  1. They should have been knighted, I tell ya!
  2. Time to dust off the old Vegas Bump'N'Grind album for the next time I'm DJ'ing on a Friday night, then.
  3. Yeah, he's shite. Not as bad as that long-haired gimp they used to have doing it, though. Fuck, he was awful.
  4. Aye, it's hard to keep track on how it sounds in the room from the DJ booth - The sound there is totally different (we're nowhere near the speakers, really). I'll echo what Sean said, though - If it's too loud, just let us know Yar, on Friday nights it is chill out - Saturdays are a law unto their own, and the music is definately not aimed at being chilled. The second room was used prior for Hip Hop on Caged nights before it the chill-out room started on Friday nights at Bond*age - I guess as more people go to Bond*age it's become associated with chill-out and not much else.
  5. Hi there, Yeah, it's a tricky balance to maintain. When it's half empty, it's easy - I try to play it so it's loud enough to soak up and listen to, but not too loud to obscure conversation. When the back room is packed (like it was last night) it's a problem - The background noise makes it hard to judge how it's sounding throughout the whole room (especially from the DJ booth). I tend to try and walk around the room to hear how it's sounding, and think on the whole the volume level is about right for the room. There were a couple of large groups obviously having a lot of fun in the back room last night - To be expected in a night club, obviously. It's a pity it dulled your enjoyment of the music, though. I was aware of them, and tried to balance the music in response though. Kinda hard, as you rightly point out, when people raise their voices with the music anyway! To turn this constructive, do people feel that the ambience of the room plays a part in this? Is it too light, too open etc? Do you think the music getting played is having a part in this? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts! Ta!
  6. Turn left out of The Moorings. Walk, like, 15 yards and look up the hill to your left. Slap hand to forehead and go "D'oh". It's like, under 60 seconds walking distance
  7. One for all the owners of Photoshop out there
  8. Well, if Brian and Craig have any say I think the rawk classics would win every time ;D
  9. I think the only question is can Air Guitar beat the reigning champion Bond*age? I'd say it's pretty close right now...
  10. I'll vote for you just for that ;D
  11. Remember, Air Guitar is spelt "Elizium" on the nomination forms It's the only true alternative club out there
  12. The only worry I have with local bands expecting fair payment is what they base 'fair' on ;D Yeah, for a venue making a decent amount through the till on drinks and for a band playing an extended set then they definately should be paid well for their effort - A 2 hour stint is no mean feat. I come from a promoters angle, and we've often gone out of pocket to make sure local support acts get paid. I definately agree that if someone makes the effort, then they should be rewarded for their efforts. I just wanted to make sure people thought about the source of their money too, so that they weren't unrealistic in expecting a promoter to be wading in cash
  13. Of course this doesn't take into consideration that the majority of gigs in Aberdeen aren't organised by the venue themselves, but external promoters or the bands themselves. In this situation the only consideration is the money coming in through the door, which the venue may be taking a cut of, plus how much equipment hire etc is costing the promoter. I appreciate what you're trying to say, but it should be acknowledged that your example is pretty much limited to a direct venue/artist agreement.
  14. SDM seems to be down on the 22nd, from the instructions I got for the listings from Sharon. Apparently Clive Ravensby is playing? The 15th is the Shuriken gig.
  15. God help those poor souls that get their Monday's confused
  16. Aye, I know it's all in the name of advertising I just think there's better ways to advertise a night than fill a forum full of playlists - Your website does a perfectly good job of cataloguing the night so maybe it's more worthwhile advertising the presence of the website and club in one high profile post than blasting a forum full of repetitive lists?
  17. Alternatively a link to the Air Guitar website would have sufficed, seeing as all the playlists are on there. Looks like a whole heap of spam otherwise.
  18. I've been dreaming of this moment since the first chill-out room
  19. I still think if it was someone in Burberry it'd be a "malicious attack from a ned!", despite a warning on the cage or not. I also personally think that 'ned' has become the equivalent of being a 'motherfucker'. I've heard people moan about being pushed over by a ned on the dancefloor when it was some over-enthusiastic prick in a Metallica t-shirt. Maybe there is a tolerance issue here, too.
  20. This is probably not the best example, seeing as your mate's mate got his lip bust presumably by one of the Moshulu regulars. I'd be pissed off about that no matter what clothing I was wearing.
  21. Yeah, and you know the bitter stories you hear about such places and dress codes - I'd hate for Moshulu to fall into that trap. Surely just a common sense right of refusal should be in play to keep trouble makers out? I haven't observed any problems in Moshulu, or have there been some major fights of late?
