  1. well the toon army had that heavy defeat, surely time to relieve Pardew of his duties?
  2. Sir Donald Sinden as well, a triple whammy yesterday. Loved Never The Twain! And the reverend Paisley was on my list!!!
  3. oh doing considerably better than what I thought! Forgot about Eli Wallach admittedly.
  4. Massive game tonight - Newport County vs Cambridge United... still 0-0
  5. After a ten year absence was bed wettingly excited about Cambridge competing in the football league trophy only to be given the shittiest tie we could have got - away at Crawley Town - resulting in a predictable 2-0 defeat so we can now concentrate on the league!
  6. Sure have had him in the past but not this year, having a terrible season, just been given the dreaded vote of confidence by the chairman.... I blame the Europa League campaign! And injuries and suspensions of course!
  7. Welcome to the Premier League Mr Van Gaal! Kinda ironic Moyes humped Swansea 4-1 in his first Prem League game in charge but its a marathon not a sprint I suppose!
  8. An absolutely spiffing affair at the Abbey Stadium this afternoon, a more than deserved 1-0 win against Plymouth, crowd of 6000 with a 1000 away fans, lovely to see the south stand so full for a league match. We should have won by more, gonna enjoy this league 2 lark I think - next fixtures away at Birmingham in the league cup then away to Portsmouth in the league... pinch me I am dreaming!
  9. Football league starts Saturday and cannot wait for Cambridge's home opener against Plymouth. After nine years in the hellhole of the conference I still can hardly believe we're back in the football league. Shame we lost arguably our best player - Luke Berry - to that football giant Barnsley but impressed with the summer signings. Thankfully we have kept the majority of last season's squad who did so well so a season of mid table consolidation is on the cards I think.
  10. Former radio 1 DJ and TV presenter Mike Smith has gone... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-28623367
  11. read that Balotelli is close to signing for Arsenal but that rumour has been doing the rounds for a bit now.
  12. Owen talks a lot of shit, I think Liverpool might struggle to break the top four this season, Suarez - like him or hate him - is a massive loss for them and a number of 15-20 million quid players is not necessarily going to fix the problem. And then there is the scouse pressure which will befall upon the team, they will expect them to be challenging now that Rodgers has raised the scouse goalposts and of course they have the rigours of regular European football as well. Meanwhile Man Utd will be a force, I like Van Gaal, a proven winner, he will take no shit - already rumours of up to 10 dead wood players leaving the club. He said in the press conference he's not in it to finish 4th but 1st. The players took the piss last season under Moyes, thinking they were better than him but all that will change under Van Gaal I think.
  13. right that's the world cup done and dusted back to domestic duties! Espanyol and Shaktar Donesk are coming to the Abbey Stadium at the weekend in the prestigious Absolute Sports Travel Cup!
  14. Yeah that's the same for me - I remember being allowed to stay up and watch the 78 final, it was mental - the Argies on home soil against the Dutch winning 3-1. With less media channels and no internet and very few foreign players in the English game the world cup was really mysterious! As I recall did Spurs not sign Ardilles and Villa on the back of that world cup win? And it was a massive deal over here! I think 86 and 90 were my favourites because the media coverage of England wasn't as unbearable as it is now and England had a good team in both competitions and were desperately unlucky not to go further. 86 was my first drinking world cup, games kicked off at stupid o clock, my parents left me in charge of the house whilst they went on holiday so loads of my mates piled round! England need to beat Poland in their last group game to qualify and Linekar got a hat trick in the first half! It's been a very good world cup and Germany were worthy winners. I love the fact they built their own training ground and hotel before the tournament hiring local people and giving it to the people of Brazil. Plus they had a tough schedule playing in different climates, loads of the team got a flu bug but they still came through. Glad it didn't go to penalties and the winning goal was a more than worthy match winner.
  15. Apparently it was all Sir Mick Jagger's fault why Brazil were so bad on Tuesday evening since every team the ageing rock star has supported has got beat!
  16. Some absolute world class defending by both sides which is making this a most intriguing match. Penalties it is then! Rooting for the Dutch!
  17. to be fair Brazil looked fine until that first goal and once they conceded they just fell to bits. I would taken the experience of Ronaldinho, Robinho and Kaka, getting on I know but fuck me they couldn't have been any worse!# Time to change my avatar!
  18. oh dear ze Germans are outclassing Brazil without even breaking sweat!
  19. I thought it was a brilliant master stroke and apparently not planned at all! Looking forward to Fred bagging a hat trick against Ze Germans in a 4-3 thriller!
  20. The keeping substitution must have been pre planned but it was fun to watch anyway and Krul came good in the end. Exciting stuff so four of the bigguns in the semis, think its almost gone to seeding apart from Holland being there instead of Spain... correct me if I'm wrong. Thing is no team has been completely outstanding yet Brazil seem to get more criticism than the others. Never mind though Fred will come good against Ze Germans lol! Hope we get a derby in the final either Brazil v Argie or Holland v Germany!
  21. I don't get all this Brazil bashing - Colombia stuck in their fair share of robust challenges as well but the ref was pretty useless and should have taken control and started dishing cards out much earlier but barring the last ten minutes Brazil were the better side. I think the problem is the weight of expectation on Brazil and clearly the current squad is not as good as Brazil squads of years gone by. Am still convinced my hero Fred will come good! ITV coverage was dreadful even by their own disgusting usual standards. Wright, Hoddle and Dixon just slated Brazil off at any given opportunity and it seemed to be a Columbia love fest. Totally unprofessional. David Luiz's sublime free kick was a worthy winner. Now then split loyalties for the semi - cannot lose! German mother, Brazilian girlfriend! As for today's games would love to see the Belgians do them Argies!
  22. Had fun in Belgium Tuesday night when the match was on, Ghent was awash with football loving locals and we watched outside in lovely heat drinking fine Belgian beers and they partied all night, car horns were still honking at 4 AM!
  23. I shall be in Belgium for their second round tie against soccer ball hopefuls Team USA, looking forward to that! Milner is right, the rest may as well give that trophy to Fred and the lads now, actually Fred will start banging them in now to shut everyone up. No fucking game today, ridiculous! The two teams with the worst record should be having a match for a wooden spoon!
  24. my joker is Wilko Johnson, shouldn't he be dead by now???
