PS. Michael Owen

He can fuck off and sign for Bolton already.

Liverpool on Sunday. Most of our fans are full of doom and gloom but I say fuck it; put Stevie Harper up front in full goalie gear. Whenever we get the ball we should hoof it out for a throw, can't see them getting anywhere if we do that for 85 minutes. Then BAM! We play it through to Harper when they least expect it, takes it round Reina and slams it into the empty net.

Flawless plan.

How minging was Barca/Chelsea last night? I think Hiddink was spot-on as far as tactics go, but playing a ten man defence does not make for pretty football. Oh, and Drogba is still a massive cunt.

Was at St. James' on Monday night. Those useless bastard players do not deserve half of the magnificent support that they get on matchday. They got wired-in for the first time in months, but Michael Owen missed ANOTHER total sitter and our lack of passing and movement up front was absolutely revolting.

We're probably going down and it's nothing less than what we deserve. Just hope JFK doesn't end up coming back...

chelsea were camped so far in the barca half i thought they were going to start a bar-b-que! i thought it was an interesting game but after the chelsea v liverpool antics i think we all expected a game with a little more excitement! i still fancy barca to sneak it as they can score goals and will get chances at stamford bridge.

newcastle's only hope is the appaling form of hull. shearer evidently is not the messiah. if they'd have kept keegan i really dont think they'd be in the shite they are in. as has been said before maybe a season visiting the likes of petercuntingboro and doncaster might do them the world of good and give them the kick up the ass the club really needs.

arsenal v man u tonight, i'll stick me neck out and predict a 1-1 draw!

Good to see that the Old Firm 'fluffers' at the tabloids are making a big deal out of nothing again...

Boot boy | The Sun |Home Scotland|Scottish Sport|SPL

The tackle they (and that ugly sod Mendes) are moaning about is pictured in the article, and clearly shows that Haining even got the ball!!

Kenny Miller said in his post-match interview that Haining's tackle was just unlucky.

I fucking hate The Sun.

i remember when i went to see caley against county in a pre-season friendly in DINGwall a couple of years back and the banter from caley fans on the train from inverness to DINGwall was magnificent. just wish i could remember most of the songs about county players at the time, there were some crackers, mainly aimed at mr bullock! i'm sure ross can enlighten me though :D

Aye the faster he leaves the better. He was dreadful on Monday night. Definately looking forward to the Middlesbrough game now. Just got to hope Hull keep losing. I reckon if Newcastle win that game they'll get out, lose that and it's curtains. Most likely it'll be another draw.

Hull's form could be Newcastle's safety net in the run in, they just don't look like winning any of their matches at the moment. If Newcastle can get two home wins against Middlesboro and Fulham they should just be able to sneak into 17th and stay up. Blackburn should be safe enough now with a 6 point cushion but Sunderland really need to stick another few points in the bag before they can stop worrying.

The thing is though, and whilst I agree with you mostly, Chelsea still stopped Barca from playing their best football, and even when Chelsea didn't have everyone behind the ball, Barca were still unable to penetrate as well as everyone expected. Barca, whilst looking dangerously confident with possession, they need to take a few more options on board as waiting for a throughball to come is a risky tactic. English sides employ a much tighter offside trap that La Liga defenses it seems. They really just need to stop fannying about around the box and cross it in. Henry is lanky and Eto'o can leap. Cech gets rattled by crosses these days and Chelsea don't have height in abundence in the back four. Knock it in! If it's punched away, there's plenty of folk in the midfield who can welly it!

The Stamford Bridge playing surface is much narrower than the Nou Camp, and that could possibly affect Barca's playing style of knocking it from flank to flank across the face of the penalty box, and the overlapping of the wingers and fullbacks. Because of this, I don't see Chelsea sitting back. Hiddink was very defensively minded last night, but I don't think he'll do that again. It could well be a shitty game, but a flukey goal and a 1-0 win for Chelsea seems very possible. Alot like last year at Old Trafford. Ginger scored a belter, and an unfit Messi tried his best at getting through the team bus.

It seems to happen in Europe though. Playing styles cancelling each other out. Bayner Munich's back four committed themselves far too easily and far too early in the first leg. Premier League sides just don't seem to do that, and Barca really thrive on it.

Oh yeah like i said in a post before, hiddink got his tactics spot on in terms of stopping barca but it didnt make for good viewing.

