  1. Happy that BT Sport are covering Cambridge United's first game of the season at home to Halifax on Sunday Aug 11th, reckon we might get a decent TV audience. I'll be there full of the usual deluded optimism which naturally goes with the opening match!
  2. I looked at my list and some poor choices I feel, only one I am confident of is Mandela who I think you have.... but if Pete Doherty could do us all a favour and take an OD then I would be really confident as he's young and is my joker. We'll see a lot to play for!!!
  3. Well obviously I am delighted to be in contention for the title but at this stage of the season nothing is one. Team Cynic will fight all the way and his summer signings have really strengthened his squad.
  4. think we need the latest table when you get chance!
  5. Much to my surprise when I went over my bird's place yesterday she had bought an X Box for her daughter from Cash Converters, with my PS3 long gone I was almost on the verge of buying a second hand one just for GTA 5 so have pre ordered the new game and watched the trailer and my gosh it looks fucking awesome, have been missing GTA 4 since I got rid of the PS so have ordered a second hand copy for the X Box to get back into GTA mode lol!
  6. Anna Wing aka Lou Beale has gone and is on my list, with Mandela surely not gonna last the year this is looking a prosperous season for Team Franklin! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23268512
  7. Some more points on the board for me due to the passing of the Nolan....
  8. The Joe Kinnear thing is so hilarious, the guy is an absolute buffoon, never a dull moment with Newcastle eh?
  9. Steve McClaren is in the frame for the Wigan job wonder if he'll adopt a Northern accent? Confederations Cup kicks off at the weekend, am looking forward to it I think its an excellent warm up tournament for the world cup proper! Plus England aren't in it (and are more than likely not to be in it for the foreseeable future) so it will be quite bearable....
  10. My FM adventure is continuing in Brazil with Athletico Minero, three seasons finished 3rd, 3rd and 2nd, won the Brazilian Cup and the state championship all three seasons (which is a piece of piss admittedly), almost impossible to dislodge Corinthians who have won the league by 20 odd points every season I been there but I like a challenge. Got an exciting young team and brilliant youth system but the season length is absolutely nuts, everything is two leagues and some seasons have played in both Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamerica! Usually have a decent run in both, made the final of Libertadores one season but usually fall short at quarters or semi.
  11. Bloody hell that was gritty from England last night against Brazil, in reality the South Americans should have been 5 up at half time! I quite like the Confederations Cup, its a nice warm up for the forthcoming World Cup and all games are live on the BBC so at least some football to watch over the summer.
  12. down at old the kings of toilet football Cambridge United, we have been building for the new season, our chairman says it could be our year... actually it could have been our year any year since we were dumped in this hellhole back in 2005... as a long suffering supporter I have seen it all before, since our season ended at the end of April we have signed half or dozen or so players who still sing from the same old tired and tested hymn sheet 'I joined because they are a big team with great support'... i got me season ticket in place i look forward to losing the will to live again but on the other hand i fucking love my football club and i will support them till I die!
  13. England v Ireland tonight, can't believe its 18 years since the last time they played each other, then England off for a nice little post season jolly to Brazil. Both games to be ruined by ITV but will watch anyways. This season just seems to be going on forever!!!!
  14. Cambridge United have already signed half a dozen players and sorted out some pre season fixtures which go like this.... Sat 13th July - St Neots away Tues 16th July - Royston away Weds 17th July - Corby away Sat 27th July - Sutton united away Sat 27th July - St Ives away (presumably a United XI) Weds 31st July - Stamford away Sat 3rd August - Borehamwood away Cor blimey some football giants in there! Confederations Cup final is on 1st July, the moment the final whistle sounds the new season thread should start I suggest! Glad to see the back of Pulis, horrible man by all accounts and that baseball cap was beyond annoying but Mark Hughes??? Oh dear it will be a disaster I think!
  15. Christ on a bike, Talksport are hamming up the last day of the prem league season as 'Judgement Sunday' what the fuck? I fail to remember a more duller last set of fixtures, the relegation places have already been sorted Man Poo won the league ages ago and Citeh are comfortably in second. Moyes and Purple Face have already had their home send offs and its old news in any case, so that just leaves that prestigious champions league spots to sort out which is almost done and dusted anyways as all Arsenal have to do is beat an already on their holidays Newcastle to secure qualification. And what the fuck is this reference to a 'judgement' in any case. Fucking media twats do my nut in hamming up the impossible!
  16. Taxi for Mancini by all accounts. The more I think about the more I can see why Fergie bailed out now, makes sense, of course he wanted to go out on a high and by retaining the Premier League title is a good way to bow out. Think its going to be even tougher to win next season Man City will spend shit loads and if Jose goes back to Chelsea then he will have a few quid to spend an all. Hope Moyes is given some proper time to bed in, he ticks all the right boxes for the gig (shrew in transfer market, a fondness for kids) but naturally his lack of trophies and European experience go against him also he is unproven in dealing with prima donna namby pamby footballers but good luck to him. He used to play for Cambridge so have a soft spot for him!
  17. I also got Norwich going down on GD
  18. if its Moyes (an ex Cambridge United player lol) then good luck to him, how much time will he be given though, at least one trophy next season is a must and Moyes never won a trophy at Everton. Can he handle the step up in class? Can he handle a better class of player and fan demands? Hope he is at least given some time. Personally I can't help thinking I can see Man Utd going slowly into decline like when Sir Matt Busby stepped down....
  19. Oh and Peterborough got relegated which pleased me immensely!!!!
  20. This has got nothing to do with this season but its looking increasingly likely I will be at the World Cup next year. Am a tad excited....
  21. I look forward to seeing Mr Davids playing at the hallowed turf of the Abbey Stadium next season, unless he's been sacked by the time they visit us of course!
  22. Crikey no pissing about at Cambridge - six players released already!!!! I look forward to seeing what cheap adequate replacements the manager manages to persuade to join my fledging mid table side! In other news this is pretty cool - Crewe set to name an entire team of players who came through their academy for their final league match of the season! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22278754
  23. yeah hotmail hacking can't access my account and this site wouldn't let me log in with my old username and password so just logged in via facebook. It's well known round our parts we rejected Beardsley as a youngster! Oops! A few Southern based (I assume) Geordie supporters in attendance last night, most hilarious was one who started playing the harmonica! A good game now I can put football to bed for a while and find my rose-tinted spectacles!!!
  24. Saw Peter Beardsley playing in a Cambridge United shirt tonight!!!!!! We played a centenary friendly against a bunch of Newcastle academy kids tonight actually outplayed them but lost 2-1, Beardsley made a cameo for both sides he hardly got a touch of the ball though! So glad this season is finished one of ultimate disappointment, even more than usual and that's flipping saying something! Roll on next season!
