  1. bit late to this party as not been here a few days but will take them socceroos of the land down under if they're still available! Can't wait, gutted am not going as my girlfriend is Brazilian but it was just not possible to get out there at this time so will be my usual armchair supporter self! I do think Brazil are going to deliver on home soil unless they self-explode under waves of expectation. England pens as usual. Hardly sticking me neck out here I know!
  2. must be the end of the road for this thread now, think the season is just about done and dusted apart from the football league play offs!
  3. Nope! A fitting end to a quite astonishing season for Cambridge United!
  4. off to the conference play off final against Garesheed today, nervous? check excited? a little. Bloody hell come this evening we could finally be back in the promised land of the football league... or not. That's football ha ha! Enjoyed the cup final yesterday, Hull scored too early I think but they gave it a good shot. My latest pathetic omen for today's match is the season Cambridge were relegated from the football league was the last time Arsenal won a trophy before yesterday. Coat got!
  5. I agree AVB was sacked after the tanking by Liverpool, had he stayed would probably have taken Spurs to around where they finished with Sherwood I think. But given the amount they spent in the summer, a top four finish was a must I suppose.
  6. Apart from a few tankings, Sherwood did not a bad a job at Spurs. It was always gonna be difficult after selling Bale and AVB just signed a bunch of players willy nilly. I liked Sherwood but the Spurs job probably too big for him at this stage. Bit of a poisoned challis anyway, fuck knows how many managers they have got through under Levy. Probably should have stuck with 'arry. Sure some European journeyman type chap will get the gig and last the usual 18 months!
  7. There is always a chance Brazil might collapse under the weight of sheer expectation but they coped with the dress rehearsal of the confederations cup rather well. My bird is Brazilian so I want them to do well.
  8. Problem with England is the moment they show any potential then they always find a way of shooting themselves in the foot. Not always the teams fault (the hand of god for example) but something will happen that turns a game. it's almost hilarious at times. But this world cup I can see England limping out at the group stage - talksport battering on about it for a week - then we can all move on and enjoy the rest of the tournament. I know its not exactly sticking your neck out predictions wise but I really feel Brazil are going to deliver on home soil. With Big Phil at the helm what could possibly go wrong? Meanwhile back to domestic matters, Greg Dyke is going to be at the conference play-off final on Sunday and some kind of protest about the absurd league 3 proposal is beginning to take shape. Which I think is probably going to be in the form of a few protest banners ha ha!
  9. I think this a good point, people like Barlow pay accountants to sort out their taxes and the accountant does whatever he does to get him the best deal. Barlow probably had no idea (as I am sure Jimmy Carr didn't either) that it was a covered-up tax avoidance scam. Fuck if I was earning that kind of money then I would be paying for a great accountant to sort out that side of things for me!!! I think too much is being made of this, bloody hell how many huge multi million pound earning companies are deliberately avoiding corporation tax? And would still be getting away with it if they hadn't been caught? Again though they were not breaking the law so you need to look at the bigger picture here. Surely something needs to be done regarding the law???? All makes a mockery of how pathetic it is that this government chase after and lynch vulnerable people such as the disabled and job seekers (most of whom are actually genuine and not scroungers) to save a few quid.
  10. Fair play to Woy for picking a largely inexperienced squad but would have taken Cole myself, can still cut it on the big stage. Not expecting great things from England and they'll do well to get out the group stage. A cagey 0-0 against Italy before Suarez single-handily beats them on his own before a sneaky 1-0 against Costa Rica which probably won't matter. I think the press will give them a bit of slack as no-one apart from possibly Adrian Durham will be expecting anything. Would have taken Ruddy (ok a little biased as he used to play for Cambridge!) ahead of either Forster or Foster. 27 million for Luke Shaw, understandable but crazy money. That's the way it is for English players which is why a lot of clubs do look elsewhere as they get much better value for money. I have no doubts Shaw is going to be a world class player though but that price tag puts massive pressure on his shoulders. Southampton will have money to burn this summer but they need to spend wisely. Depends if the manager sticks around - another one linked with the Spurs job but who isn't these days... oh David Moyes! Speaking of whom, absolutely convinced he will be back in the EPL next season at a level more suitable for his managerial talents. Again too much chopping and changing of managers for me but that's the nature of the modern game. I think it has been a very good season in the EPL, I guess it was too much to expect a really exciting last day of the season but good the title went to the last day. Think Liverpool might have blown their chance to be champions for a while yet - keeping Suarez is naturally essential and they need to sort out that leaky defence. City are going to be the ones to beat again but again its hard to call. Still let's enjoy the world cup before worrying about next season!