I just dont see how chelsea will be able to open up and play a more attacking game, if they leave any holes barca will get through them and losing a goal at home would be a disaster for them. It just annoys me that a team that has spent hundreds of millions over the past few years cannot do more than play a 90's italian style in europe, the last round was a fluke with them and liverpool but 95% of chelsea's games in the champs league are like last night. The real annoyance about it is lampard is one of the best in the world at bombing forward, Drogba on his day is unstoppable, Anelka def has the quality if not the motivation, so why they dont try and use these players more to their strength is frustrating. I wonder if hiddink will sub their most attacking midfield player for a defender again at stamford bridge.

I hope Hull don't go down. It'd be nice for the league if only 1 of the promoted teams went back to the Championship.

It'll be daft if Newcastle drop. They've got great players that just aren't turning up. I wonder how many of them will stay. I bet Given is glad he left.

Coloccini, Enrique, Nolan, Cacapa, Martins, Owen, Duff, Bassong, Smith, Jonas, Xisco, Geremi, Beye, Viduka. All of them would be nailed-on to leave, I reckon.

For all his loyalty and bravado, I would like to think that Steven Taylor would stay although I somehow doubt it. Maybe Joey Barton would like a season or two away from the limelight too, although he is far too good a player to be slumming it in the Championship.

Our best XI would look something like this:-

Harper

R. Taylor - Edgar - Kadar - Tozer

LuaLua - Butt - Guthrie - Lovenkrands

Stroller - Carroll

It's not total dogshite but that defence makes me cry. I figure we'll probably have a mass exodus even if we do stay up, and we'll probably go down next season if we stay up this year.

If we go down we need to make some smart, low cost signings while bringing through some youth players. It'll be a financial disaster if we don't. I fancy Carroll, Guthrie, Lovenkrands, Butt and R. Taylor to do the business in the Championship and LuaLua and Kadar (before he broke his leg) have looked like decent youngsters whenever I've seen them, but they don't have much experience.

The fact that we're in this position is completely ridiculous. On Monday we put out a team of 11 players with 156 international caps between them for fuck's sake. Just goes to show what an absolute mess Ashley and co. have made of running this club since the takeover. To be fair to them, we've been on the slide since Sir Bobby was punted, but at least Souness and Roeder - despite all their obvious flaws - had the club stabilised.

Still, should be a fucking cracking game of FM next season, eh?

Do you actually rate lovenkrands?

Do you actually rate lovenkrands?

Have you seen him play since he joined us? He's not a fantastic player by any stretch of the imagination but he's fast, has a decent shot on him and looks like he gives a shit (which immediately elevates him above Damien Duff and co.). He's scored a couple of goals and generally done everything that could have been asked of him.

I wouldn't want to keep him if we're still in the Premiership, but nobody can say that he hasn't been a decent signing.

He could very well be one of these players that only plays well when he's got something to prove, to be honest. I've heard that he was absolute bobbins in Germany (and he was pretty shite in his latter days at Rangers too), but he seems to enjoy taking players on and knows how to use his pace, which is something that Damien Duff is sorely lacking. For that reason alone I think he'd be a good Championship winger or impact striker.

Very much in agreement. I was wetting my pants with excitement over how good the game could/should have been, but I was extremely let down. It should have been a classic. Chelsea should have bombed forward for an away goal. They've got poachers in Drogba and Anelka, and players who can welly the ball in from outside the box, and they are much taller than Barca. If they lobbed in a few crosses, some of them just MUST have hit the target.

the last round was a fluke

You reckon? It was bad defending all round, but I thought Chelsea were brilliant going forward in both legs. They really stunned Liverpool on their own soil, and despite Liverpool impressively fighting back at Stamford Bridge, attacking-wise I think they were outclassed, even though the score on the night was even. probably due to it looking like both teams were playing 2-4-4 formations.

Still. I'm glad Liverpool didn't go through, so Sky Sports News can stop calling the Champions League Rafa's "specialist subject". Fuck off. You've won it once, and you've just been knocked out in the quarters you raging lunatic.

See the Dons have raised ticket prices again next season. Prices for 2009-10:

Main Stand - 27

RD Stand - 22

South stand - 22

Plus an extra pound if it's against Rangers or Celtic

That's starting to edge towards extortionate. I know it's only a pound raise from last season, but when you think about it, it's still 22 to watch one fucking match!

Yeah i was the same, plus it was on normal tv, i should have known it would be a rubbish game!!! Your right Chelsea could have taken the risk but i guess hiddink just wanted to frustrate them then try and go at them at home. I still think tho if chelsea do open up barca will pick them appart, the movement and ablility of Xavi and Iniesta is amazing and they could pick appart any defense if they find a gap.

I only mean in terms of we dont get many games like that in the champs league anymore, most teams play far tighter at the back and dont give so many goals. I would love more games like that as im sure most football fans would, as long as liverpool end up on the beaten side everytime. :)
