  1. The Euros was a real disappointment but hey ho club football is where its at anyway. I was shocked how low Scottish football status is by the clubs entering Europe at such an early stage! And as for Celtic bloody hell they bust me coupon! And Rodgers had the nerve to say the result wasn't "embarrassing". Oh dear should be comfy enough in the second leg mind. Another season languishing in mid table with early cup exits beckons for Cambridge United... I wouldn't expect anything else!
  2. yay points at last in this crazy year for celebrity deaths!
  3. So Paul Daniels has terminal cancer, didn't give him a timeline though. Not a single death for me yet this season and there has been flipping loads!
  4. After a couple of mid table Championship seasons with Cambridge, I decided to retreat to my villa in Spain for a few weeks and ticked the 'apply for managerial positions at higher reputation clubs' options. I'd hardly had the time to get a tan when the phone rang and I was hauled to Craven Cottage for an interview at Fulham. I never bothered to do any homework so just went in and answered their stupid questions, thinking I would never in a million years get the gig. So I trundled back to Spain to finish off the tan but once more it never had time to develop as the phone rang and they offered me the job. It was only when I arrived first day, I realized I had taken over a newly relegated club and this is a most refreshing challenge. This is a first for me in a long and varied career playing football manager. And a rather fun one so far. Every single fucking day I am getting players knocking on my door wanting to move to a bigger club. Fine I say so I offer them out for slightly over what their worth and managed to get rid of a few. However the one time I refused a paltry offer from the only slightly bigger and destined for a relegation dogfight in the Premier League next season Sunderland, the squad turned into a bunch of moaning minnies saying I was out of order for not letting the player go! I like the option where you tell them to go find a club themselves after you've offered them out for way over their asking price! Now the door is getting hammered down by might be good one day kids who have never been near the first team! Its hilarious. I got a transfer budget of 14 million and I am way under the wage budget as most the first team moaning minnies have gone and taken their over inflated salaries and egos with them. All this has happened over the course of about three weeks! Surely my season expectations would be challenge for automatic promotion? My players are on around 25-30 k a week whereas at Cambridge my top earner was on around 15k a week, my top earner who is 33 and a door knocker is about to leave! So that's another 35k a week off the wage budget!!! No my season expectation is finish mid table! We had a team meeting and I said I think we could challenge for the play-offs and most the squad agreed but a few thought I was being too ambitious! Signed a couple of players - the type I am looking for - mid 20's from prem league clubs with a point to prove by dropping down a division. Fulham have an excellent youth set up as well so this journey of my 2016 adventure I am looking forward to!
  5. Got Cambridge back into the championship by beating that football giant Rochdale in the play off final. Might be my tactic but I seem to get a heck of a lot of yellow and red cards this game. Also won the Johnstone Paint Trophy so at least next time I get an interview I won't be asked why I haven't won any trophies!
  6. Tell me about it, the gang I stand with at football who are fascinated by the celebrity death list thingy were informed that I had signed Lemmy on a pre-contract!
  7. fucking Lemmy! I was gonna put him on next years list!
  8. Been enjoying a rollercoaster ride on my Cambridge game... Season 1 - lost play off final Season 2 - Automatic Promotion to League One Season 3 - Won Play Off Final Promotion to Championship Season 4 - Relegated last day of the season - was doing really well till a 15 games without a win spell which I played on xmas day whilst drinking heavily so no idea where it went wrong but that's where I fucked it up! Season 5 - Nestling in the play offs after 12 games. Been close to getting the sack a couple of times - hauled in the office and had to beg for my job! Been head hunted a few times, went for interviews at Dundee Utd, Blackpool and Bolton but none of them offered me the gig!
  9. I think BR would have been sacked even if Liverpool had beaten Everton. He's been a dead man walking for weeks. Yes it does seem strange he wasn't sacked in the summer after falling short of expectation but as has been stated, the two main candidates weren't available. Given the money he has spent, he needed to hit the ground running this season and let's face facts, Liverpool have in general been pretty dire so far this season. He was still banging on about 'rebuilding' right up to the end. I'm not usually a fan of sacking managers so early in the season but will make an exception in this case. This transfer committee sounds like a load of old nonsense, I hate some of the modernism's in footy. The manager should have the final say on signing players and that is that. Don't think Rodgers really wanted to say that grumpy, cannot be assed tosser Balotelli but it got lumbered upon him! He is also a victim of his own success - season after last the title was there for the taking in their own hands and so scouse expectation was raised through the roof. Yes having Suarez contributed enormously to that success but he got the whole team playing good, attacking football. Then last season they seemed to lose the plot with uninspired signings (Ricky Lambert ha ha!) and patchy form. If he could have at least gone and won a trophy last season it might have bought him a little more time this season. Problem is these days Liverpool are closer to Spurs than the big Manchester clubs! BR will end up at a higher mid table club, probably Southampton ha ha!
