ca_gere
I only had tofu for the first time a couple months ago. Had the texture I always imagined it would. Not for me.... Says the guy who had "Quorn Swedish Style 'meat' balls" for dinner last night. You have to cook it right. If I'm making a curry I'll cut it into cubes then bake it on a low temp for a good while till it gets a nice crust, then I'll throw it in the curry for a bit till it rehydrates a bit without losing the crust. Then it has the chewier meat texture without being crumbly or slimey.
Chris
I've had mixed results with tofu. In a stir fry or curry it's fucking great. However, put a stick through it and grill it on a BBQ like a kebab and it just falls off into the fiery depths. Most disappointing.
ca_gere
Aye, it leaves a lot to be desired in the structural integrity department at times.
Paranoid Android
I'll throw my hat into the chickpea curry hat but I don't really cook much meat at home so if I make a curry it will almost always be a veggie one.

Skubbs
Look up clean eating receipes on pinterest, most are vegan and are really simple recipes - there was an ace one for wee almond and oatmeal cookies as a snack, although it did have honey in it... they were really quick to make, and a great snack. Some of the salad options look delicious, I'm just a fussy bitch so haven't tried many yet.
Gladstone
So last night, we happened to go to the Holiday Inn at Westhill for our supper on the way home. For the first time in my life, I avoided all meat on the menu and had their 5 bean burger. It was really affa fine and I didn't walk away from the table feeling as if I'd ingested a basketball. kirsten
I've just discovered the delights of beanburgers in the last year or so. It's ace to finally be able to order a burger somewhere like a real human being. Falafel burgers too, oh my.

Chris
The Chinese supermarket is ace. Massive bottles of Sriracha sauce. Go at lunchtime and nip next door to the Manchurian for some dim sum. It's fucking awesome.
girl anachronism
might have to check this out, my other half is veggie so alot of what i eat is also veggie. and ive heard good things about the chinese supermarket, hoping you mean the one on powis? The very same. It's the bags of fried tofu that are great. It doesn't crumble or fall apart, the stuff most tofu haterz haven't tried! Really cheap veg, rice and sauce too. scottyboy
Tofu tastes of nothing and has the texture of nothing. What it is good for, though, is sitting in soup and stews and absorbing all the flavour.