  11. well the damp squib that is last day of the Prem League season has really pissed on the media's bonfire. Might be a little bit of excitement should City lose an early goal and get nervous though. And the relegation places practically sealed barring Norwich breaking all records! Bloody hell still a week to go till our showdown for promotion to the promised land of damp midweek Johnstone Paint Trophy ties away at the likes of Chesterfield. Going agonizingly slowly!
  12. Can't wait and after today's magnificent performance am quietly but not over confident!
  13. A mixture of nervousness and excitement as Cambridge head into todays Skrill Premier play off semi final 2nd leg against FC Halifax with a slight 1-0 deficit to overturn. Not in the best of form - five straight defeats on the bounce, not a single goal scored. So after a marvellous season, finishing 2nd in the league and winning the FA Trophy, there is a sense of deflation kicking in. Need a massive effort to make a return trip to Wembley in a couple of weeks!
  14. I am gutted Hoskins has died as he was in my top five favourite actors ever but then I took some slight solace from the fact he is indeed on my death list!
  15. you want him sacked I take it?
  16. That Rooney deal is great for Rooney he has nothing to prove at club level and don't blame him for signing such a deal
  17. The late Sir Tom brings me my first points of the new campaign!
  18. top of league two with a game in hand half way through the season, new tactic working a treat so far and a nice home money spinning FA Cup third round tie at home to West Ham to come.
  19. ah promotion with two games to spare and yes Pressley is a massive prick, was glad to put him in his place!!!!
  20. yeah doing alright with my new tactic, top of the conference five points clear with 7 games to go and got two games in hand... mine to lose now! lost just four league games all season, been doing the press conferences and most the team talks myself as my assistant was making a bit of an ass of them I felt, have found the mind games on FM14 really good, sometimes they work, sometimes not, fucked it up in the FA Trophy final and lost! But got the better of Luton manager (my nearest rivals just like in real life!) Steven Pressley and beat them away. He didn't like that up him! Hopefully get promotion this afternoon!
  21. the problem with Scottish football is they need a workable Rangers to at least give some competition to Celtic, utterly daft decision to demote the huns in the first place! The SPL is now a complete farce although I do find it amusing when Celtic fan friends of mine post on Facebook what a great achievement winning the SPL is.... no its not with your squad of English premier and championship rejects and with no competition it is actually a piece of piss!
  22. found another tactic which is working a treat so far, seven points clear in the conference over half way through the season, whether we can sustain this good form till the end of the season remains to be seen mind!
  23. yeah gutted Trigger has gone and gutted he wasn't on me list!
  24. hmm after that last post went on the most horrendous run of form, 10 without a win then got a win against woking then hauled into the chairmans office again after a defeat by Halifax, said the wrong things to him and was sacked.... I save weekly so went back and beat Woking again and this time got a draw against Halifax but am under severe pressure all the time now as just above relegation zone. Its so frustrating I have the better of many games but scoring since i went defensive is a major issue... dunno gonna try keep this save going get to the end of the season if I can and really put some thought into it, think I need to change this system, got a feeling it was designed for top class teams with world class players not conference donkeys and journeymen!!!!
  25. I changed my tactic from attacking to defensive and am doing a little better in the league slowly drifting into mid table, its a real learning curve, the board are off my back for the time being and finally got that elusive away win a 6-1 trouncing of high flying Aldershot, just need to get through the season and try not to get dragged back into a relegation dog fight.
