  1. The first rule of stroking club etc etc We must all spread the word of this woman's loveliness!
  2. Gary, Jacqui and myself decided Aberdeen needed a slice of her sweetness, so we badgered her into coming up here when we last saw her in Edinburgh. It's the full band bizness, too!
  3. Advanced warning, folks! Fife duo Motormark storm their official DHR electropunk into Drakes, abily assisted by London's delightful Piney Gir and local robotechdiscotheque troupe, The Videos! Surely you've not lived if you've not seen Motormark's legendary Drakes gigs, and now they're doubly cult given their new label sees them rubbing shoulders with Alec Empire's pick of the underground punktronic set. Boy girl dynamics that just makes you want to go beat up a casio. Piney Gir's a charismatic slice of music history distilled into one genre-hopping set of electronic delights - From sleazoid Peaches-esque electroclash to loungecore croons, taking brief detours via the nursery and good ol' country and western. It's like pot luck, except every song's a winner. Direct from the mouth of The Videos, "Real Shocks+Japan+Filth+Black+Disco = The Videos". Nuff said really. FRIDAY THE 21st JANUARY 2005 at DR DRAKES! Price and time TBC soon! EDINBURGH PEOPLE - Piney Gir will be playing with Motormark at the Caledonian Backpackers Hostel on Saturday the 22nd of January as part of the Easy Tiger night - No excuse to miss out on 2 of the 3 top bands we've got on up here!
  4. Totally, if they don't play here I'll for one definitely be driving down. Think I know who else will be filling up my car, though...
  5. That man is a legend, pure and simple. Straight from something by Edward Gorey or Tim Burton.
  6. Oh I paid for last night this morning, like you would not believe. I had a fantastic time, all the acts were amazing and I have to agree with Alan - They were all brilliant in thier own right, felt like a night of equals. It's also the most fun I've had DJing in Aberdeen - I was gobsmacked when people started dancing, even more so when they kept going, and going, and going... Magic! Chris, Joe and Thomas were some of the nicext guys I've met, really friendly and created a brilliant atmosphere in the good ol' Doc's.
  7. Synergy will be ace, no doubt - But seriously, the line-up on Saturday night is amazing. Chris TT, Thomas Truax and Sergeant Buzfuz on the same bill... Wow.
  8. You'd be silly not to book them, Paul. They're japanese, they do every metal cliche known to man, got voted the best live act at the Fudge awards last year (what bigger acclaim do you need?) and finished this year's Truck Records festival in inimitable style. Besides, if you don't, someone else will.
  9. Forgot that one was used, too. Depends which advert Johnny meant - The one with the kick-ass cool electronic track, or the indie/alt version with Razorlight.
  10. I think it's Rocker, by Alter Ego.
  11. Loved the gig, great to see a decent turn-out. A hearty round of applause for the DJs, some top tunes in their selection.
  12. Nostalgia

I feel the attendance at gigs may be more to promoters relying too heavily on the net and not getting off their own arses to advertise their gigs thoroughly on foot or with posters. This site itself is not unhealthy and advertising on here can do no harm, but I do feel some people rely too heavily on it as the only medium of advertising. So I don't believe people prefer to stay in online talking rubbish, but I do believe advertising solely to the people who read this board is not very effective. I'm out and about town a lot, and a considerable number of evenings and weekends, yet I can't honestly recall the last physical flyer I've been handed for a gig. Maybe another factor is that bands that have been on the scene for 2 to 3 years playing the same style of set or similar just aren't going to have the same pull as they did when they were fresh and could rely upon hoards of friends turning up. Unless a band are really dynamically improving and working on thier sound it's just not worth wasting a night to see a regurgitated rendition of the same set, different order. I'm not suggesting any bands here, I certainly can't think of any off the top of my head - It's just a point for discussion. I, for one, have found considerably more gigs to attend in the last year than I remember being excited about 2 or 3 years ago. I admit I'm not really in to the same scene of music as Bob, so perhaps my view point is a bit different, but I'm welcoming the breadth of musical diversity I've had the opportunity to attend.
  14. Looks like it's a repeat of the Box Set recorded when he was last in Glasgow playing the Barrowlands - I taped it off the TV then and it's well worth watching.
  15. An aye from several of my friends at work, I'd imagine. I was gutted when they pulled out of the Spiritualized support slot.
  16. Can I just say that without Blixa, Weeping Song is a pale imitation of it's former glory and that Nick can't scream like Mr. Bargeld over the end of Stagger Lee. Aside from that (and the slightly muddy sound mix) it was a fantastic gig on the Saturday night. Loved the huge chunk of new songs - It's really endeared me to the new album(s). Good surprise to hear Deanna and City Of Refuge in the encore. The gospel singers added wonderfully without being overpowering and (as a plus point of Blixa's departure) there does seem to be more variety in the instruments used. Only one thing I thought to suffer was the quiet break-down sections in songs which seemed to all but dissappear (for example, Deanna never relented to the stripped down menacing mid-section I love so much and God Is In The House didn't seem as fragile as normal). I sound like I'm moaning a lot, but I loved the gig - A totally different experience from the Barrowlands gig a while back which made me doubly happy.
  17. The trick is to always stand in dark corners. Or, alternatively, don't wash your clothes. Filthy little gothses.
  18. I agree, it was a fantastic day! Thanks to Jim, Sharon and all the others for letting me hook up with Graeme as a DJ display team. Here's to the next!
  19. I know it may be improper to ask, but would you marry me? Under a week to Nick Cave in Glasgow! I'd be annoyed about having to wait so long, but I'm going to Berlin to see Einsturzende Neubauten first!
