but every album has something to offer ...yes, even Beates for Sale (No Reply, Eight Days a Week, I'm a Loser, I Don't want to Spoil The Party and I've always had a soft spot for I'll Follow the Sun). I have to admit I was dubious about the whole Let it Be...Naked thing but I eventually caved in and bought the bugger and its actually rather good - well worth a listen if you haven't heard it.
  3. Somebody already mentioned "The Iseralites" by Desmond Dekker and the Aces - it would definately be on my list. Also, "Uptown Top Ranking" by Althea and Donna - can't believe nobody has mentioned that one - its a classic!8)
  4. You could also try taking what you have written an cutting the phrases up and re-arranging them in a different order to get suprising results. Kurt Cobain (among others) was apparently a fan of the technique (I think he pinched it from writer William Burroughs).
  5. A choice of coconut or chocolate watch to you for that astute piece of deduction. I'm suprised no one got it sooner - everyone should see Jaws at least once in their life 8) Still two more to go... "Now, I'm depressed. Now, I feel like killing myself, but, luckily, I'm too depressed to bother" "I thought I was looking at my mother's old douche bag, but that's in Ohio."
  6. I have that one on DVD - sorry but like Sir Cliff, there is something not quite right about him and he makes my skin crawl. Still, neither of them as scary as Christine and Neil Hamilton though o_O That bit where she gets a bit pissed and comes on to Louis - eeek!
  7. Mr T is waaaaay less creepy than Sir Jimmy - he looks like a Scooby Doo villain! When he was on Celeb Big Brother I kept waiting for someone to "unmask" him so he could turn to the camera and declare that "now then, now then, as it 'appens I would've gotten away with it too if it hadn't been for you meddling kids!"
  8. Has anyone else on the board invested in any of the new(ish) Hi definition audio formats? I'd be interested in hearing other people's opinions on them. I started dabbling after upgrading my DVD player to one with SACD and a surround set up. I've also purchased a few dvd-audios as well. Despite being impressed with the quality and the option in some cases of 5.1 mixes both formats seem to be dying on their arses in the UK There was a big push at the start with all Dylan's back catalogue as well as the Stones, but finding more modern artists has been a real struggle. It would be a real shame if neither format caught on with the public and was left languish in a little audiophile ghetto as they are miles better than regular CDs.
  9. Very interesting article. Proves my point that Queen were miles away from being "first" to make a video - perhaps this constant misrepresentation is the fault of lazy journalists and researchers who can't be bothered to check anything. While I'm here - can't believe I forgot "Sabotage" still chuckle every time I see that one. One of the highlights of seeing them on their last tour was they had this idea that everyone should come "dressed for the pageant" and encouraged everyone to get dressed up for the show rather than the usual jeans and t-shirt regalia. Everyone who did got filmed and shown before the show started. Suprisingly there were only three guys who had dared to rock the Sabotage look and you could see everyone else looking at them thinking "damn, wish I'd done that!" "Hey Ladies" is another cracking Beastie Boys clip too.
  10. Come to Daddy - Aphex Twin - all those little kids running around with Richard Jame's face on eek! 8o Teardrop - Massive Attack - the one with the singing foetus Buddy Holly - Weezer - the first video I recall that made use of "Forrest Gump" style technology to put the band into "Happy Days" since done in a much more shite way by Citreon. Jesus Christ Pose & Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden Hurt - Johnny Cash One - Metallica - their first video and still the best. November Rain - Guns and Roses - just for the sheer pompous excess, so over the top you can't help but love it. Oh, I'm sure I could think of more but its getting late. While we're on the subject though - why do so many people insist on citing Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody as the first pop video? Many big bands had made a habit of recording promotional clips since the mid 60s to promote their singles while they were on tour etc. It was hardly a novel concept by the time Mercury and co. used it.
