  1. One week to go, then it's: MOTORMARK + PINEY GIR and The Videos! AT Dr Drakes, Aberdeen - FRIDAY the 21st of JANUARY - Eight pm till god-knows-when - 4 If you don't know by now, MOTORMARK are a boy-girl electropunk combo who just make you want to go beat up a Casio. Their second album was recently released on Alec Empire's legendary Digital Hardcore Records label, but anyone who's more familiar with their Popchild release can be assured the sound just keeps getting better and their live shows more incendiary. PINEY GIR is a new treat to Aberdeen, playing her first gig up here ever! She's the toast of the underground ecclectic indie scene in London, with her tip-top synthpop swagger through every genre imaginable. From crooning swing songs to full-on Peaches style electronic sleaze, she's a sweet'n'sassy slice of American pie who's bound to inspire a lot of school boy crushes in the crowd. We're so taken with Piney and so sure you'll love her too that we've flown her and her band up from London for two exclusive Scottish shows. THE VIDEOS shouldn't need any introduction around these places, filthy electrodiscoglamrock'n'rollers that they are. Marvellous. Doors from 8pm, bands probably on around back of 9, back of 10 and back of 11.
  2. It's a surprisingly common request in the Friday night chill-out room.
  3. No promises, but we're aiming to have Piney Gir on back of 10 - Kef gigs are usually done by then, aren't they?
  4. I don't agree, I think it would be more fitting if a contemporary artist got the 1000th number one and not a wide-spread reissue campaign. Elvis was a phenomenal artist of his time who, whilst alive, got to number one a record number of times. I just don't see the relevence of a reissue campaign topping what are supposed to be charts indicative of current popular music. Scanning the last 999 number ones shows the transitional fads and phases that pop music has gone through in the last 50 odd years, I can't help but feel Elvis at 1000 proves nothing.
  5. I think it would be better for the 1000th Number 1 to represent what was currently popular rather than an undoubtedly talented bloke, but ultimately a dead one. Dead for 27 years. Where's the relevence to the 1000th number 1 in that?
  6. Heed this man, folks! Not long to go, Friday the 21st of Jan! 4! Dr Drakes! Doors at 8pm!
  7. Was at Dr Drakes from around 11:30 onwards and had a great time, good to see so many friendly places there! The free booze was much appreciated, and the sausage rolls - One of the best New Year's I've had and an excellent DJ set from Andy Bass!
  8. www.scan.co.uk is a good site to check for prices.
  9. Tis a marvellous peice of CD based entertainment, I'm so smitten with it that I have to beg, Bri, for a copy of volume 1 which I don't own. And yeah, The Cuts song is probably my favourite too, but it's all of such high quality it's a bit like the school sports day - everyone wins a prize, even the kid that eats soap.
  10. Blanche - If We Can't Trust The Doctors
  11. I've no idea, but I had forgotten all about Dreadzone until you mentioned them.
  12. They've got a second date in Edinburgh, Monday 6th of Feb. Tickets still available from Ticketzone.
  13. Whee, it's my work's christmas thing that day so hopefully I'll be along. No doubt I'll be drunk, but I'll endeavour to bring some of the braver members of my work along. Muhahaha.
  14. Yeah, enjoy ya bastards It's my work's christmas party that day, and I've already shelled out 25 quid on the thing.
  15. We'll schedule in an Elizium Maxi-only night for you next time he's in Aberdeen.
  16. I've got a 30 gig Creative Zen Xtra, and I love it to bits. I was tempted for ages by an iPod, but after playing with a friends and then comparing it to my flatmates Zen, I went with Creative. Sure, it's not as pretty, but it sits in my pocket all the time so who's to care or know? The price was the major sway for me, I paid 155 for a 30 gig from www.scan.co.uk I wouldn't know about the file part of your question, I assume it's easy enough to convert from wma to mp3. Can you use the iPod as a portable hard drive for any file type other than music, that is? If you're going for the newer Zen Touch model, I'd go with that over the iPod personally.
  17. I'd add Nan Turner from Schwervon! as another example of a female drummer with style. Another addition would be Rachel from The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, although she is lacking on the technical skill. Still, seeing as she's only nine I'm sure she'll improve.
  18. Perhaps you'd prefer Gothika, which runs in the backroom of Moshulu every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month.
  19. Saw the Aphrodisiacs in St Andrews last night and they were sounding pretty damn amazing, so should be a great night at Drakes!
  20. I beg to differ, of course, or I wouldn't have asked 'em on the bill - They've played with Piney Gir (as the Real Shocks) before and have a couple of Motormark fans in the band, so aside from the complimentatry music stylee they are a great match for the night. Still, can never get a full line up that's everyone's cup'o'tea, but I do believe this is a good 'un. And I do know what you look like, Mr. Psydoll... It's a fair race to stroke face.
  21. Motormark play Leeds on the 15th of January... It's kinda closer to Durham for you I guess Does this mean you'll be in Aberdeen at the end of January? We should do that drinking thing again, now we know where all the cool kids go.