  10. Mourinho was talking utter bollocks as usual post-match, no way was that a Chelsea penalty, Falcao went looking for it and the ref made a good call. Whilst the Saints had one clear cut penalty possibly two. They were worthy winners, the way Chelsea give the ball away is ridiculous. It looks like Advocaat is going to resign, the talk is Big Sam is going to come in now which would make sense, he will try and kick and hoof themselves. Quite a few Prem league managers could be out of a job soon! Defeat to Everton today and Rodgers will go I think.
  11. I was sure Healey was on my list, well he was at some point but no more, my disappointing season continues!
  12. You have to give McClaren credit where its due - he is quickly becoming even more incompetent and useless than John Carver!
  13. Playing in the Europa League is a hindrance to a lot of the mid table Premier League teams so it doesn't surprise me West Ham went out early, you can detect that's what Billic really wanted. Whilst I can understand the process of playing Thursday/Sunday is not ideal but surely its time to scale down the sheer size of the competition and the amount of games played. Its beyond ridiculous! As for relegation well did Hull not get knocked out at the similar stage last season by some Belgian giants and look what happened to them! Hard luck on Aberdeen though. At least Koeman is taking it seriously! First game of the season today (and the only day I am in the UK for my two week holiday from work so it was meant to be!) and Cambridge at home to Newport. We have been spending the Man Utd money well, a complete overhaul of the squad (11 new signings!) and a target of the play-offs at the very least. Should be a home banker today but we'll see! I use pre-seasons as a chance to watch cheap no pressure football and catch up with me mates who I stand with and have a peek at new signings. That for me is their purpose!
  14. Lots of celebs dying at the moment just not the right ones for me!

    Your current read?

I bought a copy of 'The Big Midweek' by former bass player of The Fall, Steve Hanley about his 17 years in the band. Its supposed to be for my forthcoming holiday but couldn't resist reading about the infamous on stage bust up in New York in 1998 when an onstage fight broke out and he finally left the band.
  16. Watched 'Ex Machina' over the weekend, best film I've seen in ages.
  17. Not nearly addicted to FM as I used to be, bought the game at Christmas and played a fair bit when on holiday in Brazil. Got Cambridge promoted after 2 seasons, then a season of consolidation before just missing out of the play offs in league one. So tendered my resignation as was looking for a new challenge. Paul Ince took over and got my beloved football team relegated at the first attempt! Brentford came calling next. In the championship, moved to a new 25000 all seater stadium. Expected play offs got them in the premier league at the first attempt! After a season of consolidation managed to bag a Europa League spot where I made the quarter finals. The amount of games took its toll on the team plus a run to the final of the league cup where I was dicked 4-0 by Man City. Finished 15th, lost the dressing room and league form was woeful at best so thought it was better to quit whilst ahead at the end of the season. Chucked my name about for any job going as running all the major leagues in Europe. Took a job at Villareal. Not much money, having to do an 'arry and wheel and deal in the transfer market. I kid you not I even had to sign a defender from Aberdeen! One win and a draw in my two games in charge.
  18. and Ron Moody - Fagin in the 1968 film version of Oliver, triple whammy today! I always thought about sticking in Christopher Lee but he was one of those people I admired so much I simply couldn't bring myself to add him.
  19. Luckily bar the odd away game its standing all the way for me at the toilet level of football I go and regularly watch!
  20. yeah I agree about the new Mad Max movie, a 2 hour rollercoaster ride! Went to see 'Tomorrowland' at the weekend - 6/10 not too bad but could have been better - nice CGI effects and Hugh Laurie as the villian were the plus points.
  21. euro qualifiers next week! and soon the europa league will start lol!
  22. Yeah I see your point on that one! And accusing Williamson of getting sent off deliberately. Ok you convinced me, he's a twat - a passionate twat
  23. As a person and back-room coach Carver seems a top-notch guy but as a manager - oh dear beyond dreadful. But you never know with mad Mike. If he is serious about Newcastle becoming some kind of force in English football then he needs to get Klopp at whatever cost and give him at least 500 million and let him get on with it. But knowing mental Mike as we all do he'll employ Carver or McClaren, give them 20 million tops in the transfer market and the squad will be flooded with yet more under average signings from the French League. The Liverpool job would appeal to Klopp I think should it become available.
  24. I see Ashley came out giving it some lip after the game... won't quit until Newcastle win a trophy or qualify for the champions league? (according to Mike Champions League qualification is the equivalent of a trophy!). He could be there for life methinks. But you know with a good manager and some serious investment Newcastle could be up there. Anyone else think Rodgers might go from lolpool. That was a ridiculous beating at Stoke. One good season, two average ones. He's spent over 200 million. Surely Klopp is being lined up for a Prem League job. Pleased for Norwich being a local team for me. And I never posted nearly as much this season as what I have before so the figures being down is all my fault!
